2006:
Jala and co. venture to the resting spot of the Kanohi Ignika, the mask of life, to revive Mata Nui. The six Matoran are transformed into Toa by the red star and rescue the Toa Nuva and defeat the Piraka. Descending into the depths of Voya Nui, they locate Kanohi Ignika with the intention of returning to Metru Nui. However, the Ignika has a will of its own and rockets into the depths of the ocean below the Island Voya Nui.
2007:
Chasing after, it is revealed reviving Mata Nui could potentially destroy the Matoran living in The Pit. A prison for the deadliest beings of the Matoran Universe, the Toa Inika are transformed once more into Toa Mahri, and fight off hoards of mutant escaped prisoners to re-obtain the mask and save the universe before all time runs out.
Successful, one of the Toa must sacrifice themselves in order to use the mask. Mata Nui saved, he must now be reawakened.
2008:
The Toa Nuva, freed from the Piraka and equipped with new adaptive armor from Artahka, travel to the core of the Universe to awaken the great spirit. The Brotherhood of the Makuta is already one step ahead of them and battles erupt all throughout Karda Nui.
With the help of a Toa of Light, the Toa Nuva are victorious and escape to Metru Nui to aid in the Destiny War. With the Brotherhood of Makuta defeated and Mata Nui awakening, it seems the Matoran Universe is finally safe.
2009:
Makuta Teridax' master plan comes to fruition. Evicting Mata Nui's spirit from his body, Teridax is able to seize total control of the Matoran Universe. With only a few dozen Toa still left free, all seems lost.
