I watched 1-7 at once and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The acting, cinematography, and direction are really good, even better than season 1. However, the plot kinda dragged toward the end.
I'd say you should catch up, watch the finale, and form your own opinion.

Why is Hayes more haunted in his old age by a simple missing persons case than a war with over a MILLION dead? From the first episode we know he was in a combat role and we know he saw his friends get fucked up.

I would be whatever is haunting him (the cause of his dementia) is going to be revealed this episode as him being forced to watch Amelia and his daughter get raped and killed in front of him or he is forced into some sort of sophie's choice scenario where Amelia kills herself after seeing her daughter be sacrificed by purple to save Amelia.
