it showed varg in too favorable a light
*ambient music starts playing*
WTF op! you not being a faggot is my will and you question it?
Watched it earlier today. It is clearly painstakingly accurate on the major points of the story, and the ending is very plausible. I knew Euronymous' girlfriend was largely made up because they knew he had a girlfriend (according to everyone but Varg) but they didn't know anything about her. However, I don't think they overdid that character, so that's not a problem.
Now that you mention it though, the Gigachad Varg parts are hard to accept, especially considering how autistic Varg comes across on his YouTube channel.
The movie does make them look like the dumb kids they were, so I'm sure some autistic black metal fans will be upset about that.
One thing I thought it did really well was pointing out all the really shitty ways Euronymous acted - stealing credit for everything, being a complete control freak - basically the things we knew about him.
Its one weakness is that it didn't really explore the mysticism and nature focuses of black metal. There was always a very earthy, almost spiritual aspect to black metal, which bands like Burzum, and even more Ulver and Darkthrone, tapped into, and that was missing except for a couple woodsy black metal dream montages that hint at the director's experience as a music video director.
I think it's perfect for what it set out to do. As far as an actual movie, in terms of enjoyability and craft, I'd give it a 4/5. But, since I rate for my own enjoyment, and I tend more towards melodramas and adventure movies, I had to give it a 3.5/5
It's gratifying for all those concerned that this looks like complete shit that noone will even care about.
...except that it's very accurate, it's gotten good reviews, and it was done with the cooperation of the band (sans Vargypoo)
but all the bands involved told the producers to go jump in the lake when they asked for music rights
>it was done with the cooperation of the band
prove it
>sans
go drown yourself in the nearest sink, holy shit
>it's very accurate
It's not though
>accurate
The book it's based on was drastically fictionalized and not supported by the musicians. And nor was the movie. Who exactly has supported this?
Also, the movie massively changes things to seem like they were just a bunch of chill hipsters playing "LOUD RAWK" and then that no good right wing incel Varg came in and changed things. Give me a break. It's practically an Educational program.
>The movie does make them look like the dumb kids they were
Honestly only watched it because it was clear from the trailer that the movie was going to show that they were just retarded kids
It’s hard to determine the film’s true quality with Varg’s drones shitting up every discussion about the movie.
They won’t admit Varg is an unlikable piece of shit, and since this film doesn’t spend its entire run time sucking him off, “its the worst movie eber >:(“
this person is jewish
Varg is a self-gratifying dickhead but noone with any interest or knowledge of metal is going to like this. Not everything is about ideology, things aren't so black and white.
>Its one weakness is that it didn't really explore the mysticism and nature focuses of black metal. There was always a very earthy, almost spiritual aspect to black metal, which bands like Burzum, and even more Ulver and Darkthrone, tapped into
That's my favorite part of bm honestly. Guess I'll miss this retelling of the old fable.
Ah. The rallying cry of the Vargtard.
>J-Jew!1!!
They have nothing else. Maybe daddy Varg will let them lick his left nut if they call enough of his detractors Jews.
>so you are saying you are a pagan, a nazi and a satanist
>...
Personality-wise he is very likeable, he just did some horrible things when he was young.
The film doesn't need to suck him off, nor should it, but if it wanted respect it should have at least tried to be accurate.
I don't respect anyone who takes his wife's name
if you want to gauge the truth of the movie just look how hard varg is gaslighting. so I would say the movie is in key aspects closer to the truth than varg wishes. nevertheless they should have added this scene:
>Shortly after this episode, the Oslo police dispatched its Church Fire Group to Bergen, where they set up a makeshift headquarters in the Hotel Norge. According to Lords of Chaos, citing a police report, Vikernes knocked on their door and "virtually forced his way into the suite". He was "dressed in chain mail, carrying two large knives in his belt, and flanked by the two young men who apparently behaved as if they were his bodyguards or henchmen". Vikernes "stated that he was fed up with being harassed by the authorities, and that the police investigation into the Black Metal scene should be stopped". When police told him he had no right to issue orders, Vikernes "took one step back and raised his right arm in a Roman salute"
Funny how Varg is turning into Odin.
Fuck the police btw.
It's not based on the book. It's based on research by the director, who spent a good decade working on the script. He was the drummer in Bathory, and he knew a lot of people in the Norwegian scene personally. I know he collaborated a lot with Attila and Euronymous' parents when making it.
I don't really care about the personality cult, but you have to be retarded if you don't think varg was the only one that actually stood up for black metal being anti-christian than the rest of the fags being in it for chicks and/or dude Satanism lmao
didnt know varg was such a manwhore
I hate Varg but they deliberately misrepresented him in the movie. He wasn't fat, neither does he talk like an absolute retard. I can see why they did it, but it hurt the movie a bit. Overall 6-6.5/10. Saw it at the cinema yesterday btw.
Jackson Rathbone was supposed to play Varg before dropping out for scheduling issues.
It could’ve been much better.
>Funny how Varg is turning into Odin.
cool, when is he blinding himself in one eye?
Does anyone else in this thread actually even listen to metal. Myself, I'll literally be at a Morbid Angel show in a little bit.
Heh. Better luck next time, DORKS!
when it comes to sub cultures being a meta head is literally the garbage heap: everyone can be part of it
if you want to take part in the electronic or rap subgroup you better have a six pack
>Morbid Angel
lmao do they even exist?
after the Illud cringefest, I had hoped that they would break up
at least Vince is meeting with Blasphemer to make quality black/death metal
youtube.com
I haven't hung out with metalheads since my early teens, but i still like the music a lot. I'll admit it's a very simple, working class crowd for the most part, and while I actually like them as people, we wouldn't have much to talk about beyond metal itself, although I bet we'd probably agree / have a similar disposition on the general things in life. I'm just too much of a brainy art cunt though and can really only relate to the art crowd conversation-wise.
They're still one of my favorite dm bands so I want to get around to seeing them.
Last year was good for me metal concert-wise...
I saw:
Slayer, Judas Priest, Napalm Death, Exhumed, Krisiun, Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Deep Purple, Testament, and Anthrax.
Will be seeing Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Necrot, Autopsy, and Cryptopsy this year so far. Had to skip out on a Possessed show unfortunately.
