Why are we still hearing about one of the shittiest genres of music 40 years after it died?
>Basically the concept is that they're bad at music but don’t care because they have a kind of sneering contempt for the audience? Does that sound like something you might be interested in?
>Imagine the most talentless shithead retard 19 year old you know. Now, imagine four of him. Now, imagine they're making music. Would you like to know more?
>The only way this could get better is if he were really arrogantly obsessed with politics despite being clueless..

punk rock was a glorified makework scheme for talentless trust fund kids, like modern art or NGOs.

>but don’t care because they have a kind of sneering contempt for the audience
No wonder critics loved it

first sentence is proof you don't understand musical history in any meaningful capacity desu

No it means you don't. Maybe punk hasn't been dead for 40 years but it definitely has been dead for 30.

90% of modern hardcore bands play metal, and it has been that way since the 90s.
Since the early 90s, pop-punk gets brought back every decade or so but the trick it is entirely pop.

you also don't have any understanding of musical history in any meaningful capacity desu

What do you mean? Why does hating punk mean you don’t understand musical history? We’re the original punks music historians? What do you mean?

>90% of modern hardcore bands play metal, and it has been that way since the 90s.
that's as stupid as arguing that 80s bands played metal

Cope for the fact that bands like The Damned, the Sex Pistols, The Clash, PiL, Siouxsie, Buzzcocks, The Stranglers and the Heartbreakers are far better than shit like Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Yes, Genesis and Gentle Giant.

literally every band you mentioned is garbage.

Okay faggot, go put on your shitty King Crimson records.

king crimson is also garbage.

Punk naturally evolved from what Stooges, TVU, MC5 and garage rock bands of the 60s were doing

Who are your top 5 bands then?

True

It just sounds bad.

Dawg how do you fall for this low effort bait?

>good bands
Yes, PIL, The Damned, Siouxsie, early pink floyd
>bad bands
Sex pistols, the clash, buzzcocks, genesis
The rest are just ok

Pink Floyd transcended to heights no other punk or prog band came even remotely close. Nothing since has managed to sound so unique while retaining melodic pleasantry.
To say a band like the fucking Buzzcocks are better then them is laughable.
Some of the punk bands you mentioned are better than the overrated faux art prog garbage that yes and genesis put out, though.

>early Pink Floyd
Go back

Cope. The only good material they made was with Syd and you know it.

Buzzcocks mog Pink Floyd and you would have to be mentally retarded or deaf to believe otherwise. No, your generic Floyd records that every 15 year old "who's really into music" has aren't better than the trilogy and Singles Going Steady. Get over it.

ok tell us what's good

Punk is naturally a mixed bag, when it’s bad it’s awful, but when it’s good it’s fucking great. Even the lows are still pretty entertaining, the creative freedom is unparalleled to any genre, which is why punk has been the backbone of like 90% of the counterculture since the mid 70s, and i like that the barrier to entry is low enough anyone who wants to express themselves can do it. Like Kurt Cobain said, punk to me means freedom.

Buzzcocks just made incel songs about not getting laid. Magazine are so much better anyways.

The Syd era was basically shitty watered down acid jazz derivative. Animals alone is worth more then their entire pre gilmour era
Finish college and spend some time living outside of academia, then come back to Darkside/WYWH era

Punkfags criticize prof for being “generic” but literally all punk sounds the same. It’s all just image.
Like, there’s no musical difference between far-left punk, apolitical punk, nazi punk, it all sounds the same, it’s just got a different image.
This is music from a punk band that had radio hits, a really popular big name punk band: youtu.be/skdE0KAFCEA
This is music from a dirty, dingy underground punk degenerate known for crazy wild shows: youtu.be/sCU9XjI2oaE
It’s the same! It all sounds the same! It’s all just power chords on distorted guitars with that exact same punk rock distortion tone. It’s the same!

Transcended to the height of putting instantly to sleep.

Punk rock is based and Pink Floyd is gay just like Led Zepplin. Its trash music and only seems good to people because "dude acid lol"
Jimi Hendrix is God tier though

I like that punk has speed and energy without devolving into autistic shrieking like in metal. Punk sings also typically say what they mean without the need to use a bunch if gay metaphors and pretend that music is serious business.

King Crimson and Pink Floyd fans and the like can wank to 15 minute long snoozefest tracks with occasional ambient droning noises to feel like they're the real music lovers but punk niggas will be busy having fun and actually finding enjoyment in music.

>without devolving into autistic shrieking

Buzzcocks made the greatest pop songs of the late 70s other than The Jam. To say they're just incels shows you've obviously never listened to them. Magazine are great though.
>Finish college and spend some time living outside of academia, then come back to Darkside/WYWH era
That's literally the people who think Pink Floyd are good.
You are so dishonest. GG Allin sounded nothing like that within a few years, when he was throwing his shit around and pissing on people.

Who gives a shit about prog? Why are you bringing up prog?
Fucking hip-hop is better than punk. Country (any and all styles and subgenres) is better than punk.
Nursery rhymes are better than punk. Novelty records are better than punk.
“Happy Birthday To You” > any punk song ever written

>The Misfits
>Bad Brains
>Pennywise

PUNK ROCK

Punkfags can only defend their boring, derivative, juvenile, talentless, tuneless music by going
>“w-well it’s better than a sub genre of rock from 50 years ago”
I don’t listen to prog, but from the little I’ve sampled I can tell you the worst prog > the best punk

You are probably too pussy to ever have gone into a mosh pit so you wouldnt understand

....woah....

You are probably too pussy to waltz or square dance, so we’re even

Take your meds, progfag.
What punk bands have you thoroughly listened to? Meaning you've listened to a significant portion of their discography? And who are your top 5 bands if you don't like prog or punk?

“Seamus” by Pink Floyd > Sex Pistol’s entire discography

1. The Beatles
2. Bob Dylan
3. Current 93
4. The Beach Boys
5. Elvis Presley

>What punk bands have you thoroughly listened to? Meaning you've listened to a significant portion of their discography?
Literally every single one of them, cause you hear one punk rock song and boom! you’ve heard them all

>music so bad you have to suffer head injuries to enjoy it
woah...

>Take your meds, progfag.
>p-p-p-p-punk isn’t bad, i-it’s better than a sub genre of rock nobody’s l-listened to since the 70s. W-what? What do you mean the 70s were fifty years ago?

>John Lydon: "Listen, you’d have to be daft as a brush to say you didn’t like Pink Floyd. They’ve done great stuff."
Lydon was a huge fan of Peter Hammill; he formed PiL with Keith Levene, who quit school to be a roadie with Yes.
John McGeoch and Dave Greenfield played like prog musicians in terms of their compositional approaches.
Rat Scabies famously fanboyed over Genesis upon meeting Phil Collins in an airport.

So you haven't even listened thoroughly to one punk band, got it. Well if you're interested, here's a few "punk" records to check out. I think you'll find that not one sounds like the other.
I hear Ramones and Clash songs in commercials and shows all of the time. Shit like Genesis, Gentle Giant and King Crimson got stuck in the 70s.
>um, actually enlightened centrist

>That's literally the people who think Pink Floyd are good.
You dont see a connection there? When you get into the actual world you will realize most of the bands that art school kids worship as genius and attribute their lack popularity/recognition to them being too complex are actually just not popular because they suck.
The only people over 26 in Punk scenes are generally manchildren who fear embracing adulthood. Theres a reason the opinions of 17-23 year olds dont hold weight in literally any other field of art, music should be no different.

No, I mean the type of people who like Pink Floyd are teenagers in high school or college. Well that and boomers, obviously.

Lol 4 of the most generic and universally acclaimed acts of all time with an underground album from the less interesting Nick Cage mixed in for clout. Sure dude youre an authority we can trust on 2 entire genres being shit

Save for the most generic Hollywood stoner stereotypes art school kids are exactly the type to write off pink floyd as low brow in favor of some obscure noise rock band because they think by their mere obscurity they are a reflection of ‘unique taste’. They will hate DSotM solely because its in the top ten best selling albums of all time

I don't think I'm a better person for enjoying both genres, even if I consider prog to be on average superior.
Also, cultural capital does not particularly correlate with quality, so your point about shows and commercials are pointless.

I like some punk rock, sometimes

punk itself is unlistenable garbage, however it spawned several of the best music genres

>generic Hollywood stoner stereotypes art school kids
user, these are the types of people who listen to Pink Floyd.
>Also, cultural capital does not particularly correlate with quality, so your point about shows and commercials are pointless.
You have a low IQ if you think that's the argument I was making. I obviously wasn't saying it's good because it appears in commercials, it was simply in response to the user who said no one listened to it after the 1970s.

I didn't think it was the argument you were making; I thought it was a stupid detail to throw in, especially because it reinforces punk rock as a genre that the entertainment industry uses as opposed to the choices of listeners themselves. I suppose that would have been harder for you to come to terms with, though.

Get over yourself. Blitzkrieg Bop and Should I Stay or Should I Go? are hardly portraying their respective bands as fierce, anti-establishment, anti-commercialists. Both songs were obviously made to be commercial. And other songs by those bands and other punk bands would never get played on advertisements. The reason you don't typically hear Gentle Giant or King Crimson in commercials is because their music sucks.

You are missing my point user, but for the record art school kids dont listen to Pink Floyd, theyll tell you popol vuh or similar are much better (theyre not)

Filtered. Popol Vuh, Can, Faust, etc. are way better both musically and artistically than pink floyd’s gay gnome shit.

The reason they get played on commercials is because you only need fifteen seconds of the song to understand the entirety of it, and almost all advertisements are fifteen to thirty seconds in length. Christ, I didn't think people on Yea Forums still got filtered this hard.

Addendum: Wire is the greatest punk group of all time, comfortably on the level of the greatest prog bands and superior to many of them, yet I never seem to hear them on commercials for some reason. Weird, huh.

Don't forget that Steve Vai played on a PiL album

Blue Öyster Cult is heavy metal bro
