/wes/ Western General

Which is the best John Wayne flick? Is it possible for a man to defend himself from beyond the grave? Will he ever have his Red Dead Redemption 2?

his best movie is Red River by a country mile, based Howard Hawks

I'm john wayne pilgram

Lol what the fuck? Defend what? He had clear racist views and there’s nothing he could say to counter that.

The Searchers is his best but he’s not really known for being in great Westerns. It’s like asking which was the best capeshit that Chris Evans was in

What are some Westerns with religious protagonists?

Pale Rider

True Grit

He thought his best films were Stagecoach, Red River, The Searchers, The Quiet Man, and The Long Voyage Home.

He was just asking for two fags in Britain, he wanted to smoke

The cowboys

nah son. probably not even a top five role for the duke

Best movie is The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Although, his best role is unironically Ryan Stiles doing a John Wayne impression on Whose Line Is It Anyway

wrong

>Best movie overall:
The Searchers
>Best performance:
Red River

He literally said nothing wrong.

John Wayne was born in 1907. At the time of the interview, homosexuality was viewed as both a mental illness and a crime. He is dead now. Also, the Spartans were pretty bad.

McClintock

Someone born in 1907 was not %100 tolerant of blacks and homosexuals, what no way!?!?!

He hated the idea of handouts and affirmative action.

The one where he goes to the dentist.

Funny how The Searchers is now shown in film courses. At least it was when I took a film analysis class for my "art" credit.

For me its TGTBATU, The best western ever made

Not a John Wayne film, but he did have praise for Clint Eastwood--aside from High Plains Drifter.

It is time for feasting and MUCH rejoicing!

That stew looked tasty

I always get hungry when I watch that scene. Not even sure what the fuck that is. Pineapple stew? But in that fucking desert it must be the best meal ever.

First off, as a western and just plain film fan, I'm surprised I've only seen six of his films. Not that I'm a huge fan or anything. Anyway, picture related.

Also on my watchlist:
North to Alaska (1960)
The Shootist (1976)
Stagecoach (1939)
Rio Bravo (1959)

El Dorado > Rio Bravo

Prove me wrong.

What a monster!

Stagecoach is his best. I am not much of a fan of 'the Duke'. Not because he was a racist, a lot, maybe even most, of people were when he was born. I don't like the way that he bitched and moaned as the genre changed around him. He couldn't picture a world where things weren't black and white, the grimiest he would play was being a drunk. He took the teeth out of Rooster Cogburn and won an oscar for it.

Eastwood>Wayne

He defends himself fine. If you look at the full quotes and not the twitter edits, he always sounds more reasonable than the retards attacking him.

>Very few of the so-called liberals are open-minded.... They shout you down and won't let you speak if you disagree with them.

>With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.

> In the late Twenties, when I was a sophomore at USC, I was a socialist myself—but not when I left. The average college kid idealistically wishes everybody could have ice cream and cake for every meal. But as he gets older and gives more thought to his and his fellow man's responsibilities, he finds that it can't work out that way—that some people just won't carry their load ... I believe in welfare—a welfare work program. I don't think a fella should be able to sit on his backside and receive welfare. I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living. I'd like to know why they make excuses for cowards who spit in the faces of the police and then run behind the judicial sob sisters. I can't understand these people who carry placards to save the life of some criminal, yet have no thought for the innocent victim.

>I have found a certain type calls himself a Liberal...Now I always thought I was a Liberal. I came up terribly surprised one time when I found out that I was a Right-Wing Conservative Extremist, when I listened to everybody's point of view that I ever met, and then decided how I should feel. But this so-called new Liberal group, Jesus, they never listen to your point of view.

What is the best looking version of this to watch?
