>The Bechdel Test, sometimes called the Mo Movie Measure or Bechdel Rule is a simple test which names the following three criteria: (1) it has to have at least two women in it, who (2) who talk to each other, about (3) something besides a man. This is a fairly well known test that highlights the issue of male-centric writing in media and is surprisingly effective in demonstrating how widespread gender inequality is, even today.
From the wikipedia page: >About half of all films meet these criteria, according to user-edited databases and the media industry press. The test is used as an indicator for the active presence of women in films and other fiction, and to call attention to gender inequality in fiction. Media industry studies indicate that films that pass the test financially outperform those that do not. >According to a 2014 study by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, in 120 films made worldwide from 2010 to 2013, only 31% of named characters were female, and 23% of the films had a female protagonist or co-protagonist. 7% of directors were women.[7] Another study looking at the 700 top‐grossing films from 2007 to 2014 found that only 30% of the speaking characters were female.[8] In a 2016 analysis of screenplays of 2,005 commercially successful films, Hanah Anderson and Matt Daniels found that in 82% of the films, men had two of the top three speaking roles, while a woman had the most dialogue in only 22% of films.[9] So, let's do a little test on Yea Forums and see how the results compare.
What was the last movie you watched and what, if any, rules does it satisfy for passing the Bechdel Test?
Failing the test can be arguable in determining whether a movie is guilty of gender inequality, or at least to a degree that most would find actually offensive.
>to a degree that most would find actually offensive most feminists maybe not every film has to be about what women talk about besides men
last movie i watched was near dark (1987), i think it has 2 women in it dunno if they talk to each other is that offensive then? the film was written and directed by a woman btw
I would love to make a movie that has an entirely male cast except for one random non sequitur scene of 2 women sitting there and one asks the other if they pass the Bechdel Test and the other says yes.

>women characters Is there a crusade against the word female going on right now?
Brayden Ramirez
The Bechdel Test is a joke, and I'm telling you that as a femanon. It doesn't actually measure anything female moviegoers care about. If a movie doesn't have romance or at least an attractive male lead, I probably don't give a shit about it. Plus, absolute garbage like Sex & the City passes the test. Last movie I watched was Polar and I don't think that passes but I only watched it to see Mads looking hot anyway.

>men create the world as we know it >invent film to record things on >invent movie and stories and structure >build theaters to show moving pictures >guys bring their gals on a date to the picture All movies should fail that. I don't find two chicks talking interesting, I'm the one buying two tickets to see it.
Jeremiah Smith
Nobody wants to watch women talk. Not even women
Andrew Morris
Why aren't women normal like us guys?
Jonathan Roberts
How would she know if a movie passes the test without seeing it?
Charles Kelly
This, trips confirm

A watched The Green Book yesterday just to check it out. Good movie, but it fails. Before that I watched The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which fails spectacularly. There was maybe one woman in it for about 3 seconds.
Aaron Lewis
she gets a male feminist ally to watch it for her and note whether it passes the test if he watches 50 movies in one year for her then she might touch it
Nathaniel Myers
Trannies started pushing "women" to replace "female" because the latter excludes them.
Gavin Perez
The only time two women should ever talk to each other in a movie is when they're about to eat each other's pussies.
Jordan Morris
So basically a movie in which women talk to each other about how they're nothing but useless drains on society would pass the Bechdel Test.
Landon Gutierrez
Avengers Infinity War.
I think it passes. The bald black one and the old Jewish one talk to each other as they slit up an alien
Caleb Gray
I always laugh thinking about how Pride and Prejudice fails this test.
Ryder Howard
guys, I hope I never see a movie that passes the bechdel test.
Man, Rat Race was such a fun, albeit paper thin and quite retarded movie
Matthew Wilson
How does a movie like Lion King rank? Or any movie with no humans?
Leo Harris
There are female lions user
Eli Lewis
But do they talk to each other about something other than a male lion?
Chase Hall
Do female lions talk to each other in real life?
Ian Hill
>make a joke comic strip in the 80s >don’t really think about for almost 30 years >suddenly you see tumblrinas taking it seriously Must be strange for the author.
Dominic Morgan
I don't think so, no.
Actually young Nala and her mum talk briefly during their bath time
Kayden Wilson
No movie of mine is gonna pass no damn jezebel test
Lincoln Cook
>Alita It might actually fail, since the few times two women spoke to each other it were at least tangentially related to a male character. >Dr. Shiren asks Alita if she can see her doll body. >She does this to see if it's the one her ex-husband created.
Matthew Sanchez
>women have to talk to each other >but they cant talk about something all women talk to other women about
Dylan Wilson
I like to apply that to my favorite animes. Pic related succeeds 95% of the time.
Turns out it's kind of hard to not talk about 50% of the species.

Soon enough the womyn meme will become reality in English speaking countries. The next target will be gendered languages like Spanish, which is already being sullied by terms such as LatinX.

the plural of anime is anime

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OP JUST TOOK HIS IMAGE FROM RESETERA HAHAHAHHAHAAH
Women can only talk about 3 things. Cock, Men, and Money.

It can be, though some films which I've seen that pass regard pastimes traditionally thought of as female. The idea of a "Miss Congeniality" that doesn't pass the Bechdel Test is equally absurd to a "Saving Private Ryan" that does.
Kevin Parker
>geena davis institute Ill pass
Andrew Nguyen
Not too hard for male movies, because men are always taking risks and pursuing interesting goals with other men, and pushing the boundaries of human accomplishment and experience. Female accomplishments often have the disclaimer "... for a woman" and women who are involved in serious human accomplishments are often atypical women that are part of a team of predominantly men.
the point of the test isn't to say that "this specific film fails the test, therefore it's bad", but "in the sum total of all films, barely any films pass this test, suggesting that the majority of films are made for/by men". it makes sense that lawrence of arabia has no women in it and it makes sense that women wouldn't be interested in watching it, so what is gained by analysing it specifically in this way?
the point of these test is to look at the sum total of all films and make the point that there's hardly any film for/by women. the problem is you can easily invert this question
>uhh.... where are all the films by/for women???
can easily be spun round to ask women why they haven't pulled their weight and contributed anywhere near as much as men have artistically. this argument has always been valid but it becomes more effective each passing year as women are afforded more opportunities/actively encouraged in areas where they're perceived to be lagging behind
this is why we've seen the transition from arguing for more films for x demographic to arguing that all films should be for all demographics. it's why you see films criticsed for a "lack of diversity", even though there's no worldview where this is a coherent criticism let alone a valid one. it's also why you see broad analysis methods like the bechdel test used to attack specific films, ironically it's now more common to see people earnestly suggesting that a film almost entirely for the amusement of white men is wrong for not having women or black people in it than it is to see them asking for an equivelant film to be made for their demographic. this is homogonized corporate board room levels of retardation and it's rapidly becoming one of the default ways of analysing film, even among intellectuals
this is ignoring the levels of broken brane needed to want the media products of a jewish pedo cult to tell you your place in the world but this website has a character count so i'll stop
Jaxson Moore
It passes the Harwell test, it, 1, has more than two members of Smash Mouth, 2, contains the song All Star by Smash Mouth, and 3, has the band Smash Mouth perform the song All Star by Smash Mouth during the end credits.
As a rule, I only watch movies which pass the Harwell test.
Adrian Taylor

Yes and its really transparent to use an OP image that other resetrannys will recognize

>uhh.... where are all the films by/for women??? I've watched 3 films recently from female directors.
1. Nancy (2018) 2. Can You Ever Forgive Me (2018) 3. The Holiday (2006)
The first two are slow, depressing character studies with ugly and intensely unlikable protagonists, the third is a generic romcom.
Eli Bailey
Based Mads was the only good thing about Polar
