The “old” ones who are really cool aren’t really that old (50-70), their bodies are just in terrible condition, so you think they’re more mentally together than they should be at their age. Most people start becoming intractable and dull past 70, even if they look fine physically till their 80’s.

I dunno, maybe it's different in my area because we generally still have intergenerational homes so I don't really see that as much, only with some childless people in the home. They aren't too packed in though, it's one of those places with a little village and a clubhouse with a golf course. Old people with families just move into the downstairs room and help take care of the grandkids while the parents work.

Grandmother is 91. Goes out and gardens everyday. Since the stroke she repeats herself all the time, but she can still remember what's happened from day to day. She's got a lot of great stories and can still walk city blocks.

Grandfather on the other side of the family is 89. He fucked off to the middle of nowhere ages ago. Never wants to talk about anything but how pitiful his health is. Alienated everyone.
