This thread is starting slowly. Maybe the magna inquisition won't find it.

>introduce protagonist in such a way that establishes that total dismemberment is not a big deal >expect audience to be tense when threats of dismemberment are presented
???
Bentley Lewis
Dear fellow purists, how do we implement this for the big screen?
Be honest bros, will Alita win ANYTHING next year?
Nathaniel Edwards
if 300 years doesn't kill it, ain't much else going to.
Charles Sanchez
>especially when grewshika flat out directly states he has no intention of killing her
...
Asher Barnes
She already won my heart
Jaxon Gray
its funny that you go for the weakest possible example of "unadaptable" scenes. Hell, the entire ZOTT would best be on the cutting room floor, because it was god-fucking-awful.
I really liked how they cribbed that line from the manga, from a character who had been going back and forth with gally for a fair chunk of time, and gave it to a character who had maybe 45 seconds worth of contact with alita.
No. Doesn't matter how much money it makes it won't even be nominated for anything, because it doesn't adhere to the Hollywood standards. Now had Hugo been replaced with a black guy and had Alita been full of feminist one liners then it would be a different thing. But she already won where it matters. See Fuck Oscars and that other noise.
Matthew Baker
When has such a thing ever happened, especially for a movie that was intentionally limited to pg 13?
Justin Hill
Anyone else like the Spanish colonial church Rodriguez threw in there because he felt like it? Comfy place for the scene with the sacred heart.
Parker Jones
that HDTC is okay. The visuals aren't really impressive enough to give a shit. You've seen hundreds of similar (or better) shots... if you aren't some third worlder with no actual access to film... but even then you're used to yify.
Matthew Allen
fucking kek
Cooper Smith
who cares, if we get a sequel all is well. I just want my hard copy right NOW with copious behind the scenes crap and the Cam-approved-secret-directors-cut
Gabriel Brooks
That's what I figured myself. The ending to the first volume(?) should be where the film ends.
Too much weeb tropes in the last order.
Leo Richardson
Don't forget they killed the only major black character and the other one was a nurse working for a white man.
Camden Morris
his teacher touched him down there
Brayden Murphy
It's been a while since i've liked a protagonist this much.
He was pissed they forgot to give him any characterization.
Dominic Cook
Man this motorball arc doesn't fucking end
Xavier Hernandez
I felt like he really based the whole thing in Mexico City due to set cues like that, as well as Bad Guy’s mayan calendar back piece. Mexico locations are totally a Rodriguez signature, not implausible. JC would totally go with it.
Dylan Carter
...and even Alita's intro that you mindlessly bitch about in your initial post is not only something that makes her miserable for a while from amnesia identity loss, but also a miracle in the first place according to Ido. It's not like we're going to see Hugo ever again from the exact same circumstance.
David Myers
The OVA ran through the first two volumes of manga in under 60 minutes. Clumsily, but the hope was at the very least cameron would be able to clean it up. It'd be easy to go through a sane motorball progression in another hour or hour and a half.
But what's kinda hilarious is because of how much it cost to do the googly eyes, they had a hard limit of two hours.
Caleb Stewart
>"ORANGES? THATS NO GOOD" >Gives her a chocolate bar Best written movie of 2019.

I'm really glad I watched it. Thanks Yea Forums.

Serious question: How many dirty Chinese noodle stalls can we expect to see in the sequel?
What are your thought on Zapan? He is so edgy and cool so that was enough for me.
Isaiah Cook
Whew, after those Oscars, it's like leaving a furnace and coming back to a cool air-conditioned store. Damn it feel's good.
Jaxon Ramirez
You think Zapan didn't have characterization but Alita did?
Colton Lee
Since you're obviously the idiot shill from last thread, the basic issue is, were this a western, they introduced the protagonist in such a way that showed he was immune to bullets. Then spent the duration of the movie trying to build suspense/tension by having character after character try to shoot him.
Thomas Jackson
You're gonna look funny with bits of a bluray disc stuck in your teeth.
Gimmie a torrent. Unless you guys actually think this movie is worth the money.
Owen Phillips

never seen the same movie 5 times in a week. You'd think that it would lose its shine after a couple times but it just fucking doesn't. I wish it were longer.

>He rebuilds her and trusts in her more and in turn she’s humbled and gratified, treats ido a lot better (kissing him on the cheek, cuddling up to him) He rebuilds her because she didn't have a fucking body anymore
Caleb Kelly
No one was well characterized, but zapan is just laughable. As he suddenly has a huge murderboner for hugo out of literally nowhere 40 minutes after he's a non-entity in a bar.
Lucas Nguyen
I heard Jim himself shifted the setting down to Latin America from Kansas because being a tech autist, he realized it was extremely implausible for a space elevator to be built anywhere except the equator.
Dominic Cox
If they weren't hacking apart robots, it probably would have been a hard R. They didn't shy away from violence imo.
Jayden Barnes
But dismemberment is one step away from having your brain case popped as you're incapacitated
Carson Williams
I liked how ido builds a serviceable body for hugo in no time flat, but for whatever reason never got around to building a body for his daughter, and just made her roll around in a wheelchair in a completely crippled sack of flesh.
It is not only worth the money, a disgusting eyecancer cam rip is the worst way to watch it
Leo Foster
He didn't give a shit about Hugo. He was an Alpha that got humiliated in front of all of his friends by a little girl and he thought the best way to hurt her was to hurt her love interest.
Leo Butler
If there's a genre worth the money on big screen it's this one.
Jack Bennett
>alita more like Flopita!
Carter Williams
I liked that he's a cartoonish dickhead who stayed bad and didn't develop a conscience.
Kevin Price
Jesus you're stupid.
Josiah Morales
His characterization is that he’s vain, arrogant, and petty. His “murderboner” is because he was humiliated by Alita easily beating him up in the bar and wanted to hurt in in revenge. How does that negate the rest of the post? He doesn’t rebuild her and then go “okay alita just because I put you in this body doesn’t mean anything, you’re still forbidden from being a hunter warrior and doing dangerous shit!” He accepts that she’s not his little girl and takes a step back, and in turn she accepts him as a father figure.
Jacob Bailey
that's right guys, ignore the relevant part of the post.
Julian Perez
In the manga, the body from some cyborg who died of a stroke offscreen.
Jaxson Gomez
Yeah, serviceable... like something from Home Depot.
Which that body pretty much was.
Angel Parker
It's worth the money. It felt like a breath of fresh air.
Brayden Collins
His characterization is he's someone alita effortlessly slaps around and outsmarts.
Lincoln Brooks
But the manga also had robots, yet it included hookers getting gibbed, children rotting alive, brains being eaten, half of hugos torso being vaporized and his guts spilling out and so on. They intentionally made it less violent, upping it to R would be a questionable business decision.
Levi Myers
I’m not fond of the song itself but the way the movie ends with the orchestral swell and immediately segues into the electronic drop and the end titles before the motorball-stadium-like chanting kicks in is kino. I also like when tie-in songs utilize parts of the movie score itself, like the four-note string motif and the brass interlude in this case.
Camden Sanders
>i'd prefer my daughter be suffering and/or dead than have literally any mobility while I work on this pretty body
In the setting it's like making your daughter go nude because you don't have a pretty dress for her.
Oliver Cook
>soundless Joshugan vs The Five Will this kino make it in the next film?

Not really, user.
Jacob Moore
That shit was cool as hell, I would never suspect that you could pull off a muted scene like that in a comic yet the effect is immediate
Tyler Kelly
if she didn't outsmart him, he would've been able to tell she was keeping hugo alive.
But hey, keep acting like the movie is flawless.
Carson Robinson
>out of literally nowhere Did you not pay attention to the fucking movie?
Wyatt Bailey
I like how you guys are really bad at arguing, but you never really shut up either. You'll ignore just about every point and quibble on something utterly irrelevant, and then flash yourself a tard-grin in the mirror you have near your desk.
Dylan Morales
Yeah, Ido would totally be the kind of guy to decapitate his daughter and attach her head to a trashcan on wheels until he got her perfect body finished
Evan Lewis
Probably the only movie this year i'd imagine the vast majority of Yea Forums would advise supporting.
There is no relevant part, asshat. The character is fucking straightforward:
>egotistical "pretty boy" show-off in a gang of bounty hunters who immediately starts flirting with the new girl >gets hella riffed on in front of the other dudes >becomes a petty shithead because he's insecure af
This is elementary comic book characterization. Why you're having trouble parsing it is astounding.
Samuel Thomas
its only worth supporting if you think more spineless big budget anime adaptations will make people on Yea Forums angry.
Nicholas Watson
Yes... when there would be no market for the movie.
"Lets spend $200 million on a R-rated gore-fest (based on a comic book for 10-year-old Japanese boys).
No market, no merit, just a bad idea.
Aiden Cruz
What relevant part, your complaint that he is one dimensional? You made a point of him having a random murderboner for Hugo and we explained to you why he went after him. That guy is your regular Alpha douchebag who throws a tantrum when he is humiliated. These guys exist all over the damn planet and often the rest of their personality is "I lift heavy things and put them down." You don't need some kind of a deep complex personality for every bad guy, especially when their existence revolves around killing street scum for money.
>Since you're obviously the idiot shill from last thread
...and I didn't even discuss with anybody in this board today but if I made you feel this way on behalf of somebody else I'm still honored, so much for these threads being over this weekend.
I'll just add I appreciated more, watching this again this weekend, the scene where Vector was frustrated at Chiren getting access to Alita's exposed heart in the Church without killing her and stealing it, since that was what Nova had been nagging all 3 of them to do the whole movie.
Brandon Lewis
We're talking about a movie that goes from "ido is my friend, ido is suspicious, ido is a murderer! ido is my friend!" in three minutes.
Eli Cooper
But the main marketing point is a qt, and kickass robot girl
Austin Wright
Dirty Chinese noodle stands are crucial to cyberpunk.
David Gomez
Can't remember his face either
Jayden Roberts
He WAS able to tell she was keeping Hugo alive. That's why he tries to grab him and Alita slashes his face off.
Kayden Rodriguez
you couldn't be more transparent if you had a tripcode.
>Lets spend $200 million on a R-rated gore-fest (based on a comic book for 10-year-old boys).
... considering you're describing deadpool, which was mentioned in the post you're replying to, that's kinda... really fucking stupid dude.
Jace Green

Daniel Bailey
No user, it is you who are the casual
Hudson Brown
so your counter-argument to the assertion that zapan is a flat character that exists only to get beaten up and outsmarted by alita is... he was beaten up and outsmarted by alita.
Mason Stewart
mfw dirty chinese noodle stands in Alita 2: Zalem Boogaloo
You're arguing dishonestly. It was not Alita's idea to cut off Hugo's head, but Dr. Shirin's. Without her intervention, Alita would have been in a different situation. You are deliberately lying to make it sound like Alita thought of the deception, did the surgery herself, and then claimed victory by cutting his face off and taking his sword.
She had help.
Kayden Brooks
>just this part is more than enough already
Jaxson Adams
no you see no neon cuz were gunna run out sometime in da next 300 years and we'll figure out literally zero ways to get anymore ever.
But microfusion antimatter reactors the size of a fist? EZPZ
Thomas Perez
You're now trying to justify zapan's complete and total flatness by the fact a deus ex machina character teleported in at just the right time.
Noah Ross
Deadpool had a $58 million budget, not $200 million.
Jordan Richardson
I'm casual because I can actually follow a simple plot? Fuck off.
Ryan Anderson
>cornered, the shill quibbles this is just getting sad.
Asher Hill
Ah, I see. You're one of those people. Alright, better to stop here and let you claim your "victory". You will never concede, so I won't waste any more time.
What the hell is the point of arguing with you if you’re going to twist everything into some halfassed cinema sins insult?
Jaxon Brown
and if they had dropped the googly eyes, the budget here would've come in at about 40-50m. Cause there sure as fuck wasn't much money on display anywhere else.
Matthew Cox
You should see yoko > that flashback scene from LO where she turns a group of riot cops into mystery meat as alita cums a little in awe of her skills
Chase Nguyen
I really don't know why anyone would work this hard to justify bad writing.
Jason Collins
You must be retarded, or something.
She had her head bashed in by a human wrecking machine who broke in to steal drugs.
Ito saw that all coming by using his URM-built magic ball...but was too lazy to do anything about it.
Jaxon Ortiz
Ty for your service I will single-handedly bring this general to #100 if I have have to
Sebastian Cruz
What are you even going for here? He is a fairly flat character but not unrealistic by any means and he works well enough and his motivations fit his personality. Something you don't seem to comprehend, because you didn't even get why he was after Hugo to begin with.
The point is that I'm not expecting him to be some kind of a complex deep character where as you seem to expect me to come up with some reason that elevates him to that position you deem necessary for a character to be good. He is a fairly flat character which works. I'm not expecting him to be more. There's no need for him to be anything more.
Hudson Sullivan
How has Alita’s brain survived for 300 years without her neurons oxidizing and atrophying?

Who would waste a whole $200 million to hustle the simpletons who watched Deadpool, when a budget $130 million less would get the job done?
Isaiah Campbell
I'd bet $500 you're either mexican or indian.
Evan Long
>that exists only to get beaten up and outsmarted by alita Why is that a problem? He's a punk whose personality makes sense for the bounty hunter gang, and he'll also be returning in the sequel because his character has another arc in the manga. Not everything has to have greater meaning to it, there can be morons who exist to get their asses whooped. It's an ACTION movie.
Mason Robinson
>$130m na ur wrong da budget was onry 72m.
Luis Baker
>Cause there sure as fuck wasn't much money on display anywhere else
Not the guy you're engaged with, but have you never heard of a thing called hindsight? Yeah, it's infinitely more easier to figure out what you *should* have done than to actually do it before it happens. People make dumb mistakes all the time, even smart people. Infallibility is not a trait of man.
Juan Jackson
It's like half a chapter of pure gore, when she's sneaking around in a stealth suit and before she fights that monkey faced guy somewhere around 1/3rd into LO
Jonathan Thomas
which is kinda hilarious if they even go that direction, as she just cut it clean off, and this is a setting where its no biggie to graft a severed head to a sewing machine. She didn't even set it on fire or anything.
David Hall
130 million LESS means x - 130 million.
Kevin Edwards
>in the sequel
user, I...
Jacob Martin
Did anyone notice how much camera focus was given to Alita's hands? There were so many shots of them at all different points in the film, from when she is flexing her new hands to when she is holding hands with Hugo, etc. I couldn't help but think this was Rodriguez snubbing Tarantino, like friendship-ended-with style. Cameron is my new kinofriend now
Kayden Sanders
The "hindsight" argument requires ido to somehow not know that the scrapyard is dangerous.
Eli Reed
There are laws and citizen protections. Killing someone is an automatic death sentence. Try watching the movie.
Its because of how much cheaper it was to show her hands than her face, according to rodriguez interviews.
Andrew Price
There will be a sequel, user. And it will be good.
Julian Nguyen
>no shots of feet Damn
Juan Price
No, it's more like living in downtown LA and knowing nigs can nig at any moment in your home, so you buy a gun, but you foolishly leave it in a locked safe, so when a nig does inevitably come nigging, you have to spend extra time getting it out and by that time the nigs already did their dirty nig deeds.
Ryder Garcia
>200 million budget >60 million domestic box office Not gonna make it bro
Right, I keep forgetting how cuddly and safe they made "iron city" in the movie. I keep automatically thinking of the literal hell on earth the scrapyard was in the manga.
I mean, in the movie its a mostly lawless hellhole with no actual police and hyper-technology just lying around, but its safe enough to let your kids go out and play the tame version of murderball.
Samuel Collins
Disney want Captain Marvel to be *the* movie about a strong female character. Can't allow a cutie to steal the thunder and do it better.
James Jones
Well that was the other thing of course. Whenever she made a face they really chewed it for a few extra seconds.
Christian Hall
Will make it just fine. : )
Camden Miller
I haven't watched the movie yet, but in the manga he's accidentally charged with bounty stealing when he tries to take hugos head
Lincoln Jones
Does anyone have that one pic of alita looking at the camera extremely pissed off?
Adrian Sanders
I liked the focus. It just looked so nice and fluid with that slight metallic sound.I just want machine appendages god damn it
Liam Martinez
I went with two other people and we were a third of the audience. On a rainy day. Second weekend. Don't make Alita sad. Keep going user.
>but its safe enough to let your kids go out and play the tame version of murderball. Well that's a detracting point. You'll notice all the bad stuff happens during the night. And we're not talking about the manga here. The manga is the manga. We're talking about the movie.
Jonathan Peterson
In the movie when zapan finds hugo alone, hugo's like "i dont have a bounty so fuggof" so zapan just murders a dude and somehow that gives HUGO a bounty.

You can't honestly pretend that Disney doesn't buy critics anymore.
Anthony Watson
They're right. Don't you understand that critics are paid to criticize? They don't give genuine criticism, they write some words for a paycheck. If they review something negatively, or positively, it doesn't matter, it was done for money and money alone. And larger corporations definitely do have review columns in their pockets.
Tyler Walker
Sorry. no paycheck for you mousecuck. Clearly you didn't shill hard enough.
Thanks to you, captain marbles is gonna flop.
Anthony Parker
>acknowledging the existence of something i don't like is soỳ
it existed and made more money than alita will.
Levi Thomas
If you want to know why the critics gave this bad reviews, listen to what Brian May had to say about Bohemian Rhapsody
>"The mistake that critics made was reviewing the trailer instead of reviewing the film. They jumped to conclusions. Once people stake their claim, it's hard for them to withdraw."
This is right about Alita too. Basically all the negative reviews came from Disney shills or people who saw the eyes and noped out
Brayden Baker
Her baroque inlaid arms at the beginning were very cute and elegant.
It's really not hard to sway critics. You don't have to pay them, just threaten them with blacklisting. No interviews, no premiere passes, no screeners, no first looks, etc. Lack of that access means they cannot make a career of their job. It's easy and it's legal.
Juan Wright
I really liked the eyes. They that uncanny valley to emphasize that Alita was a not a human in a cast of otherwise realistic faces.
Are critics so retarded that they didn't realize that was the point of it?
Joshua Gomez
She doesn't actually say "pathetic." But I should have known better.
Joseph Morales
They keep digging themselves deeper and deeper. I have no idea how they could salvage their reputation short of killing themselves.
Juan Johnson
critics were harsh on bohemian raphsody because it's a completely flat story with zero character development. Its just >we make band >we make this hit >we make that hit >we make other hit >we break up >we make up >we play concert >fin >freddie mercury died of aids on the way back to his homeplanet
Just saw it. It's not that good. Alita is cute but that's about it. Also I more or less got called a pedo because I liked her in the first third of the movie where her body is basically meant for a child.
I was sure that three views were enough for me. I woke up and realized that I wanted to watch this movie again. I'm too old for this shit. I last watched the film more than three times when the Fifth Element was released ...
I hope Ido laser printed those markings and not slowly did it by hand.
Joseph Wood
I don't have any friends and my girlfriend doesn't want to see this movie. I missed Avatar in 3D. Is Alita worth seeing by myself? Will I get kicked out for being alone?
And Hugo thought for how much he would sell her hands.
Nolan Gutierrez

Lucas Sanchez
Yes, too often but not in the cinema. Very long, viewing of three director versions takes all day. Blade Runner 2049, Hellboy, but I went to them only twice.
Easton Edwards
Deadpool is to Reddit as Blade Runner is to Yea Forums. No shit it made a lot of money when it's targeted to pseudointellectuals and brainlets who cum whenever some reference to their favorite shit pleb thing is made or edgy retarded joke is made. "OoOoO look at me I'm being edgy aren't I funny pickle rick mayonnaise NEON CAT XDXDXD". Fuck that shit.
Gavin Baker
last time I saw a movie twice in theaters was the first Hobbit, 2D then 3D. Before that it was Revenge of the Sith. I'm gonna check out Alita in IMAX on Wednesday.
David Jackson
This movie is made for you.
Chase Scott
Bringing these along for a rewatch it seems appropriate
The LotR EE marathon should only be done with those theaters like Alamo Drafthouse where you get meals served. It's like an ordeal to watch 12 hours of movie in a day.

Oliver Williams
You won't be alone because Alita will be there for you. :3
John Adams
Given the track record, and Steven Spielberg producing GitS, nope. Alita exceeding all expectations. Some flaws, but that's inescapable. The only major flaw was not being 5 hours long.
Jordan Morales
alita was almost as bad. >i get found >i get body >i lose body >i get new body >i do motorball >i get sword >i kill some henchmen of the great white devil in the sky >i loose my crush before we can get married >timeskip >i win teh motorballs >come to see alita 2!
William White
I didn't think anything of it before it started to pick up steam here. When I heard about it months ago, I was totally ambivalent and thought of it as a curious novelty. But then I saw more trailers and my interest began to genuinely pick up and I basically in a decision of haste decided that I want to see it on the big screen. Boy am I glad I did.
I might go the movies like once or twice per year, tops, since the vast majority of movies that come out suck or I feel aren't good enough to warrant my money which is better invested in other things. But this, this is one where I can say with a straight face and without any hesitance that I do not regret my decision.
It was just fucking fun, man.
Kevin Wilson
I thought it was going to be the "heroine" standard we have today
>acts like a man >acts passive agressive to all men in the movie >looks like a guy >has a personality that is not likeable in the slightest
I went for the action really, but I am so happy that I was so wrong about it.
Her URM cyborg casing face was cosmetically hyper preserved when Ido found it, the brain and also heart sustaining it (Ido said its output could last many years) weren't even exposed, she was basically a Jurassic Park mosquito finding
Nicholas Baker
I don't think it's going to make the 765 googolplex to the googolplex power it needs just to break even.
Seriously I expected nothing. All I heard was that an anime was being adapted by Cameron and the waifu had large eyes, didn't even watch trailers. I wanted to see what that was about. Completely loved it the first time. Loved it even more the second.
Bentley Adams

Gabriel Diaz
>Fifth Element. You have a good taste in waifus user. Listen to your heart and give Alita another watch.
Go and watch it. Then again you might end up committing a sudoku once you see the unconditional love of a cute cyborg on the big screen and compare it with your current GF who doesn't even want to watch a movie with you.
When you reply without arguments, all you do is validate the statements.
Connor Adams
I wish we got more comfy slice of life Alita adventures. Like, I could watch her just exploring the city and finding stuff like the crashed ship outside the walls for hours. I just want to see her get a happy ending in the movies and run a quiet coffee shop or something.
Benjamin Garcia
Think a Wednesday matinee in IMAX will be empty? I want Alita all to myself
Parker Cook
did you just google translate that?
Connor Robinson
>kills black guy >"another dead slave" Was Cameron foreshadowing Alita's nature as a space nazi?
No. I was really pleasantly surprised. Alita as a character was such a breath of fresh air compared to the female protagonists most action movies have.
That's a mango and mangoes are just a little fruity.

A serious drawback of the film, its length. It should be longer by an hour and include a scene with a cybernetic puppy. Otherwise, it is perfect.
Ian Hughes
I absolutely love how the cybernetic augment designs were simultaneously more sleek/refined and clunky and heavy as well, compared to the more medium of DX. It kind of put a timeline perspective in my mind.
Joshua Murphy
>black and white nah dude i don't watch anything more than a hundred years old lmao
William Morales
I need all the stories of anons taking parents and their reactions.
I showed my dad a review of the movie by Mother's Basement and he decided it looked good. I also told him how feminists hate the movie and he instantly knew it was because ugly fat chicks are jealous of how cute Alita is. I also saw Blade Runner 2049 with my dad, he's the only guy I know who I can really go see decent stuff with.

I felt like that before I saw the movie. After about 20 seconds of Alita on the screen and I didn't even think of her as looking off or made with CGI. Trust me they look great on her and only serve to enhance the expressiveness and cuteness. It was really a right design choice.
Hudson Brooks
If you kill a killer the number of killers in the world stays the same
Adrian Martinez
no, they're fucking awful. a genuinely baffling design choice, i find it so hard to believe anyone involved in the production could have been an actual fan of the source material but end up completely misinterpreting what was obviously a stylistic choice in the manga.
i doubt i'll ever think they're anything but terrible but as long as i can ignore them i don't really care.
