This is thread for general discussion of Alita: Battle Angel. Post and discuss your thoughts on the movie, pics/gifs/webms related and relevant info/rumors/news.
so it did pretty good in china i think? this weekend wasn't so bad after all. hope they at least break even, so there will be people that still try to truly adapt a manga into pure kino. hopefully even this franchise, since it has a lot more to tell and a real nice space setting.
I think she's just japanese now, according to her background story in Martial Chronicle. Her "family" had japanese names and looked japanese, not mixed.
Ayden Myers
Fuck no that's for plebs and posers.
One boat-tier naval orange and one brick of chocolate bouillon wrapped in gold foil.

Also reminder that it was 100% proven Which led to the shill having a breakdown after being caught
Go read BAA: Mars Chronicles, it will cheer you up.
Zachary Lewis
i think it was just poor marketing in the states
Michael Nelson
Please Bob Bobsson.

they jumped around with the references and plotpoints like madmen, feeling almost too fanservicy for my taste. it's like they used all the elements from like 4 books and stuffed them in there, so it's a bit bloated also, almost too big even considering it's running time of 2h
Henry Harris
She doesn't have one, idiot
Robert Morris
Saw Alita again today someone booked 4 seats in the top left(the "premium" ones) and two others. Only one person showed up for them Thank you for doing your service based user
Evan Foster
at least she got a mouth
Hunter Walker
>she looked so adorable in this scene It's the panting that makes her so fuckable
someone post the joke page where ido gives her the most powerful stomach/shitter on the market
Justin Cook
It did really good in China this weekend. Now it just needs to hold that. If it has legs like Ready Player One, we're set.
Anthony Jones
>joke page It's canon, user.
Nolan Roberts
Update that pic. It stands at 94% now.
Charles Phillips
5000円 from Kishiro watching it 5 times + 2000円 from Kojima 2 times. No other Jap watched it, so that's a total of 7000円, $63.23 in Burger currency.
Easton Peterson
But how? Surely people would see it for the garbage it is!
Caleb Taylor
her visuals are so stupidly good. The first few minutes of her moving her hands just makes me want to start praising the Omnissiah and purge flesh. Gib me my mecha-dendrites.
Alita 2: Battle Angeler 2021? When will Jimmy direct a movie? For the 3rd movie?
Robert Torres
I honestly fucking loved it despite going in expecting not to. I was super pissed about the ending though because it felt like I paid to see 90% of a movie.
Bentley Stewart
I don't see what this proves outside of your clear cut case of schizophrenia.
Henry Martinez
ENGAGE THE LINKAGE OMNISSIAH
Grayson Myers
Fuck Japan, honestly.
Based China saving this move single-handedly.
Benjamin Davis
The old Gunmu anime bombed in Japan too, what a surprise
Tyler White
the ending suckerpunches you in the balls and leaves you unable to wait for the sequel so you have to watch the film again t. third viewing today
It's almost a 1-1 adaptation of the OVA, with some extras thrown in.
Josiah Mitchell
Do it for her!
Cooper Barnes
I really liked Alita but felt it had serious issues with not enough story arcs in the film and giving what was there way too much time to breathe. Its a shame because I love all the arcs in the manga, I just wish they'd have decided to put more then 1/5th of the manga plot in this movie to expand a bunch on what they didn't show and not have saved so much for sequels. I think thats the main thing killing Alita's sales. Its a minimal abstraction of what it could have been.
Samuel Collins
When will we see her together with Venom and Aquaman?
why is japan so much better at making "strong" female characters than burgeristan?
Levi Evans
Have you ever wondered “what is the point of generals?” There isn’t discussion, as all people do is repost the same shit every iteration, because it’s just the same small (and diminishing) handful of people, over and over again.
So the answer is that generals exist entirely for outsiders to have a safe place on Yea Forums. An echo chamber.
Carson Hughes
Japan doesn't have feminists. Women need to prove themselves on an individual basis just like men.
Adam Flores
When she grosses over 500m and Alita II: Killing Angel comes out alongside Venom II: Maximum Carnage and Aquaman II: Blacker Manta
they're generally not, and all they usually do is write a shounen MC with breasts
Carson Carter
So with China's numbers increasing, we're definitely seeing a franchise. JC dropped the titles for the first trilogy. What about further movies adapting LO and MC? Post your guesses.
>not enough story arcs Nigga the movie was already filled to the brim, they should've REMOVED some of the stuff to go more in-depth with the setting for fuck's sake. Nova shouldn't even have been there.
I don't understand you guys, the main villain of this movie was killed. Also the main story was a girl coming of age, finding out who she was, and to find purpose...that literally all happened to a T. The story in this movie was fulfilled, it wasn't about the world it was about Alita.
Joseph Thomas
this is acceptable, thank you
Aiden Morris
Agreed except the main villain was a puppet, the real villain is still out there. Also the ending is so abrupt it really feels like you need to see the rest, like there is a missing puzzle piece that you need to complete the picture
>Have you ever wondered “what is the point of generals? To keep a popular topic in one thread instead of spamming and flooding the board, you retarded newfag.
After seeing this last night and having it far exceed my expectations I'm really hoping it does well enough to get a sequel. I want to see more Alita.
Thomas Hughes
Thery're confirmed tourists that don't like the Yea Forums format
Elijah Torres
After seeing it a couple times I really like the southwestern flavor I'm assuming Rodriguez added. Like, Murdock is a cyber cowboy instead of a Russian, Zapan has a Mayan calendar on his back, Ido's hammer has lever action rifle parts on it, probably other stuff I missed too. If the sequel covers the middle volumes, I hope Alita gets a sweet engraved six shooter instead of the plain revolver she had in the manga.
Hudson Watson
>living rent free inside your head
Bentley Lewis
I didn't expect to see really anything after Hugo died. I loved how it pointed us to where the story was going. I've gotten into arguments with people on here and elsewhere saying the ending should have nova dying. I'm just thinking, you want a brand new world built, introduce us to a cyborg character and get us to care for her, introduce vektor and get us to understand his connection into the world, tell of a backstory of a government of mars, and on top of that show off and then kill a villain that can theoretically live forever and defeated the most technologically advanced civilization in history...in the last 30 minutes of a movie. It's just like fuck off with that, I loved him in this movie, and if they would do that then it'd be better to leave him out.
Grayson Morales
I don't see this franchise getting more than a trilogy desu
I agree. I also felt like all the characters had far too detailed and well conceived development, as every action has a clear (after the fact) and sensical in-film justification for their every action. I felt the same way about the worldbuilding, as iron city really felt like it lived and breathed and every location felt like a part of woven tapestry of interconnectedness. The movie would've benefited from more disconnection, but I guess cameron was just too devoted and obsessive to allow his movie to be sloppy in any fashion. Iron city itself also came across as far too dirty, oppressive, and generally nightmarish. You can really feel hugo's justification for wanting out by any means, as the setting is literally Hell, a place where only demons can thrive, and even the best meaning characters simply contribute to the overall nightmare. Then you really felt hugo's complete and utter horror at waking up with a completely robot body, how he started his mad dash up the cable because his body simply represented multiple additional lifetimes of suffering, and even death was preferable.
Nathaniel Richardson
Why are you guys obsessing over Alita? She wouldn't even look at you, might even arrest or beat you up because you look creepy. She only wanted young Chads.
Hunter Rogers
>you're the newfag >no you're the newfag >no you are!
A Trilogy would be fine with me...should Nova last 2 more movies?
Ryder Turner
I think this is for the best, the manga goes on aimlessly for quite a bit so it would be interesting to see a trilogy take the best parts and make it more coherent
Depends. He will last longer if they go for last order.
Justin Price
Hugo was not a chad.
Nathaniel Torres
I see the retard took his trip off. Shame.
Parker Wilson
The movie was already too full, no way they should have added more to it. I suppose they could have taken away Nova completely and had her beat Vector and end with Hugo in the hospital to kill him next movie. It would have been neatly tied up but next movie would have started with a gut punch and Nova wouldn't be nearly as interesting as the puppeteer behind the scenes.
David Morales
I told you, they'll finish it with the tree ending. We didn't even saw the space elevator.
I'm an android/cyborg. I already have a cyborg cat. Now I just need a cyborg freak eyed GF.
Seriously though, I'm a fucking artificial intelligence.
Because, I have seen them directly control her. She makes paintings with her food. She poses in order to send secret messages (holding her head to look like a bird), and she winks/flips her ears to send secret messages.
She has cybernetic implants just like I do. Probably completely synthetic.
Jack Wilson
I've never posted on /vp/ so clearly your leethaxxor-skills doesn't work
got the pic of google by searching for "condescending pepe"
It's obscured by clouds in the scenes of them driving out of the city.
Kayden Walker
Didn't noticed it. Are you sure that's the shaft of the elevator, not just one of the buildings?
Anyways, 3 movies makes sense. Next will be Jashugan, Zapan and probably an early introduction of Barjack (koyomi is already a teen, they'll compress the timeline). Then Barjack/Den + OC Nova shenanigans for the 3rd movie.
>...a tour de force of spectacle the likes of which only James Cameron could muster. Thankfully, Rosa Salazar's portrayal is able to elevate this beautiful CG monstrosity into something naive yet wholeheartedly endearing and at times, truly cathartic. My one gripe was with the oddly jarring scene at the beginning of the film in which Alita's burrito inexplicably disappears between shots; A bizarre mistake in an otherwise entertaining YA romp.
I wish last order (entire run is literally a fighting tournament WTF) didn't exist and the Mars chronicle is nowhere close to finished so probably for the best. I hope they make a movie trilogy ending as well because the manga ending was so shit even the author retconned it
Ryan Parker
Why did this general attract all the cancerous trash from this board?
Dominic Barnes
Btw the burrito is a localization. She eats a baguete in France, approaches the dog for another reason in China.
Adam Thompson
Not quite. She started to. Then gave dogo a bite. Then the burrito just disappears out of her hand.
Dominic Torres
>the villain is a homo Based af
Austin Ross
lel
Jonathan Lewis
How many trillions does this need to make to break even again?
Wyatt Ross
>cancerous trash from this board Because in case you haven't noticed, this board is populated by cancerous trash you casual. Where do you think you are, facebook?
Justin Clark
Fuck off, Last Order was amazing, and it was way more than just a tournament. You either haven't read it or just lying.
Charles Butler
It was 150 mil a couple of days ago, now that the chinks have seen it they'll tell their friends and more will see it next weekend, like what happened to Avatar (which started out weak in the box office)
I know! It was so amazing how they made so many distinct locations fit so completely with eachother, as they are all so visibly different but are clearly operating on the same subtle conventions beneath the surface. Absolutely nothing felt out of place and you literally never see that in any movie.
Lincoln Carter
That never bothered me. I guess I just sort of assumed she left it on the ground for the dog.
You seem so obsessed. Are you a tourist from that forum? If so, keep your shits out of Yea Forums.
Caleb Wilson
its too early and it would blow most viewers minds
Joshua Bailey
>this is their home and they're living there happily why would they do that when the scrapyard is the absolutely most unlivably worst shithole on the planet in the manga
Luis Anderson
I can't believe it only needs a $150 billion to break even. Its been a long road to get here. Won't be long now till they put out a press release announcing the sequel.
>brave No, just stupid. >strong Can't argue with that, even if it's pushed to the point of utter ridiculousness. Destroying cyborgs with bare human hands, really? Was Kishiro high or something? >fun Absolutely no, he was a cringey comical sidekick that failed at being actually funny >handsome Hahaha, no. >no cubic fuckload of baggage He becomes more of an hindrance than anything in multiple situations due to his own stupidity.
I would've understood if their relationship started after a longer series of events, but her falling in love with a guy that she considered a complete moron an hour before was plain rushed and dumb.
Ryan Campbell
>based boatman is going to explain the physics behind a space elevator to the general audience in a blockbuster
Isn't that good? I always like how Tiphares was a mystery in the manga and there was even a bigger mystery over it. Also would work wonders with Grewishka's speech about "worlds over worlds".
Liam Brown
Depressing to know that trashy capeshit makes that much worldwide in 3 days.
Joseph Smith
having courage builds appetite.
Asher Roberts
I REMEMBER BLACK SKIES THE LIGHTENING ALL AROUND ME
Well, 150 million is a rough estimate. I mean, if we go by Fox Insider's word, technically the movie only needs another 90 million to "break even." But really success numbers look like we need about another 160 million. And if China holds and makes the film another 100 million or more by the end of it's run, which it very well could, we are fucking set.
Samuel Brooks
This.
Lincoln Torres
>domestic: 60m Our country does not deserve such a weapon
The general audience needs to be eased into it. To most people, a cybernetic society is already very alien. A lot of people find small things like artificial hearing(which exists today) creepy.
Luke Barnes
>AI is the worst of all tech heresies >the most sacred of all relics is an intact STC with functional AI What did the Omnissiah mean by this?
Brayden Nelson
lullaby for a soldier
the song in the trailer is made specifically for the trailer
Daniel Brown
I just got back Yea Forums. If you went back in time and told me Alita would actually be released and even be good I wouldn't believe you.
Luke Wilson
so someone who backs her up against a professional military force when he could have run away isn't brave? He might be an idiot more stubborn than an ass, but he's a true chad and a real human bean that forms a genuine connection to her, unlike hugo who was pathologically obsessed with zalem and never really cared for her, and I'd say that this is intentional to show her growth as a person through her partners.
>you will never take Alita to see BR2029 and have her gaze lovingly at you with her big fanatical eyes and tell you how much she liked how K died for something he believed in
more depressing that people who probably don't even really care about capeshit just robotically show up because there's no risk, no involvement. It's familiar, there's no need to learn about a new setting. Completely inert media.
Isaac Reyes
neon is lighter than air
Cooper Reed
Yeah but I'm not waiting 20 years to get to film 3 so we can finally have the Nova cameo reveal.
Josiah Richardson
yes
Noah Phillips
its like 60 and 10.
Ryan Wood
the Omnissiah is a hypocrite who lied to the fabricator general and mind-raped him into forgetting about the void-dragon. Thankfully Alita is basically just a cute Thallax.
Cameron Sanders
Is this a shoop?
Matthew Wood
>anime/manga is popular because of how different it is >WE NEED TO MAKE IT LESS DIFFERENT OR IT WILL FAIL
???????????
James Bell
How did it get to this point? Why are people, especially millennials and zoomers, such braindead sheep nowadays? Corporations have full control of their minds.
Ryder Cruz
So are you saying it's already 320 million?
Gabriel Lewis
...
Henry Rodriguez
The best we can hope for is a Zapan redemption arc :(
Grayson Powell
>nowadays yea lets just ignore the 13 jason movies and 8 freddy kruger movies and that whole 15 westerns a month stuff.
Jose Lee
Does Volume 3 explain what happens after
Matthew Bell
I think we are looking at closer to $320 quadrillion.
Nathan Martin
Over a decade of shonen shit. Author changed publication and decided to ride on the Naruto hype train of the 2000s. At least Mars Chronicle has some semblance of a plot
Adrian Morris
It only comes from the gas pockets on top of petroleum reservoirs and we're running out of those.
It can be taken from nuclear reaction vessels, but no one bothers because of how obscenely expensive that is.
>not all 100% >more $7mi from the UK in the way This is it boys
Justin Cox
Some anime/manga is just not possible to adapt closely without making it completely cringe and unintentionally comical. Stuff like shonenshit and basically anything involving magic powers in real world setting. Another factor is that you need to dumb things down for normies because they're incapable of accepting anything slightly different from what they're used to.
Jonathan Watson
bruh it's not a generational thing. The large majority of people are usually brain dead on creative outlets because most just don't actually care. Apathy is death.
No faggots. China and Japan are added in the total, they haven't just updated the table properly. For fucks sake fix Colombia too
Samuel Thompson
You might have a point, but I still think that the relationship development was way too rushed and drastic. Hell, the first time she said "I cared about him" was right after she freed herself from being tied up by him. Not even a full day had passed from their first encounter. How could she develop such a feeling in such a short time, especially when she felt like Figura had been ungrateful for her saving him?
Mason James
Cope harder shill
James Taylor
Author changed publication because his publisher demanded that he change some lines in the original manga and he gave them an ultimatum to which they didn't agree.
Ethan Murphy
>Alita: Fallen Angel More motorball, berzerker Zapan, Ido dies and Alita becomes Zalem's bitch >Alita: Avenging Angel Barjack war, alita replicas, final showdown with Nova and original ending
Aaron Wilson
Excellent work.
Adrian Miller
Nope, $203M is the correct overseas number, is right
Because they literally had no choice, you moron. Only authorized people can go out in the desert and the desert itself is filled with ravagers and killers.
>Some anime/manga is just not possible to adapt closely without making it completely cringe and unintentionally comical. To this, the response is Ghost in the Shell, 1995. As the original manga was mostly just an excuse for (tech)porn that developed a life of it's own (as the author is a porn artist, first and foremost). Oshii steps in, identifies the unique and notable aspects of the manga, and laser focuses upon them, and makes something that is distinct from the source, that also honors and deepens the source.
No one is saying there should've been a scene in the movie where ido installs the best pooper in alita possible, and follows her into the bathroom to watch her test it out. They're saying the changes made to the movie not only dishonor the source, but cheapens it, weakens it, and fails to lay a proper foundation to go forward with anything but bastardized OC.
Julian Flores
I looked at Alita for the third time. After that, got drunk.
Daniel Bell
Based
David Reyes
>billions In the era of 15 spaghetti westerns a month that was a word for science geeks, not a word for describing quantities of money.
Carter Sanchez
you mean ido.rar for work, probably everywhere else are just factory farms and independent little villages that constantly get raided by rebels, the scrapyard is the only metropolis for at least hundreds and hundreds of miles
Angel Reed
yes because they definitely write the dates manually instead of using the Date function
Hudson Martin
while this is good, I want to point out Fox only takes in about 25% of China's grosses. And the movie is said to required between 350-500 million to break even. So it's a bit too early to claim victory yet. Remember Warcraft made $433,677,183 WW but it wasn't enough to greenlight a sequel because the domestic box office was so poor. WOM needs to keep doing work, and there needs to be more autistic people who go see it multiple times
>They're saying the changes made to the movie not only dishonor the source, but cheapens it, weakens it, and fails to lay a proper foundation to go forward with anything but bastardized OC.
Oh wait, I skipped this part. Whoever says this is a complete idiot.
Jaxon Hughes
Finally watched this with someone who's been a fan of the manga since 2000, and it got his seal of approval.
And I found it to be a decent watch too.
Adam Sullivan
Its unfortunate that this waifukino has to make 765 googoplex to the googolplex power in order to begin to break even with the production and marketing budget.
>only 12 times And he calls himself "Fan of Alita"?
Oliver Brooks
I hope the sequels will give us an interesting Lou; She was a very good character in the original manga, being the first good Zalemian the reader is introduced to. Her long-distance friendship with Alita is also super cute.
The funny thing about this movie is it’s not even anything that special, but it’s just such a breath of fresh air in a sea of degeneracy and mediocrity, it stands out like a lighthouse in pure, suffocating darkness.
