There was some legal disputes with the name with Marvel and the powers as well with DC.

From what i got initially Shazam going by the name Captain Marvel belonged to another guy that DC sued due to how it was too similar to Superman in powers, due to getting sued and losing popularity the guy canceled the series and marvel created a Captain Marvel character and kept publishing books with his name constantly to not lose the trademark of the name, later DC acquired CM (Shazam) but since Marvel had the rights to the name they had to rename him to Shazam (I think they also had a legal battle over the name due to CM(Shazam) appearing 1st but Marvel registering and keeping the name trademark for all those years and Marvel won)

That was due to Marvel getting the name in the late 60's and keeping publishing Captain Marvel Books at least once every two years just for the sake of keeping the name.

I think it's kind of ironic, they spent so much money and time in keeping this trademark because it had the name of their company and in the end this is character that might kill everything they have, it seems it's garbage in comics and it looks to be the character that leads to the downfall of the MCU

Do take note that Supermans strength is tied to the physical realm. His super strength, ability to fly, x-ray vision, fast movement etc etc is in its nature, mundane and occurs naturally because of him being Kryptonian. Thus by the end of the day, Clark Kent is very much just a normal physical individual similar to all living things.

Captain Marvel on the other hand is a being borne out of magic. Everything that Billy Batson have is tied to the powers granted to him by the Gods and thus everything that he is capable of throwing is tied to realm of the supernatural - thus is not governed by the laws of physics and the physical realm. This is the reason why weight by weight, Clark Kent is and always is outclassed by Billy Batson head on, because when it comes down to it, Superman is basically fighting a being who might as well not be there in the first place.

No kryptonite gloves is used in the Kingdom Come fight. All Captain Marvel has to do was to shout Shazam multiple times and the multitudes of magic lightning hitting Superman is enough to make his eyes and ears bleed out of sheer power that he is taking head on.

IIRC Superman was running against time as they were gonna nuke a place and Cap Marvel always had an advantage over Superman due to how he is magic powered and Superman has no resistance to magic.
