Can't handle that much CGI. Is there any ACTUAL racing?

As much as I love Speed Racer and grew up watching it I still haven't seen the movie even though Yea Forums sucks it's tranny dick.

Also for really Speed fans just to get it stuck in your head before sleep.

I love this movie but it is so lopsided. The performances and dialogue and direction will be flat-out amazing in one scene, and then we’ll get the karate fight scene or the scene with the boy and chim-chim in the candy factory. It’s like...how did these scenes make it into the movie? The tone is all over the place.

It's one of those films that are way better than they deserve to be. But the Brothers hadn't gone full tranny yet and the casting was there. Too bad Emile Hirsch and Matthew Fox went crazy afterwards and torpedoed their careers. A sequel would've been nice.

Despite its corny writing and setting, it's a pretty well executed sports movie with some of the Wachowski's usual anticapitalist themes.

Speedracer was a self-contained one and done movie. Alita was clearly the first movie in potential trilogy, based on a long manga that is episodic.

It's not a fair comparison in that sense.

I came to the conclusion they were trying to adapt both the sanitized American version and the original Japanese anime. If you look at it that way it's a great Speed Racer/Mach a Go Go film.

Was the Japanese version a lot more serious than the American version? Because if so the little kid and the monkey’s parts still don’t fit.

They were always comic relief and getting into mischief like stowing away in the back of speed’s car
They captured the same essence and it isn’t surprise it’s a bit cringy but hey that’s what live action does sometimes

It's funny how Matrix, despite arguably being one of the sisters weaker movies, is by far their most succesful one. I take Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and even Jupiter Ascending over it any day.

YOU'RE embarrassed, and that's appropriate, but you're projecting your feelings onto other people, which is nothing but a sign of your own mental weakness.
It was an entry point. Introductory works are more accessible and therefore more palatable to a mainstream audience. That being said, the Wachowski's are drug-addled degenerates, and Speed Racer is great because it speaks of all the "born with it" greatness that they deigned appropriate to toss in the garbage along with their genitals. It's the only noble piece of art they ever managed to create.

The Japanese version played for keeps like having the villains actually getting killed for instance. In the American cartoon they just get knocked out. But yeah the antics of Spritle and Chim Chim are annoying but canon to the series. I think the production wanted the sisters to leave them in to appeal to youngsters which is too bad cause Speed Racer without the annoying little brother is a decent adult film.
