Blackkklansman, black panther and bohemian rhapsody were way worse. This one was only mediocre.

Green Book wasn't as bad as Blackklansman and fucking A Star is Born.

It's a great little movie about accepting each other and uniting whites and blacks (unlike blackkklansman that's all about fighting and race warring), but it's the safest most blandest choice they could have picked. Genuinely the Oscar Bait of the season won.

Real deserving films were The Favourite, First Man (the snub of the ages), Cold War and even Roma would have been a more respectable choice.

The message is clear: Nothing has changed, the people in power are racist as ever, the KKK has just changed it's name but it's still an active force (much like the KKK wanted to do in the film) and the only choice for opressed people is to fight back.
It fucking ends on an upside-down flag of america (called in times of distress). It is 100% a call to action by Spike Lee's part for more fighting.

Saw Green Book this week. Had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Most of the criticisms online have nothing to do with the actual movie itself. It's all about how the black musician dude's family doesn't think the film was "accurate", or how the screenwriter had some "problematic" tweets.

They expanded the best picture category to be able to pander to more interest groups and keep the ratings from falling so fast. But the side effect of doing this is that the voting is split more ways than ever so that even a real piece of shit can win unexpectedly.

This film would have been the 9th on the run for Best Picture at any year. This year was so shit that got into the big 3 possible choices without a problem and won.
The problem was the year, not the movie, which was enjoyable and both male actors were pretty good at their roles (For once Ali did acting work instead of just looking serious at the camera all the time, as in Moonlight)
