This is thread for general discussion of Alita: Battle Angel. Post and discuss your thoughts on the movie, pics/gifs/webms related and relevant info/rumors/news.
So why didn't the urm just destroy the spire to collapse the whole city? What's the point in running up the tubes from ground level? Why was Alita's squad even on ground level?
Chase Williams
i mean if you want us to spread the word all over Yea Forums i guess we can instead of containing things here
Jordan Foster
>he doesn't know about takokuchi user-kun, it's part of her character.....
Why are brazilians and russians so alike? They live in completely different parts of the world, completely different cultures yet act almost the same way.
Jordan Thomas
There needs to be a way for the audience to rate critics.
Alita's surviving replicas developing their own personalities that are radically different from hers (despite starting as complete 1:1 copies) is one of the few actual cool scifi ideas in Last Order.
Kayden Wright
>That part where Nova creates an invincible mecha to defend his daughteru from Kaos >That part where he makes the ultimate sacrifice by accepting to give Alita a spoonful of flan. Cameron needs to bring this to life : it will transcend kino.
Thst moment when Hugo wakes up and she is sitting on his window is great, her outfit was top cute/sexy. It's adorable coz you know she is trying to look more human for him and therefore starts using eyeliner and cute clothes. Alita is an angel!
Jayden Young
I eagerly await the polite, high quality discourse we'll get if Sechs ever makes it into a movie.
Hunter Bailey
*ahem* fuck this frail, crazed world and fuck the second law of thermodynamics
sorry I can only talk in memes
Adrian Rogers
Wait...Alita hasn't released in Brazil, and russia yet?
Lucas Hill
...
Henry Long
>Does it bother you, that I'm not completely human?
So wait a minute, am I to understand that the city isn't being propped up, but being dangled? Also does that mean Nova isn't nearly as powerful as he's suggested to be? Did the URM know about this or did it come after the war?
Tyler Diaz
Yeah, given the political situation in the current year, Sechs might be a tricky character to add. personally, I'd want femSechs to appear alongside other Alita Replicas in the third movie. AR-2 and AR-10, the only two replicas to appear in the original manga, weren't even real characters. As such, they can get shelved without it being a big loss, as long as the alita replcias remain a thing we see in the movie.
It was tethered to the ground with a column below as well, connected to another city up top which caused the equalization between forces of gravity and centrifugal force. The pipes keep it tethered on the ground I assume, otherwise it would fly off and break into a bunch of messy pieces.
I've read the manga (both original and LO) and it kinda blows. There's some pretty imaginative and unique imagery here and there but the story is meandering and unfocused and the whole thing feels wildly derivative for when it came out, and just when it seems like it wants to go for some clever idea it ruins it with 80s B-movie grotesque that's inserted for funsies rather than making a point. It's really no wonder Gally is a niche girl wonder, not a widespread hit.
Jose Wilson
After seeing the movie my wife said she wants that mushroom plushie.
Landon Davis
The old Viz translation has its charms but the muddy scans are really no way to appreciate Yukito's linework
Cameron Thompson
what if i told you there are more than just 1 elevator?
>that geographical breakdown The USA really is a nigger country.
Parker Sullivan
So Grewishka's line makes more sense. How many cities are there? Also this was around during the URM war right? Does Zolem have the same view of the city above them that iron city has of Zolem?
Jazz Alita is cute! A CUTE! No, but seriously, I really, really want more of this.
Connor Hill
i bet you that 95% of the audience thinks its some form of gravity engine
Chase Ross
>"No, something better. Engineering." Considering all the other religious themes in the film, this was another shot at the concept of religion.
Michael Butler
it used to be tied to the ground with a column so you could actually go up the elevator from the ground the tubes are slacking as well, in the manga at least they are used to send goods up to tiphares from the factories below, the city is quite reliant on the surface
Cooper Cox
How does Salem stay up?
Aiden Green
Let them. This is the sort of universe that has way more lore in it than it actually needs to make its point.
Joshua Turner
Is Last Order worth reading? I hear it gets CUHRAZY.
What I thought, or that the tubes doubled as strong foundations.
Ryder Thompson
i almost do not want to spoil it
Jace Wilson
it's a space elevator left over from a more forward-thinking era, it uses an orbital ring and a sister city in space to hang down via centrifugal force
Tyler Fisher
Goddamn, look at how toned that ass is. Fuck that's hot. Unf.
Noah Roberts
Sounds like you couldn't keep up with it. Maybe Naruto is more suitable for you.
Yeap, have more or less same opinion here. The artstyle is great and some concepts are really cool but as far as writing goes the manga is pretty retarded.
Andrew Torres
It's Dune with cyborgs, vampires, clones and martials arts tournaments.
>it has a fucking nanomachine monster from mercury that has a giant dick that cums energy blasts for fucks sake Ask me how I know you're not from around here.
Austin Russell
There is the scrapyard (iron city in the movie), then Zalem. Above it is Jeru, which together with some space stations and the colonies on the moon form the Orbitarian Federation. They're mainly brainwashed space niggers and host Ladder, which is basically space-UN.
Then you have four other planets with intelligent life : - Mercury, which is populated by nanomachines released centuries ago by a mad scientist, destroying everything on the planet. The nanomachines have evolved and in Last Order, they attempt to communicate with mankind by sending a nanomachine monster with a huge dick to participate in a martial arts tournament. - Venus, which is populated by decadent cannibal French people with a fetish for genetic manipulations - Mars, which is populated by Germans who have been at war with themselves for 300 years. The best candidate to unite the nation is a teenager ventriloquist queen who is never seen without her teddy bear. - Jupiter, which is a totalitarian state populated by Russian cyborgs with a hardon for nanotechnology
In short, the solar system is one giant shithole.
Anthony Johnson
>general Holy shit this 6/10 flick is too overrated here
Josiah Myers
Every page, including the one with explosive farts.
>In short, the solar system is one giant shithole. wew lad, we're approaching 40K levels of grimdark here. Not quite as bad, but I would say getting there.
Cameron should personally direct the next one so we can achieve box-office enough for the whole cinematic universe.
Tyler Watson
Fuck, I can't wait for the BD. This is an unbelievably perfect shot for a wallpaper. My most favorite shot in the whole movie in terms of scenery.
William Davis
Alita running and jumping on rooftops in her new body gives me the biggest heart boner.
Wyatt Myers
>just when it seems like it wants to go for some clever idea it ruins it with 80s B-movie grotesque that's inserted for funsies rather than making a point
Rest of your post is opinions and you can have them but I have to protest this one. The gore, disgusting mutants, body horror etc. is not there for "funsies", it's very much there to make a point. The point is that this is not a nice world. This is a world where almost nobody who lives there actually wants to be a part of it. It sets the tone and the tone stays consistent throughout the whole series.
a hacker (who becomes a side character) released immortality nanotech into the public 200 years ago, so nobody ages. This means children are illegal and killed, recruited as child soldiers or eaten.
Ryder Hernandez
she's hot
Owen Perez
Kek that sounds fucking amazing, but is it really hard to balance out all these factions in the stories?
Brayden Lee
A futile attempt to look as cute as Alita. You should still get her one
Wyatt Watson
>entering a disney shill thread.jpg
Landon Bennett
Her outfits were really well designed in the movie.
William Bailey
its an extremely divided society, where the strong a gods and the weak are worth less than nothing
Ok this is a really cool fucking concept. So basically Iron city is similar to a tribe in the amazon that has no contact with the modern world.
Levi Rodriguez
Basically yeah. Iron City and the rest of Earth surface is centuries behind in technology to the rest of the solar system, and most people don't even know there ARE any space colonies.
Lincoln Sanders
the have contact with Zalem, which is city sized eugenics facility
Dylan Perry
Last order only deals with a big amrtial arts tournament, so we mainly see these factions through the participants they sent to fight in the contest. And then, there are also space karatekas.
I have to agree. Marathoned both the original run and last order and I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed. I heard the Kodansha translation sucks but I'm not sure if that was enough to save the overall story had I read the Viz translation. Ido marrying a loli...commiting seppuku and forgetting Alita for instance was way out of character especially now with the movie canon. Just a lot of bs character and plot threads in general. I think more so at this point I'm more in love with movie incarnation of Alita that I really do want to see more of her. If the trilogy gets made, I have no doubt it will be one of the rare occasions where the adaptation is better than the original work
Carson Morgan
>and his entire family user...
Andrew Murphy
Nova = Trump
Gabriel Phillips
>Could anyone truly take this penis- no, reality into themselves?
Nah, and honestly I get a lot of anti-zionism vibes from the film. Not because of Cameron but because they stick with the source material which is Japanese. So I might be right in my assessment.
Her berzerker body is still super high tech, even 200 years (300 in the movie) after her "death" during the war. Civilization has largely stagnated since the war.
I saw Alita and found it nice. Didn't much more of it. But those threads are lovely. They are positive. They are "fren" threads, but with some OC instead of just Pepe.
Right I was assuming load bearing rather than anchors.
Joseph Evans
He doesn't have a wife (nor children) in the manga. Alita was named after his cat.
Aaron Carter
No. It's literally Naruto and Dragonball Z shit
Andrew Evans
No and yes depending of which body we're talking about. Berzerker body isn't actually particularly special in the systemwide level. The latest and greatest body she has is unique tech designed specifically for her by SPOILERS and it might actually be the fanciest thing that exists, or it might not. It's unclear.
IIRC Chiren was featured in the OVA. I think the daughter is new tho.
Dylan Jackson
the berserker body is classed as a terror weapon and banned since 200 years ago, but it's never shown to be especially impressive compared to what they had in space (although for being 200 years old it's not too shabby). Main problem it has is that they've developed nanomachines that can instantly kill them.
State of the art war machines these days are more along the lines of "we built a robot that can convert 99.8% of an enemy kinetic impact into energy and also has a direct quantum teleportation link to the incomplete dyson sphere surrounding jupiter which allows it to shit out nuclear bomb tier energy as a focused beam every second"
Oh. I bet Alita defeats that with the power of friendship though, right?
Evan Morgan
>Were they really the good guys
Hahaha, fuck no, martians are absolute fucking assholes. Then again so are earthlings.
Josiah Myers
>Were they really the good guys as was hinted at in the movie? Protip: nobody is "the good guys" in this setting.
Jeremiah Campbell
waltz is daddy af. they could not NOT take this opportunity
Joseph Garcia
There no good guys or bad guys. It's not shonenshit.
Connor Adams
>people aren't allowed to post more then three times in a thread while having a discussion
Elijah Harris
nah, nanomachines son as you might guess last order hits a bit of power creep towards the end
Michael Sanchez
>10 Captain Marvel threads up
Carson Ward
>good guys the alita we know from the movie is not the same as the warrior who fought in the terraforming wars, ready to do anything it takes to achieve her goal
even if it means genocide on an unrivaled scale
Parker Hall
Holy shit they have a Dyson sphere in the manga? Going to have to read it now.
Wyatt Bennett
URM did nothing wrong such high morals and skill, clearly they should have defeated their enemies.
Gavin Taylor
>average about 4 posts each It's almost as if people are having conversations.
yes, although I'm not sure what the point is in having one surrounding jupiter instead of a star, aside from more lebensraum than you could ever need
William Evans
Is there a role in the next film Tom Cruise would fit in? I feel like this franchise is one he would enjoy being in,
Luke Price
its like 6 fags spamming and a couple dozen others posting once and you know it
Joseph Cruz
Is last order just a tournament arc? Kinda killed my hype for it
Hunter Gonzalez
>living rent free in your head
Christian Cruz
so uh who won the war and who is the current power in the solar system? Earth seems pretty much totally defeated.
Jason Price
I think they made that change because Waltz is significantly older than Ido was in the manga. Probably the same reason they nixed the romance hints between Alita and Ido - it would get a bit creepy for normies if a 50-year-old guy was romantically involved with a teen. Ido in the manga is like late 20's - early 30's so it makes a lot more sense that he's a perma-bachelor.
Joshua Walker
No manlets, sorry.
Mason Hughes
They would have, they were betrayed.
Thomas Fisher
Sounds like it's total shit, and everyone in the solar system is disjointed from eachother. Probably not in the position to launch an attack on eachother if they wanted to.
David Gonzalez
Turned off your tripcode this time I see.
Justin Morgan
>Kinda killed my hype It killed everybody's hype. I dropped it when the vampires appeared. Might pick up it again, now that its complete.
BAA:LO has 126 chapters. the ZOT tournament begins in chapter 25 and ends in chapter 106. So yeah, pretty much. The pre-ZOTT chapters are about Alita's brief passage through Zalem, and the post-ZOTT chapters are a pure kino arc centered around Figure Four and Ido.
Carter Rodriguez
>so uh who won the war No one really.
>who is the current power in the solar system? A bunch of competing colonies that hate each other and are fucked up in their own ways. Ladder (space U.N.) headed by Supernegro von Wakanda is nominally in charge since his faction represents old Earth's authority, but like the real U.N., he's actually much less important and powerful than he thinks he is. There's kind of a cold war between all of the powers.
Tyler Gutierrez
oh they have 1-15 thousand years to go if we're going by the warhammer timeline. "Age of Terra - Humanity dominates Earth. Civilizations come and go. The Solar System is colonized. Mankind lives on Mars and the moons of Jupiter Saturn and Neptune."
Parker Jackson
It was a fun movie and people liked it, even hardcore fans of the manga/ova.
Yeah, it would be fun to headcanon this taking place shortly before the Dark Age of Technology. Basically right before (relatively speaking) leaving the solar system and colonizing the galaxy.
Matthew Wright
It's confirmed for reylo/who all over again
Robert Cook
Imagine fans originally enduring ten years of this shit. Started off so promising as well
Camden Morales
venus and jupiter are the two superpowers, mars is in constant civil war, earth orbit is weak as fuck with a diplomatic role, earth surface is the backwaterest backwater, the other planets aren't really populated but there are plenty of minor space colonies everywhere
Juan Kelly
>Is last order just a tournament arc? Kinda killed my hype for it
Last Order is unironically bad, and I say this as a guy who regards the original series as a 9.9/10. Most of it is literally wasted on a shounen fight tournament that doesn't matter. You should not have hype for LO.
The good parts of LO are that it expands the world a lot, adds more backstory to Alita and there are some individual good scenes and characters, but you're really not losing anything of great value if you just pretend the original series is all that exists.
Julian Sullivan
And just like the difference between Wakanda and real Africa, people in-universe mainly know Mbadi because a ton of bluepilled fiction was made about him.
Don't listen to these fucking normalfags, LO shits on the second half of the original manga (which is where it went to utter garbage and why LO even exists in the first place). The fucking ZOTT arc was godlike as are most of the characters like Sechs and Zekka.
Like 2 and a half. It's more of an adaptation of the OVA than the manga, with motorball from the first comic and some tidbits from LO thrown in.
Andrew Murphy
comfy
Oliver Sullivan
>which is where it went to utter garbage the second half is literally everything from berserker zapan, so fuck off
Luke Sanders
No. Tom Cruise doesn't star in films he's not the main star.
Nathan Sanders
>ZOTT arc was godlike
I cannot imagine the level of shit taste you're on right now.
Austin Myers
I mean you have anywhere from today to M30 to snugly fit your headcanon and 30/40k is already fucking insane so having some Alita tech being forgotten Dark Age tech would be completely fine.
The dick jokes were the best part about Sechs being an FtM tranny. I also remember that one time when he's given up on using his cannon, then someone sees him naked and says "Oh, you still have a cannon after all!".
Brayden Cox
First two with a little sample of the third thrown in (motorball).
Charles Jenkins
I wanna fuck her robot puci
Josiah Anderson
True. That's why I love 40k, for it's simply sheer versatility in fiction. It was a good invention making a timeline so vast instead of containing it so narrowly like many other science fiction universes.
Josiah Cooper
>General - #37 So, we liked it?
Ryder Cooper
>not liking battle tournaments Gee wiz I bet you've had sex, too you fucking faggot
Luis Cooper
To be fair to M'badi, I actually think he's kind of a cool character as a side villain. He has understandable motivations, human flaws and attacks Alita from a brand new direction that she isn't prepared for. His main sin is that he's in LO.
However it's a lot more interesting than Dragonball Z from a philosophical and narrative perspective. It's about 75% romance-free soap opera and world-building, 17% philosophical exposition during HRRRRRRRRRR charging up scenes, and 8% fighting.
I think she's realized it. That's why she ended up dividing herself between a fully human alita who's going to live a comfy life with her husbando and a fully metal alita who's there to suffer and get her butt groped by an undead lesbian from Mars.
Owen Cook
her brain is organic. she can give consent it's 2019 guys
Dylan Foster
No, but according to mouseniggers the marketing budget was twice its production budget.
