Anyone with any familiarity with Academy politics and the history of the Oscars could have easily predicted Green Book's win. The Academy has a strong anti-streaming bias, and safe, inoffensive films about race relations are always held in high esteem. Green Book winning was a no brainer.

Yeah but they are changing the circle of voters these last few years, including more varied people. Also, this decade was marked by some unusual wins for Best Picture, like The Artist, Birdman and Moonlight, so expecting an arthouse film like Roma to win at the end of the decade wasn't really that far-fetched. It was seen as one step further after these last couple of progressive years.

If it hadn't been a Netflix film, it would have been a lock.
