This might be, if not the biggest Best Picture upset in Oscar history since the whole La La Land/ Moonlight fiasco, and Crash.
Seriously, this won Best Picture

At least this time it deserved the award, compared to the other nominees.
This. No one says it's great, but this and The Favourite were the only adequate choices. Roma's foreign + directing wins were enough
I was hoping it would go to Roma, or even Bohemian Rhapsody would get it. But the Oscars can't give Roma both Best Foreign Language Film and Best Picture at the same time. But surrounding the controversy for this film, I think the Oscars made the wrong choice. Also, I saw this in the theater almost a month ago, and it wasn't that bad.
Of all the nominees, it was the best.
Of all films 2018, it wasnt.
Cry more MCU faggot.
MCU won three oscar, how is that an issue ?
Spotlight and Shape of Water were both mediocre as fuck. This shit isn't any surprising. Roma didn't win because muh Netflix. The Favorite should've. At least trash like Vice, BP, Blackkklansman or BR didn't win.
The favorite falls apart in act 3. Completely unravels. The last act has nothing to do with the tone, the dialogue and the main themes of the first 2 acts.
The best film of 2018 was Climax, but since it probably counts as 2019, Id argue that Under the silver lake and you were never really here are the best after that.
First man was snubbed aswell. All in all, of the nominees, Green book was by far the best film.
i rather it lose and viggo win best actor or dafoe. hackeman did not deserve it but he was the most ethnic of the bunch so they gave it to him. can't have whitey win best actress best flick and best actor
Is Hollywood in decline? Movies seem to be getting weaker and lower in quality every single year.
Ask the salty blackies on twitter.
Actually 2018 was a great year for kino, but the films werent nominated.
Noe is too edgy for oscars.
It's the same movie made again for the 100th time.
The problem is that you're paying attention to what the Oscars think are the best. There's still plenty of good movies that isn't nomitated out there.
I thought this year sucked. Apart from alita which was one of the best childrens movies iv seen in a while.
How does everyone forget the fact that goddamn Spotlight won Best Picture.
Best Picture is reserved to that film that will upset the least amount of people on Twitter
You keep going on about Crash robbing more deserving films. Remind me, what was it up against?
>3 bronzes is better than 2 golds
This is the general cope that is happening at the moment
He was in Luke Cage too so does that make it an mcu oscar in a round about kind of way?
It's almost like meme technical oscars don't matter
Eh, 2016 nominees were all equally bad picks
Alita is 2019 and this year has barely begun.
If anything Best Picture is the meme category
ORIGINAL SCRIPT DO NOT STEAL
Name some, i haven't enjoyed a movie in years...
The last good best picture winner was No Country for Old Men
Biopics have been a weak bet as best picture winner for more than a decade now. As a subgenre, biopics are tailor-made actor tentpoles and so are perennial nominees but they have rarely won best picture this century.
>The story defines Daisy and her point of view through a network of relationships and emotions by focusing on her home life, synagogue, friends, family, fears, and concerns over a 25-year period.
>synagogue
>i haven't enjoyed a movie in years
You are aware you can watch a film that was released before your birth date, right?
Anyway
>They Shall Not Grow Old
>Cold War (yeah it's nominated but it's legitimately good)
>Burning
>Climax
>You Were Never Really Here
>First Reformed
>The House That Jack Built
>Kursk
GEE WHO MAY BE HI...oh wait, Daisy is Jewish.
The best films of each year are never even nominated anyway.
Brokeback
Capote
Good Night and Good Fuck
Munich
Field was weak. Crash using meme hypertextual narrative that was still vogue at the time thanks to Tarantino was enough to differentiate it from the rest.
you were never really here
first reformed
wildlife
mandy
shoplifters (actually nominated for best foreign)
burning
hereditary
buster scruggs
My favourite movie was made when i was born: Aliens. Yeah that's right, i fucking love that shit.
Thanks anyway.
Top lad
>the comedy that won a pulitzer prize
it was the only nonsoy picture in the lot and im glad it won
Lol the house that Jack built wasnt. The only interesting part is when he is in Hell and his reaction to that. I'll check out the other movies in the list. I need some flicks to watch.
better than the favourite and roma? God this board sucks
The build up was too slow
I dont care about female characters
The ending wasnt satisfying
Didnt like it.
all the fags that are saying it was the best choice didn't watch it and are just choosing it because twitter hates it. plain and simple. if you did watch you'd know that even blackkklansman was better.
Blackkklansman was a 5/10
It's actually the only one I watched out of all the nominees, so there
Suspiria was absolute fucking trash. When did ominous sounds combined with mysterious characters make for good film?
>witches do weird shit
>witches do more weird shit
>blood orgy at the end
>"WOW, BEST FILM SINCE BLACK PANTHER"
Leave No Trace
Otoya, July 22
Shoplifters
Outlaw King
Hold the Dark
Galveston
Alpha
Bodied
Den of Thieves
Sicario: Soldado
Annihilation
15:17 to Paris
A Sniper's War (Docu)
Based Green Book btfoing your shit picks
And you only hate it because it makes you seethe about muh white savior, see I can strawman too
Girls liked it. It had girls and dancing and a young woman over coming powerful mean older women. All it was missing was two hot guys fighting over the main character.
Reminder that every single year Yea Forums the day after the Oscars is filled with crossposting absolute casuals and you're better off being on any other board this entire day.
Alpha should have had some technical noms
You can't say it falls apart because it's more serious at the end. And the same tone is present throughout the entire film. If you actually think a boring mediocre predictable movie like green book is better than something like the favourite then you have no idea what narrative complexity is and your opinion should go straight into the trash.
Imagine thinking this movie didnt deserve it
wtf I thought Charlie Murphy was dead
>Kursk
Yeah, I know what I'm watching tonight. Thanks for reminding me.
>I don't care about female characters
Based. But also the reason why we get things like The Vanishing where stories are written by women to contain only men for the purpose of denouncing masculine attributes.
Definitely. Was expecting it to be some kiddie tripe, gave it 20 minutes and sucked me in.
Green Book is shit film in every aspect of filmmaking. Its generic piece of shit for one, any person who like this is fucking pleb without taste. And i doesnt give a fuck about politics, artistically as a film its shit.
Green Books looks literally like a television movie. But im not suprised that academy with their shit taste choose this generic trash.
I dont care if people think it's a flaw. Female and minority characters have a harder time holding my attention. It's just a fact.
You were never really here
let the corpses tan
Hereditary
All on amazon atm my dude
>nonsoy
Wtf?
explain how, with examples and we can have a discussion
First reformed and Cold War both got snubbed.
It’s atill completely insane BR and BP got nominated, but we’re probably setting up for typical blockbuster type movies to be nominated every year now.
it's carried by the script and actors. it's an engaging film. it'll be viewed as the good will hunting of the 2010s. i don't like it as a film, but the other films nominated were absolute trash.
Now; people have something else to bitch about instead of same shit like Crash or Shakespeare in Love.
I liked Klansman, but it wasn’t any different than every other movie in the genre. Not best picture worthy at all. The nominees were mostly just blockbuster shit. I’m surprised they didn’t throw crazy rich Asians in there too
>Annihilation not even nominated for visual effects/sound mixing
Absolute disgrace
The Favourite was the best film from BP nominees, its the only movie from Best Picture nominees which successfully blends artistry and enjoyment from watching it and also its well made from technical point of view, with some great shoot compositions, editing and camera work. Roma is well made, but empty, drama is weak as fuck, overrated because wall, trump and mexico. The rest nominees are straightforward "feel good" typical hollywood generic trash not worth even to spit on them, who are definitely not in top30 movies from this year and shouldn't be nominated.
Which other nominated film was better though?
Why do Americans nominate a Best Foreign film anyway?
Do they think other countries don't have their own awards ceremony? What kind of bullshit is this?
On a related note; Roma was fucking garbage. The most bait film since The Pianist. It's embarrassing that achievements in filmmaking went to a project whose entire antithesis was filmmaking. I pray wildfires consume Los Angeles.
You just have shit and generic hollywood taste, Green Book will be remembered the same as other piece of shit flick; Driving Miss Daisy.
Black people are so salty this movie won that i actually wanna watch it
next time read a post before replying to it buddy
>Green Book will be remembered the same as other piece of shit flick; Driving Miss Daisy.
so... fondly?
Is blackklansman not a comedy? I thought it was like a wayne brothers movie where a black guy joins the klan under cover. Is it actually a serious movie? Is it good?
well artistically you see [noun] [adverb] [adjective] repeat so you see i am completely convincing you in artistic fashion the demerits of the thing in itself thus am i validated.
"A black and a white talking like it's normal!"
How could the Acadmey allow something like this?
Green Book is a great little movie but it's the safest choice in years. The Oscar Bait film actually won, and no one's talking about it.
The real deserving movies where The Favourite, the heavily snubbed First Man, the incredibly snubbed Paddington 2, Cold War and Roma, who should have really won if the Oscars had any balls.
It's a drama, and it's pretty good.
Roma would have won if it wasn't a Netflix movie.
Spotlight was a great film, fight me
6/10 at best.
Because it's an American award show established before globalism was the norm.
>Do they think other countries don't have their own awards ceremony?
What does this have to do with anything? Are you a retard for real?
It's a dramedy and it's okay.
It's kinda clever but the film is a bit too far up its own ass to really deliver on it's main message.
Roma was literal dogshit of a movie. I don't mean this figuratively. Dogshit was a big part of that film.
It's fucking terrible. It's based on events that never happened, it outright lies to make its points, and then ending is using Trump quotes out of content to suggest a man who's more pro Israel than any other president, with a Jewish daughter, son in law, and grandkids is somehow a Nazi. It's insane race baiting and Spike Lee should be in jail.
The favourite is just another costume drama for housewives to romanticize, it's mediocre schlock.
All the best picture nominees fucking blew this year. This one just blew the least.
this, Green book was the non-choice. as seen by the lack of excitement whatsoever at its announcement. Just a collective, "huh"?
>bodied
fuck you.
You obviously havent even seen it, stop posting
It's in a lot of ways a parody and satire of the standard period costume drama for housewifes. Watch it, it's pretty good
Nobody cares about your opinion, manchild. Capeshit is not film.
I'm just sad that Toni Collette didn't even get a nomination
>a project whose entire antithesis was filmmaking
how so?
Aragon is fat. Is that nigga Eddie Murphy?
>eh
Go back
this is a bunch of garbaggio lmao
Reminder ROMA didnt win cause its genuinely boring and bad.
>Kino
>Sicario, shoplifters
lmao
bro-tier list. nothing snooty, nothing full pleb, all enjoyable.
movies fucking suck
severely redpilled
it reminds me of metal or hardcore band names. like everything is pseudo edgy and dark.
Leave No Trace
Shoplifters
Outlaw King
Hold the Dark
Alpha
Bodied
Den of Thieves
Annihilation
A Sniper's War
they should have thrown out the list and retroactively given the best picture to There Will Be Blood
Let's not forget the movie ends on a call to arms for violence and a possible race war.
This is the type of shit I'm talking about.
Blackkklansman for a while seems to know what it's doing, Ron is presented as a centrist character stuck in a tug-of-war between violent extremes that are basically different sides of the same coin (with the actual difference being that while the Klan is priviledged white people who feel they are opressed, the Black Power movement is genuinely filled with opressed people), the film has this really clever meta-esque commentary going throughout about black representation in film and how they perpetuate stereotypes, and this is for both Blaxploitation and movies made by white people, and it all works nicely with Ron, a guy who wants to be a Blaxploitation badass hero who fights kung-fu but solves all the problems with police procedure, deception, and being smart, nothing like his heroes.
But then, when it feels like it's going somewhere, it decides to throw it all away to say what every shmuck with a twitter account says: the KKK is in power, Trump is a racist nazi homophobe, the right-wing extreme is violent and composed of Nazis WE SHOULD ALL RISE UP AGAINST THEM.
It's just so fucking tiring
you haven't seen it, right?
Best thing about the movie is the baby getting crushed by a piece of rubble. The only time I felt something watching the movie.
Boring, drawn out pacing, bland characters, but beautiful cinematography.
>putting this much effort into writing off racist drivel
this is bait
the ole baby getting getting crushed by piece of rubble gag to pull on the heartstrings eh?
Thought the same. It’s pretty good, but isn’t best picture worthy. It’s like every other film in its category
I just wanna talk about movies, man
how could one not cringe at this pseudo-opinion. talking films here and someone pulls an experience so far outside the context, revealing the little kid's true realm of ignorance.
I loved talking about movies until they made every movie conversation political
Love me some good crush porn.
that's fair
but we can still try talking about the films themselves, can't we?
>Day of the soldaldo
>Annihilation
Wrong board.
Moonlight, uh spotlight uh.
Annihilation looked like a made for tv movie aside from one scene
Anyone that thinks this piece of shit movie is better than The Favourite and Roma is a fucking brainlet. You can't even be a typical Yea Forums contrarian about it. If you like Green Book you are aligning with the elites in Hollywood, the very people who tried to buy Hillary Clinton into the white house.
Why is Viggo starting to look like Ed Harris?
I disagree that is terrible. It was a good entertaining movie, but yeah they definitely re-wrote the history from the book to make it pander.
They turned the white cop into a jew so he “has skin in the game”
They also ignored all the undercover work the black cop did against the black panthers and instead just have him say they were chill and didn’t really mean the words they were saying and just left it st that.
It’s spike lee though, he only likes whitey if they sit down, shut up, and let the black man talk.
why aren't pre-op trannies drawn to metal?
You can't say that when PS2 Panther got nominated.
I saw it coming. People saying it was deserved are retards. The House That Jack Built, First Reformed, and Mandy should've all been nominated, but the Oscars are far too cucked for that.
The absolute state of nu-Yea Forums. I bet you think Tarkovsky was boring too
Shape of Water is great. Who doesn't like a qt mute brit fucking a fishman?
Blackklansman was tonally all over the place, one minute it's blacksploitation, then it's drama, then it's a documentary, then satire. Postmodernism at its shittest.
Spike Lee, you're not fucking Godard, get your head out of your ass.
post-op trannies don't like metal either.
Was better than Moonlight, The Shape of the Water and Spotlight together, so go and fuck yourself faggot. This year was shit and this movie was at least enjoyable.
*blocks your path*
*shoots you*
Anyone that thinks Green Book is better than The Favourite should never post on Yea Forums ever.
why tho? mutilating their natural genitals is metal as fuck. why the self-hate?
Spotlight was a genuinely great film. It is better then any best picture winner since King's Speech. (Not seen Green book)
They are both communists so they go in that shape. They are also good friends and made Appaloosa together
Absolutely. I love Viggo but his retarded EEEYYYYYY WAZZA MATTA SOUTH WHY YA GOTTA BE RACIST EEEEEEEEEYYYY "performance" is bullshit, but I think the Farrelly brother probably misdirected him, so I don't entirely blame Viggo. He's kino in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and LOTR.
>Spotlight was a genuinely great film. It is better then any best picture winner
Opinion discarded
It didn't get nominated for effects
What was the main message?
Shut the fuck up an let the adults talk.
Did you even watch the oscars? The mere mention of the word Roma caused the hollywood faggots to cream their pants
>he hasn't seen the favourite
Yorgos is always kino you fucking pleb.
Don't you fucking dare compare Tarkovsky to Cuaron, you degenerate.
I like how Yea Forums always says the Oscars are irrelevant then you complain about who wins anyways
That's exactly my point, what was the main takeaway here? I mean, remove the ending where the movie gives up and literally shows you what it wants to say. What were you supposed to be getting when watching it?
I talk more about that here You can kinda get some of what the movie wants to say but it never becomes really clear. Especially since the ending just says "fuck it" and only builds up one thing.
>Shitposting about movies you haven't even seen
Yep, I'm on Yea Forums
You realize who makes up the Academy right? People in fucking Hollywood. People who think Green Book is the best movie of the year.
He has a point. Look at the other winners since King's Speech.
The Artist
Argo
12 Years a Slave
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Moonlight
Shape of Water
and Spotlight.
Which would you put over spotlight of that sorry bunch of films?
>that's right i fucking love Aliens
very controversial opinion
Yes i never defended it. I spoke against your retarded statement.
Why exactly is everyone butthurt about Crash now?
Nightmare mode: without using white privilege theory talking points.
Green book was painfully bland, but I guess it's a better choice than Roma, which looked great but was painfully boring. Favourite should have won but it's too unique for the old farts from the academy
The Artist
And maybe Birdman.
12 Years a Slave and Shape of Water
It's a shitty movie? It's like what a 16-year-old find "deep"
Name a better film about racism.
To be fair, only 12 years a slave is a better film.
Also makes you realize that The King's Speech is the last best picture winner that doesn't have a huge block of haters.
Birdman, shape of water and 12 years a slave, and I liked neither of them. Haven't watched coonlight and the artist. Spotlight felt like a made-for-tv movie
Do the Right Thing and OJ: Made in America EASILY
Jewish propaganda film
White man drives around gay nigger
Green Book. :^)
It a film that a 16 year old might find deep, but once you get older you realize it just cheap talking points.
Holy shit didn’t even realize this was a thing
Is subkino back on the menu?
He sold out. You can tell when someone namedrops him using first name nomenclature then attaches a meme signature like kino next to it and calls it a day
Well to be fair the last time I saw it I was exactly 16, so maybe you're right.
I like how you can tell who's who posting what, reddit
So is every oscarb8. Gotta have stricter criteria than that.
Stone's character's sudden switch into being a degenerate, raging drunk was not properly explored. It felt entirely rushed from the previous acts where she is always going on about being an honorable person. And next thing you know, with no reason shown for the switch, she's some roastie whore cheating on her husband in front of him.
I've literally never watched a superhero movie that wasn't by Christopher Nolan, and even those were pretty tiring. Roma sucks dog dick.
while I disagree with your perception of the message, you are absolutely right about this.
it would've been expertly crafted if the movie played off common knowledge of what the alt-right/BLM are like or say or do, and directly applied it to the KKK/Black Panthers
OR just turn the whole movie into a TD esque dual narrative, Ron in 1970, old Rob in 2017 or whatever - better contrast the two time periods, rather than as a footnote
Based. Oscars voters don't actually watch movies.
Is Roma worth watching?
Or is it just a moralization of the plight of dark skinned mexican women?
The second one but more the lack of attention than plight. Also it's pretty good for a Netflix movie.
Yes, it's just moralizing.
Holy shit yes, giving the movie a time skip would have worked much better to work whatever contemporary message Spike wanted to. Would have been much less clunky and forced too.
>italians
>white
So Yea Forums is at a point were it's mostly just trannies spamming objective bullshit for (you)s now, huh?
THIS is why the Oscars ratings are so low, seeing Mandy in there would have made people go WTF and want to tune in to see if that or Black Panther would win.
Dude she was always like that. And the movie made sure to show how manipulative and cunning she was from the start of the movie when she lied to the servant to get into the queens bed. She didn't change in the end, she just showed her real face to everyone. How in the world didn't you realise that, i thought the director made it pretty clear. Also are you familiar with any other of movies by lanthimos? I doubt it.
>lack of attention
Do they not realize that everyone has a finite supply of attention and compassion to give?
We're not Gods.
this was a good movie FUCK TWITTER
Its a trope that rich man befriends his driver.
And its a common behaviour with people.
And the Green book is based on a novel from the 60s.
this is embarrassing
I mean it's not a terrible thing to notice. The upper class Mexicans are typically of Spaniard descent and not Indigenous, and this isn't a huge problem, but there's also a lack of awareness toward Indigenous peoples in Mexico. It's honestly no wonder they move here while the Spaniards stay in Mexico, at least people feign empathy towards the little brown square things here.
She also made sure to let it slip that she got the herbs for the queen's leg in order to gain favor with her. If that's not defining her character as being manipulative, I don't know what is.
Roma was zoomer's first arthouse film, fuck that.
The Favourite was fun but forgetable and Roma was another Cuaron tryhard film, technically impressive but emotionally flat. Green Book was successful in what it aimed to do, which was entertain.
The best films this year weren't nominated anyway so fuck your "patrician" opinions
Lmao imagine being so lazy and self-centered you don't even watch the trailer and think your opinion should be respected
capeshit shouldn't have won best picture
Roma wasn't arthouse, it was a typical black and white with a message from a foreigner's POV.
Yeah, housewives love lesbian relationships between paralytic, drooling, obese queens; facially disfigured, manipulative bitches wearing eye patches; and frail-looking, sadistic, animal-torturing blondes.
I didn't watch this movie, because it looks stupid, but non-ironically they do.
Housewives LOVE watching COLD CASE and CSI and ETC.
This is what I don't get. People are pissy about Green Book winning. I haven't seen it yet- and I'm sure its cute but forgettable fare....
but after the shitfest that was "Shape of Water" won last year I find it laughable this movie is getting so much hate thrown at it. The again the fishfucking movie checked all the right SJW boxes... so that's probably why.
Right, the director made sure to show her as this cold hearted cunt. She had no love for anyone. She was only focused on surviving. She is living in a state of self made misery. And we all understand why and where she's coming from. To the point where at the end, when she realises no matter how high she climbs she'll always be miserable, i couldn't help but feel bad for both of them(her and the queen i mean). She was an amazing character overall, and lanthimos is great in making characters feel realistic even when it's satire.
they do love all of those things, you moron.
>Green book is based on a novel from the 60s
No it's not. Stop lying.
Same thing happened with the overrated "Do the Right Thing." It was relatively fair for 3/4 of the film (not great but it had moments) only to spiral out in the last 1/4 as a "fuck whitey, rioting and destroying a man's livelihood is a good thing!"
I haven't seen any other Lee movies. But do his films generally have this trend? Be even-handed for 1/2 to 3/4 of the film and then go full WOKE the last act?
The problem is that the kinship is so far removed, that it may as well take place in China or Mars.
Normally the radiance of empathy goes:
family>friends>neighbors>countrymen>...etc
Reciprocally, I don't think the indigenous mexican house maid cares about my plight, my family's plight, my friends' plight, etc. Nor would they care about the plight somewhere else on the other side of the world.
In other words, this movie wasn't made for me and if it was made for me as a target audience, then it's woefully out of touch with the expectations of reality/humanity. As I said, we're not Gods and I can't care as much for far off strangers as I do my own family.
Hollywood still is under the assumption that we operate under the mechanics of infinite compassion, in reality it's just too tiresome for the audience to apply this on a global level.
At least with Green Book, that can be applied on a day-to-day philosophical level of blacks humanizing whites, and whites humanizing blacks to improve domestic race relations.
You are laughable. The favourite was an original satire piece of fiction. Bizarre and unpredictable. While green book was like any other oscar bait movie ever created. Nothing new, nice worth remembering, just a boring mediocre piece of garbage movie, that people like you can't seem to get tired of.
You are seriously a brainlet if that's what you got out of DTRT. Hint: the title is ironic since no one does the right thing in the end.
I like you.
The Favourite wasn’t anything special.
I know. Nobody even fucks a fish in it.
His movies usually go full dialectic at the end. Malcolm X literally ends with Nelson Mandela talking directly to the audience.
That was actually a good movie
sure they do, and what else do they like? Dragons? I bet they like dragons. U and goblins, and rape, and isis. And what else, Yea Forums, yeah yeah they also love Yea Forums. I bet your mom is reading your comment right now, say hi to her.
That's fair, if it isn't for you then that's fine. It's like that Period short movie, about women in India and how something as simple as a normal female function can keep them from being able to finish their education due to embarrassment or religious authorities keeping them from entering a prayer area -- I won't ever experience this, but I do have some empathy. I feel like they left things out of that short though, because while most of the men they interviewed according to what they stuck in the movie didn't know what a period was, when some of them seemed to have an idea they didn't seem to care enough to beat their women for bleeding. If anything it seemed more like their oppression came from their own embarrassment. So I don't disagree with you, I'm just saying that I can feel a bit of empathy despite the fact that I'll never be in an Indigenous position in life.
>Housewives have lesbian ageplay fantasies centered around power dynamics
Sorry, my bad, remembered that wrong from articles.
The roadtrip is planed after this travel guide in pic, but there was never a book that movie is based on.
Go jerk off to The Happytime Murders, you troglodyte.
How was it an upset? It was on the high end of people's predictions for the winner and won a GG.
Neither was your conception.
Roma is overrated pleb shit. Basic bitch mexican film
Driving Miss Daisy
Birdman
I know this sounds insensitive, but at what level do these stories morph from non-fiction to fantasy? While the woman's case in India or in Mexico may be indeed real, it's so far removed from me and my localized reality that I'll never interact with them nor encounter similar problems or situations. The utility of these stories may have application in their own localized settings, but domestically it is just emotional-empathic gratification for issues that we've mostly overcome already; at the expense of dealing with new and real tough issues. After a point it becomes an exercise of us in sincerely weeping for suffering elves and dwarves in Middle-Earth.
I'm sure Hollywood can craft a tale of the emotional plight of a cavewoman from thousands of years ago, and draw some thin analogies to our modern times, but these energies can be better spent in something more relevant and forward-thinking. I'm not saying that indigenous people are analogous to cavepeople, just using an extreme example of the disconnect between cultural differences.
My point is that we've overestimated our capacity for both compassion and agency to act on that compassion. We can't notice everyone's problems nor can we address them all, yet we for some insane reason taking the guilt for it because we briefly glanced at it. This pathological empathy is harmful to our society since it's both feckless and ineffectual. Better to use this capacity for focus on fixing domestic problems that we can actually address, rather than fail at playing World Cultural Police.
Even Star Trek got this right with the Prime Directive.
Why couldn't Roma win both foreign and domestic Oscars?
How is it that big of an upset? The only worthwhile movies nominated were The Favourite and Roma, and both have the foreign director bias. The real upset was fucking Mr Robot getting a an award for his veneers while based Viggo eats shit.
That's what I assumed in my even handed whiteness too, but no, Spike Lee literally said that if you don't agree with the rioting and fucking the pizza place up you're unironically a racist.
Because Roma's story pertained to narrow cultural issue in a foreign country.
The plight of an indigenous maid vs a Spaniard dominant society is irrelevant in a domestic setting where black & white relations are domestically more pertinent and topical.
arent they remaking this?
>This might be the biggest upset in Oscar history since last year
100% brainlet
I can't believe the nerve of the fucks doing an American remake of this.
Mahershala ali won for moonlight and green book
yet twitter call this racist and praised moonlight what the fuck is going on
also its a shit film in general
Whites and blacks aren't allowed to be in the same movie and not completely fucking hate each other.
one of the worst years in oscars. what a shitty lineup. i knew something wasn't right when last years films were so good. this is the universe rebalancing itself.
so Capote should have obviously won then
it's definitely a better film than the rest of those
Probably all, and they all suck.
the fact that Collette didn't get nominated for Hereditary but Kaluuya did for Get Out is some transparent bullshit
Spike Lee is just being an asshole and exaggerating what's on the screen.
don't forget the ham-fisted political subtext that ultimately goes nowhere
What was the point of draining a film of its color
Also Tilda Swinton as the old man was distracting as fuck because it just sounded like a woman acting like a german old man (which it was..) they should have lowered her pitch to make it come off as any bit believable
>green book was oscar bait
>omg why did green book win oscar
Literal retard. The fact that you care so much is proof that you are an imbecile
Reminder that the voting system rewards the "least disliked" film
Voters aren’t asked to pick their favorite film when they fill in their ballots; instead they’re asked to rank the films up for best picture from most preferred to least preferred.
When PricewaterhouseCoopers counts up those votes, its tabulators first sort the best picture ballots into piles based on first choice. If one film accumulates more than 50 percent of the vote, that film is the winner. If not, the film that received the lowest number of first-choice votes is removed from contention, and all its ballots are redistributed to their second choices. This process is repeated until a film has more than 50 percent of the vote, at which point a winner is declared.
>Good Will Hunting of the 2010s
No that spot is already taken by Manchester by the Sea
Hereditary was a shit movie tho
>"fuck whitey, rioting and destroying a man's livelihood is a good thing!"
Yeah that wasn't point of that movie.
And how are you seeing that i care too much? The imbecile is you, spouting bullshit, not having anything to contribute in a discussion. Go fuck yourself.
Is Crash a movie about people fucking in cars and how car crashes give you orgazm?
>Is Hollywood in decline?
100% yes.
They used to make movies in which they had great directing/writing/acting so that they would get great box office $.
Now they just make movies with an SJW message. This will lead to good reviews, $ and Oscars all at the same time.
In the past, most Oscar bait movies were called out for being as such and didn't win.
Now the more Oscar baity & SJW your film is, the higher chance of winning.
Hollywood films are dead. Leftist faggots killed them.

Ironically Blackkklansmen is probably more inaccurate than Green Book, since we actually have Stallworth's memoirs whereas it's he said she said in regards to Don Shirley's story.

>They used to make movies in which they had great directing/writing/acting so that they would get great box office $.
They still do
to be fair it's deeper than you might have originally thought. remember the beginning when ludacris and the other black guy are talking about racism, profiling and then rob a white woman for her Escalade and terrify her with the threat of rape?
That was actually pretty deep and very true regarding perpetual black "victims" of racism and how they actually are in society vs how they are actually portrayed in the movies. Bold move for bait.
>They still do
No they don't. The #1 thing in film now is what SJW message it has and how powerful and bold it is.
Black Panther looked like fucking shit.
Most directing is average at best.
Most writers focus more on "muh oppression" than actual dialog and subtext.
dog fucker
In 3yrs, no one will remember that this movie won the Best Picture Oscar.. ditto goes for Regina King and her "pity" Oscar
>Black Panther looked like fucking shit.
Only for the final fight, Jurassic Park has it's moments where it looks like fucking shit as well. Do we dismis the entire movie because of that?
>Most writers focus more on "muh oppression" than actual dialog and subtext.
Why can't oppression be part of the dialog and subtext?
>Jurassic Park has it's moments where it looks like fucking shit as well.
That was 1993 you dumb faggot. At the time it was state of the art and the best they could do.
>Do we dismis the entire movie because of that?
When did I dismiss the entire movie? I said it looked like shit (with no other criticism).
>Why can't oppression be part of the dialog and subtext?
Sure it can, but when it's in every movie (for SJW points and Oscar bait) it's tiresome. That and the fact that modern writers don't know how to handle it properly. There is no subtext anymore, it's in your fucking face. The final thirld of Blakkklansmen was some of the most ridiculous shit I've ever seen. The opposite of subtext.
They went from movies with a message, to a message in a movie.
wrong crash
I don't agree and I'd say Get Out was a lot shittier. The point is if you're going to say Get Out was nominated based on merit and the fact that it's one of the first horror films to be nominated in those categories, Hereditary deserved at the very least a nom for Colette. You can debate whether it was a good movie but I'd say you'd be hard-pressed to say it was not a fantastic performance on her part.
Either horror movies are awarded based on their merit and not because of the fact that they're full of black people or you must concede that Get Out was awarded based on it being a "black" movie and not because of its actual quality.
With 8 pictures nominated, you only need 12-15% of the votes to win First Place. Worst of that was when that trite Slumdog Millionaire won, there were TEN Nominees that year.
It's the opposite philosophy of Post-Irony: it's Post-Sincerity.
They want their fantasies to as or more real than reality actually is. So Wakanda actually exists because they made it so lifelike on film.
So racism is rampant because it was so authentically portrayed within the world setup.
So oppression is so brutal because the fictional white man is so vilely acted.
They are sincerely believing their fantasies now.
They are trying make their stories hyperreal rather than in the traditional context of sub-real.
At what point will the Jussie Smollett hoax be considered a "performance piece" and be treated just as real if it actually occurred or not? Because the emotions were real, so who cares about reality.
If racism/oppression is in short supply but high demand, you just fabricate the supply and call the illusion real.
>Get Out was awarded based on it being a "black" movie and not because of its actual quality.
Absolutely agree, they are both shit movies. Although i have to say get out was a bit better, a 6/10 maybe. Her acting was nothing special. Her crying wasn't convincing at all, she just made a stupid face, with no tears coming out.
it could but people aren't going to vote for it in both categories
the white savior always wins
without us niggers wouldn't even have cameras to film their movies
not true
I thought it was overly contrived and hamfisted when I was a 17 year old libshit
>Climax
Gaspar Noé is my favorite Director.
I'm so glad this won best picture.
I want Hollywood to go so deep into the white hate that it gets hilariously ridiculous. I want it to get so bad that I want to watch these movies just to see how weird and bad it is.
If they turn around now it's like cumming at the worst possible moment.
100% accurate. Colonialism and European style slavery were the greatest things that ever happened to the blacks.
Eat shit ridleyfag, based jimbo's alien flick was better
So people now hate Crash? Wtf, when was hating this movie an actual thing?
I hate that the best picture has to be a Hollywood product. I get that it's all Hollywood elites in the academy to begin with so obviously they are only going to vote for their people and friends unless you include a "foreign this" category for everything but I really wish it wasn't so shallow and stupid. Roma deserved to sweep.
Did you think housewives aren't watching GoT or normie movies like The Favourite? lmao
I didn't know game of thrones had goblins and isis or did you respond after the first word you read. Favourite is a normie movie? Wow i can't even comprehend how smart and how incredible your taste must be. Oh wait it's not, you are just a child that hasn't even watched the movie yet. You are literally nobody, you r worthless and even in a shitty board like this you manage to show how much worthless you are.
aight bros
- is it worth watching
- is there a decent torrent release
go on rarbg.
This is why putting popular flicks in the Best Picture category was a mistake. Go back to nominating five oscarbaits that everyone will forget in a year.
It's not, you'll forget it the next day. Plus if you just wanna watch it for the discussion, don't. Nobody is gonna talk about it tomorrow.
its a feel good movie
remember Crash? remember Avatar? remember 12 years a slave? well, there you go
1) An Elephant Sitting Still
2) Climax
everyone remembers avatar
12 Years a Slave
Birdman
Shoplifters for best foreign movie
Roma best movie
There, fixed it
1. 4 hours long why
Do you have ADHD or what.
