i didnt quite care for it too much because the original aesthetic was gone. its a pure 90s theme that they tried stuffing into modern times. plus, rita wasnt interesting and a bit too demonic. like, there was no reason she shouldnt/couldnt have just killed all the kids immediately.

The movie went through several different pitches before they settled on the last one. It's part of the reason why it ended up being so costly.

Goldar was a disappointment for sure. Overall I still thought the movie was ok, though I am much more excited to see what Hasbro is going to do. The Bumblebee reboot actually made Transformers watchable so I'm hoping they can do the same with Power Rangers.

The CG sucks. The character stuff was the only good thing about the movie, surprisingly.
If they had just used guys in suits and cardboard box giant monsters the budget would've been kept in under 50 mil and it would've been a massive success.

It was a success because of the small budget. Hasbro announced it as the reboot of the franchise and both audiences and critics loved it for the first time. Not everything has to make 1 billion. The G1 designs and story helped it too. Hasbro worked hard on it.

The garbage aesthetics absolutely didn't help it, I don't think. They had a good chance to update that somewhat unique Japanese sentai aesthetic on a grand scale and instead made something that looked like the worst bits of Iron Man 3 and Transformers 2 had a baby.

I get so mad looking at this stuff compared to the work of Japanese mech designers, and especially compared to 80's Western design gods like Ron Cobb and Syd Mead. They could all design stuff that looked, and in many cases was, mechanically sound. All this stuff is unworkable garbage only the most braindead idiot would find visually impressive.

If you have to restart then set it in the 90's. 1993-4 to be exact. Make some modifications but keep it authentic to the original series. Bring in Bulk and Skull and give martial arts more of a focus. Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Street Fighter were big at the time. Tone needs to be like Aquaman but really just watch the original MMPR series/film for inspo. Include some of the original cast in cameos. Jason needs to be a strong leader with Tommy taking over in the 3rd film. They need to be a team. Keep sjw shit out of these films, or at least keep it subtle with good writing.
