Animation and soundtrack were great, but the story was pretty meh and it wasn't as philosophically intelligent as the creator probably thinks it is.
It's my favorite scene in the movie. Just a beautiful sequence with great music.

tricked me into thinking anime is worth anything
It was pretty far ahead of its time when considering AI and such though.
I think it says a lot that it feels in many ways a lot more relevant today than it would have when it was released.
Most other sci-fi at the time was pretty schlocky and way out there

Man, what a let down
Up until that point it felt like it was really building up to something and then it just fizzled out and went nowhere
It invites a meditation around the themes of identity and society through the use of urbanism imagery. The city is almost a character in the movie,an imperfect outdated analog network that contrasts starkly with the digital and impeccably clean virtual cyberverse of the protagonists.
pops into my head the instant I see that image.
