s2 was unironically the best season

I liked it, it was a much more personal story about a main hero and his romance without giving too much of a fuck about some overarching criminal plot, the ending's basically Pizzaiolo telling you that it doesn't really matter if it's Julie or not. Hayes forgave his wife and ended up with a family because of it.

That said, it was true that they fucked it up by making it a bit too convoluted just for the sake of it. I got on board for the criminal angle, and got tricked into enjoying romance, essentially.
