"Is this the region, this the soil, the clime,"
Said then the lost Archangel, "this the seat
That we must change for Heaven?--this mournful gloom
For that celestial light? Be it so, since he
Who now is sovereign can dispose and bid
What shall be right: farthest from him is best
Whom reason hath equalled, force hath made supreme
Above his equals. Farewell, happy fields,
Where joy for ever dwells! Hail, horrors! hail,
Infernal world! and thou, profoundest Hell,
Receive thy new possessor--one who brings
A mind not to be changed by place or time.
The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.
What matter where, if I be still the same,
And what I should be, all but less than he
Whom thunder hath made greater? Here at least
We shall be free; th' Almighty hath not built
Here for his envy, will not drive us hence:
Here we may reign secure; and, in my choice,
To reign is worth ambition, though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.
But wherefore let we then our faithful friends,
Th' associates and co-partners of our loss,
Lie thus astonished on th' oblivious pool,
And call them not to share with us their part
In this unhappy mansion, or once more
With rallied arms to try what may be yet
Regained in Heaven, or what more lost in Hell?"

>be Lucifer
>understand God's true cruel nature and his soverign reign over man and angels
>understand God from the start created a social hierarchy, and the World is unjust and unfair, and force people to believe in Him for salvation
>realize how fucking unfair life is and attempt to take over
>cast out completely
>no christian prays for the worst sinner of all
>doomed in hell for all eterntety for being redpiled
Wtf bros? I thought I was supposed to hate Satan. He's based as fuck
he became too redpilled
Ehh sorta wrong. He was unwilling to contribute and sacrifice himself for others around him, while all the while having infinite knowledge. I.e. he's the angsty kid who acts cynical within a group project because he's not the leader, albeit in Satan's case, it was a perfect group with a perfect objective and perfect intentions.
Friendly reminder: Yea Forums is a Catholic board: always has been, always will be.
>have a plan to create a universe with angels and humans
>know ahead of time 1/3rd of the angels will hate you and rebel and the majority of the humans will end up suffering eternally
>only way to save a minority of humans is to torture your own son to death
>create this version of the universe anyway
What was God's fucking problem?
Ah, I see, but then what's the point? If God knew he wouldn't stand the test why would he even bother with Satan. Are you a believer?
I wish there were more films actually about demons, hell, purgatory, etc. Nowdays, any random shit exorcism or similar low budget film comes up if you search for something about demons.
DUDE HE WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS LMAO
Yeah, I guess I'm a believer, albeit I think it's important to note I went:
>raised catholic: church every sunday, elementary school was catholic, same with HS, albeit where I live in the US, basically everyone goes to Catholic HS since there are so many, it's not that expensive (compared to prep schools), and the publics are utter trash. During this time period, I was just going throw the motions
>college - second guess everything
>post college for a few years- atheist, and would argue with people's intelligence frequently if they believe in God
>early medical school - agnostic
>late medical school (now) - back to being Catholic, albeit I haven't gone back to once/week mass yet because of this communist Pope we have right now
My belief and understand from Saint Thomas Aquinas is that even if God always knew the end, the process is still the means to growth out of love for our existence. I.e. not to oversimplify, but Tolkien understood and exemplified this concept with LOTR: anyone from the start knew the ring would be destroyed by the climax, albeit the journey was of far more importance to define one's character, values, and resilience. Sorry for the blogpost.
I want to read about the biblical satan bros, but I don't want to go through THOU SHALL NOT and all that trash, is wikipedia
*through, *understanding - sorry I didn't proofread and wrote it quickly.

How the fuck do I read Paradise Lost?
I tried to, it's too obtuse
Which translation - some are far more approachable than others, yet still convey the bigger picture and message.

Thanks for the infographic. I will give it a read.
No sweat, best of luck.
>Sorry for the blogpost
>only informed and intelligent user willing to give out discussion on a discussion board
I fucking love discussion, thank god someone actually talks here. I grew up in a Christian school like you, but to this day I go back and forth on God and his existence. I like the analogy to the Lotr books and this makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you for actually talking about your thoughts, going to have a smoke and think about my life. Thank you.
Thanks, that means alot. If it means anything, I still go through the exact same questioning everyday, which is important for critical thinking (which the Church once valued), and for the sincerity of one's own belief. Growing up, I was, and continue to be (albeit I've tried my best to change), a bit cynical about one's motives, as well as one's intelligence, even before they give their argument. What helped me was accidentally falling upon City of God by Saint Augustine, as well as Summa Theologica by Saint Thomas Aquinas. The modern Church, in the majority, may be near retarded on how they interpret philosophical and logical questions that man, believer or non-believer, may have. I think it's important to point back to these masterful texts as examples that, throughout the history of mankind, others have always had the exact same difficulties in trusting in God (there are many great Shinto texts that ask the same questions; good reading). I think also pushing toward the boundaries of translational medicine has given me some perspective to see how unbelievable things actually are (I guess similar to how some elite physicists are hardcore God believers). The final thing I will note, is that I do frequently second guess Catholicism, and Christianity at large, but I can't say that I second guess the existence of God anymore, if that makes sense. Anyway, I'll end it there. Best of luck.
