How can jesus be christian and the king of jews?

RENT FREE

cross man bad!

oh shit

Because
1) Jesus was a Jew
2) He claimed to be the Jewish Messiah and the fulfiller of old testament prophecy
3) Christianity didn't become a separate thing from Judaism until really after Jesus' death.

>"It is almost one hundred years since Christian armies from Europe seized Jerusalem. Europe suffers in the grip of repression and poverty. Peasant and lord alike flee to the Holy Land in search of fortune or salvation. One Knight returns home in search of his son."

>late 12th century Europe
>poverty and repression

The 1180's were a fucking golden age in Europe. Wealth and education was flourishing, scribes and writers were popular, harvests were good and there was a burgeoning mercantile class.

Fuck Kingdom of Heaven. It could have told its story perfectly well without misrepresenting the time period and people.

the crusaders were absolute niggers

Attached: Saladin_fist.jpg (637x480, 35K)

Oh and the title of King of the Jews was one given to him in mockery, just before he was crucified by corrupt Jewish leaders.

>The Crusades were ultimately responsible for breaking the stranglehold Christianity had over Europe

Good job

Was he an Ashkenazi jew?

You know what's worse than a c*usader? a G*rman c*usader

Imagine getting into a war with orthodox slavs while ignoring the muslim golden khanate and still manages to lose to said slavs

SAD!

The crowning of Charlemagne laid the groundwork for that in fucking 800. It implicitly stated that there was a division between religious and temporal power and they had to negotiate with each other.

In Asia they just said their kings were themselves divine and therefore there was no reason to challenge anything.

Jesus?
No Ashkenazi Jews are European/Jewish mutts.

Imagine thinking muslims are worse than pagans.

>The 1180's were a fucking golden age in Europe
Um just no, user. There were no woke Netflix programs or progressive hashtags. Just a bunch of white people, yuck.

GOD WILLS IT!!!!!!!!

They are.

Muslims produced art and engineering and mathematics (which they mostly stole from Central Asia but still) and a stable empire and rape. Pagans just brought rape.

Attached: 1487066474870.jpg (264x205, 33K)

>Muslims produced art and engineering and mathematics
So did Pagans.
See Ancient greece, rome, egypt, or even Scandinavia.

>comparing the products of Egypt to Sc*ndies

Sailing a few dingy rafts across an icy puddle to a different useless patch of ground is nothing compared to the products of the Mediterranean.

And the term 'pagan' is meaningless for cultures that existed before christianity.

Attached: 1549915957740.jpg (3560x2382, 2.99M)

>we can't talk about the pagans that contradict by dumb world view
You're retarded. The boats built by the vikings were world class at the time, as was their skill for navigation and exploration. They built cities and towns all over Europe. They even founded the states that eventually became Russia.

Not entirely mocking. It is a title coming along with being messiah but only Mathew really gave a shit, because he was the one most interested in Jewish Christianity

Did Jesus look like this?

Paul seemed to be pretty interested

Man, Kingdom of Heaven had so much potential to be kino but squandered it all.

I still like it.

but they fought them several times?

Stupid boogieman poster

Best lines in the movie.

Well more Saul when he pre-conversion. What I meant was more what audience their writings were meant for
>Mark gives the sparknotes version, a quick and succinct read
>Mathew wants to connect Jesus to the Jewish messiah, prophecy, and patriarchs as much as possible
>Luke wrote for the Greeks and other gentiles. Sympathetic to Jews but they still rejected Jesus
>John written for the Gentiles and for John to get off of his chest how awesome Jesus was

The Knights of The Kingdom of Jerusalem and Pope Army =/= The Templars
Templars always ruining shit

>Well more Saul
that is what I meant I was just being pedantic

They say God Wills It, Muslims say Inshallah
potatoe tomato

Also basically happened irl, except of course it was balian who did it, on a side note why they didn't just have him take his fathers name and avoid years of retards posting
>but it was balian not his bastard son hurr durr

mashallah brother

not always, but that desert march is famously such a massive stupid fuck up, what the fuck were they thinking?

Man I used to love that movie as a kid, but now that I am grown up I am completely disgusted by the wishy-washy tolerance of that time period. Gimme a movie that takes place in the Reconquista and shows the Crusaders as good guys rather than that Assassin's Creed trash.

But the DC is kino, user

Reminder that it was Lithuanians and Poles betraying Christendom from within that caused the failure of the Northern Crusades.

When the mongols came Christian and Muslim stood side-by-side

>be the knights templar
>create a powerful army and banking system that literally out jews the most powerful countries of their era
>get wiped out because every other country was in dept fighting a worthless holy war and you were the last christians standing with cash

That's what I was thinking when I was watching kek

Das rite!

SEETHING

Christians are the real Jews.

>When the mongols came Christian and Muslim stood side-by-side
It was actually the other way around. Christians and Mongols actually tried to side with each other many times against the Muslims. Even King Louis IX, who was super-Catholic himself regarded the Mongols as friends. The reason this alliance never came into fruition was because the Mongols wanted the Christians to submit and the Crusaders wanted the Mongols to convert to Christianity. As a matter of fact, the biggest blow ever dealt to the Islamic world came from the Mongols, specifically the Nestorian Christian Hulegu Khan, who killed the caliph's entire family and took his only surviving daughter as an sex slave to his harem. Sure, the Mongols did convert to Islam later (with the exception of the Yuan Dynasty that was absorbed by the Chinese), but even after that, Muslims still hated the Mongols for what they did. One scholar who is a favorite of modern-day terrorists is Ibn Taymiyyah said jihad was alright against fellow Muslims because the Mongols weren't "real Muslims" - he did have some justification for this though since the Mongols follow the Yassa code established by Genghis Khan instead of sharia law and their policies of tolerance towards people of all religions were respected without imposing jizya tax.

You'd think that even after becoming Muslims, the Mongols would show mercy to their own people? Timur the Lame considered himself the Sword of Islam, and 95% of his victims were other Muslims.

But user, it's medieval times! That means everyone wears browns/beiges, the two professions are "knight" and "shit covered straw hut maintainer", the imports are dirt and the exports are mud.

lmao

Just watch Kingdom of Heaven. You'll discover that they weren't actually interested in God or religion or faith at all. In fact most of the Crusaders frowned on any kind of literal interpretation of the bible. They all just wanted land and gold, and used faith as a convenient excuse. The good ones who weren't greedy just wanted to pray and be nice to people, while the Templars were all evil psychopathic islamophobes and caused the war with Saladin that led to Jerusalem surrendering. By the way Saladin was a really good guy and let everyone in Jerusalem go home because he was tolerant and the muslims were multicultural like the Christians should have been. It was all really the Crusader's fault for not having modern 21st century social and moral values.

Is the director's cut really better?

DAILY REMINDER YOU CANT NOT DEUS VULT IF YOURE NOT CATHOLIC

Do Orthodox Christians have their own Deus Vult? I know Protestant Scots have "JESUS AND NO QUARTER"

You need to pick up a history book, /pol/tard.

Does it maintain the problems I said in

Fat lot of good it did them against the Turks, lol

>SILLLLLLLLENNNNNCCCCCCEEEEEE

that jeremy irons lip quiver as he yells it

Yes it's better.

Characters are actually focused on their own power struggles against each other and have more complete arcs, whereas before hand the lack of information and arcs makes them out to be charicatures who are only in jerusalem to steal from the middle east, as opposed to just being there and then navigating political intrigue.

Who you referred to?

>be forced to develop high level planning skills and high-trust society just to survive in your icy hellhole

>watching
>getting your historical information from KoH
Lad it was a fun movie but good god don't go looking for historical accuracy from it. Especially when the actual accounts are even more dramatic than Orlando Bloom drama.

Raynald was not nor never was a Templar, which is part of the reason you don't watch fucking blockbusters for history. The Templar grandmaster, Gerard of Rideford, was not native to the region and was shipped in. At the war council over the decision, he harbored a not-so-secret grudge against Raymond of Tripoli, a man who had taken an arranged marriage and sold his fiancee to a higher bidder from a merchant. In a rage and aftermath, he joined the Templars and had personal merit enough to rise in the rank. But from that moment nwards Gerard on his personal fury and biases just opposed Raymond on everything, regardless of logic or reason, even marching in the desert to meet Saladin in battle was good if it meant spiting Raymond.

Templars like any force were spectacular when lead well, pulling off magnificent victories such as Manzikert when they were lead by a guy who knew the region, and like any army imploded when under emotion blinded men putting pride into their politics and judgement.

>In fact most of the Crusaders frowned on any kind of literal interpretation of the bible.

Yeah all Christians did so before Americans fucked everything up with their retarded Evangelicalism. The precedent for Christians NOT taking the bible literally has been around before the New Testament was even codified. Augustine of Hippo said it was a stupid idea in the fourth century, he specifically rejected a literal reading of the Genesis account(s) of creation even. And Orgien rejected a literal interpretation a century earlier.

>most left after the crusade ended with the Battle of Ascalon, before they could carve out spoils
>they did their duty and left
>get pictured as greedy and evil

>outremer and the wider Middle East was an absolute clusterfuck of Christians and Muslims states allying and breaking alliances on the fly depending on who had pissed off who and who thought they had been cheated/broke promises
>conflict boiled and flanderized to MUH CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS
What other bullshit cliches do we deal with in Crusader pop culture?

This. Most nobles were left broke or killed. There was no profit in the crusades apart from retaking symbolic stolen land.

Most had to sell their estate and all possessions just to make the journey, there were many who left armed and mounted a a knight but by the time they came to their destination were walking ragged and barefoot.

heh, that's what you think

This really is no joke. Look at the Basque Witch Trials and compare it to any modern witch trial ever.
Basque:
>largest scale witch trial in the world
>ran by the infamous Spanish Inquisiton
>roughly 7000 cases examined by the inquisition
>came to the general view that this was entirely crazy, ignorant peasants who are self-deluding
>only 11 die due to it all - 6 from heresy executions and 5 died in prison

Thanks for the insightful post. I get a little too comfortable with history
one of my best subjects but I forget, overlook or might not know some things :)

The Director's Cut fixes nothing. The movie is hot garbage. Ridley Scott can't create epics but he keeps trying.

It's cool user, history is amazing but sources and analyses lie and misrepresent enough even with modern historians who should at least pretend to be impartial. Films have to make many cuts in order to fit things and make things succinct, even without suspecting foul play or politics in the director and editing, they might be great to inspire pictures but always always double check any historical information you have that came from a film first.

>thou shall not k-

Is Knightfall any good? I was surprised by how decent The Last Kingdom was for a 201X BBC production and I feel like another period piece

Paganism predates Christianity

Retarded nigger

Muslims stole most of their stuff from pagan cultures. Most of the traditions of the abrahamic religions derive from pagan times. Catholicism is nothing but Judaism for Pagans with all the worshipping of hundreds of demigods called "saints"

>Northern Crusades
>Failure
IIRC they were pretty successful in turning Pagans into Catholics. They were only a failure in bringing the Russians into the Orthodox fold.

*They were only a failure in bringing the Orthodox Russians into the Catholic fold.
Fuck its late and I am tired.

That was only because protestants fucked the church up, the Spanish Inquisition was literally against witch burnings while churches that branched off in other countries did what they pleased.

Unlike what Hollywood historians want you to think, the church wasn't a big bad authoritarian state that oppressed everyone, they're just spouting protestanist propaganda.

>when you live in a country so cold you can literally have your own fanfiction version of christianity with your own headcanon and OC saints and call it ''Orthodox Catholicism''
