Because the work put into creating her character is top fucking notch, and you get over any hangups you had within the first 5 minutes of the film. Again, you're using "uncanny valley" wrong.

Because it helps overcome the uncanny valley. Eyes are the window to the soul they say because they are a large part of what we look at when looking at someone. By slightly enlarging the eyes the viewer will see the character as not "looking quite human" as opposed to having the eyes correctly proportioned which the viewer will see as "trying to look human." When the viewer thinks the eyes are "trying to look human" that can trigger the viewer to start looking for other defects. If the eyes are slightly enlarged the viewer will take in the character as not "looking not quite human" and they will write off looking for other defects. Besides being created an animated incredibly well Alita is still an animated character prone to the uncanny valley. Her enlarged eyes help viewers accept her though as right off the bat the viewers aren't trying to look for flaws as Alita isn't trying to look like an actual human. The effect works very well actually for Alita.

Stills do look uncanny, but in motion they work pretty well and you get used to them surprisingly fast.
Plus at the very least they gave them some sort of narrative justification since she is a combat cyborg and other urm cyborgs look like that as well. One may argue big eyes improve sight and provide some tactical advantage

I agree and disagree with you. The first time I saw the trailer I thought she looks wierd too. But then I still went to see the movie and it works perfectly, the whole setting is wierd, its cyberpunk and she is a cyborg, she is actually one of the least wierd individuals in that movie and thats like the whole point, thats its not about the looks, its about the soul. You have to watch it to appreciate it. So the way she looks is indeed bad for marketing but it perfect for the moive and the setting.
