Whatever happened to him

What about the legend of the baggard Vance?

The part where they found out the Romanoffs were dead was my favorite

This film is so fucking good.

It's also very true to the novel, it leaves a lot behind but I like how the movie is self-aware to the point of commenting on stuff that happens in the book, like when Komarovsky calls Lara a fucking slut, slaps and ''''rapes'''' her.

It's also funny how much of an important character Strelnikov is even though he's literally in only 1 scene after the intermission and they didn't adapt Yuri and Strelnikov meeting in Yuriatin after Lara goes away.

>Still no El Cid restoration
>owned by the Weinstein Company
there's no hope for it is there?

Kino theme too youtu.be/4Yd2PzoF1y8

Don't remember it. My favorite parts in the train sequence and opening:

The only Kino with the line "back then, we ate people."

Yuri and Strelnikov meeting in the book is heartbreaking tho

Koramovsky is one of the best villains in modern cinema

I've read the book and prefer the movie desu

I love lara's theme but people leave out themes like the funeral theme, the revolution theme and the actual title credits theme out and it's a shame

I've been meaning to watch this for years. I was trying to save it for the cinema, but last time it was showing my friends grandfather died right before we were gonna see it so got drunk instead. Lawrence of Arabia is by far my favourite film ever, how does this compare.

Well fuck I just actually listened to the song I posted and I intended to post another one.Well you did the job for me.

I have a CD with these rerecordings.
youtube.com/watch?v=LvtK8vy1boU

>Song
It's 3 a.m.

I like it better than Lawrence but only because it's a little shorter and some things aren't quite as drawn out. Awrens and the Sherif are the best friendship in film from 50+ years

God tier film, but I hated the actress who played Lara. Ridiculously over the top and melodramatic, she was clearly banging Lean at the time. The rest of the cast was great, though.

I honestly don't find Komarovsky a villian at all, he wanted to help them even though Lara shot him, stopped seeing him and didn't live that down even though it was her fault and they act like dicks towards him. He doesn't even mean a lot to Yuri either even other than a vague connection to his father

It would've given some closure though, they also intended (or maybe even shot) the scene where Yuri's father commits suicide with Komarovsky there on the train site to be in the movie, except that Yuri would be hanging with Tonya's family instead of uncle Nicky

It's like Lawrence of Arabia but with snow and romance

Smelly pig rapist

Julie Christie is kino actress, pleb

I love the book so fucking much, but the translation of the dialog is very stilted

At least it's on Blu-ray is some form, unlike Ryan's Daughter.

I've read the original. It's a bit too wacky.

LoA is a better character study and touches deeper themes.
Plus, Lawrence actively engages in his surroundings, and changes the world around him, while Zhivago is more contemplative, and mostly acts as a victim of circumstances, sometimes even disregarding how much the world around him changes.
Both are visually godly, amazingly well acted and directed and have gorgeous music, though, and deserve a watch for those reasons alone.

meh

The correct list of old hollywood epics has Ben-Hur at number 1 and no commie trash.

>2018
>watch the film for the first time
>restored version
>better looking than films of the last decade
Lean magic

Didn't really care for this one. The whole British stiff upper lip attitude was way too contrived

Was it ever restored? I think 45th Anniversary edition was poor compared to LoA and Ben-Hur.

1. Gone with the Wind
2. Ben Hur
3. Lawrence of Arabia
4. Doctor Zhivago
5. Cleopatra
6. Metropolis
7. Ten Commandments
8. Spartacus
9. Reds

Shame there still isn't a Kino Odyssey or Iliad

Been putting this off for years, should I give it a watch tomorrow while I'm doing my taxes?

>mfw 0:58

I have an old LP with the actual songs from the movie But what I really want is the Metropolitan Pops version. it honestly disappoints me that the March theme isn't anywhere in the film

She's beautiful, but her acting was dreadful. She always looked like she was on the verge of tears, and chewed the carpet in every scene.
Nice trips, though, check mine.

It's a great film.

I actually don't like how it looks and it's the only negative I can think for the film that it wasn't shot on a large format but instead on Panavision, which for some reason always get the uglier restorations while films shot on glorious Panavision 70 or Technirama or hell, even Cinemascope look better.

Where the fuck is Marketa Lazarova?!
just kidding that movie sucks

Get the Reds out. Are they feeding this movie to in liberal classes now? It's a piece of shit. Replace Cleopatra with Titanic and add Seven Samurai and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

>5. Cleopatra
my nigga

Better Alex North score too. Shame about the 6 hour cut never ever happening.

I've actually watched it
[spoilers]yep, it's crap[/spoiler]

You mean 2 hour cut, right?

t. high-minded pure kind of man the world pretends to look up to, but in fact despises.

If it's literally just every scene Rex Harrison is in then fine.

I fucking love Rex Harrison so much. My Fair Lady is musical kino even though Bernard Shaw was a commie

What's wrong with despising smelly pig rapists?

because they're not high-minded, not pure, but alive, while that pasha cuck rbeeds unhappiness, particularly in women

The caesar half was alright I give you that. The second half is painfully boring.

Dude le degenerates are le alive. You're worse than the director of La Haine. Kill yourself

Anyone watched this? I have a German DVD version where they cut the ''uncut'' english version in but it's just one big fucking mess and I'm not sure whether this is it or not

Movie so bad glorious blessed Rosza never scored another epic again

t. pleb who didn't get through intolerance or birth of a nation.

>name your movie "Doctor Chicago"
>then misspell "Chicago"
WHY

The Caesar part is the best part because the director actually had time to develop so he made it all about witty banter, while with the Antony half he was literally writing the script as he went.

But I love the scene where Antony hopelessly wacks his sword against an army that doesn't want to fight him. Best scene in the movie, poor Antony can't even kill himself properly.

Reds is legitimately one of the worst movies I've seen. Not just because it panders to commies, but because they interviewed some old farts in inserted them straight into the narrative. What were they thinking??

Attached: download.jpg (266x189, 6K)

>Good the Bad And The Ugly
>when For A Few Dollars More is better
I guess but Gone With The Wind is literally the better Civil War film

Don't act like your hero Nolan didn't do the same thing for Interstellar

>Dances with Wolves
Literally the movie that started the ''whitey bad and steal land, injun so much smarter'' trend, delete this.

>no Waterloo
>no The Searchers
>no Quo Vadis

The civil war bits of Gone With The Wind are high class kino, but like many 4 hour films the second half is a big step down from the first. Scarlett being a rich cunt still chasing the same guy years later was boring as hell.

shut up, Komarovsky is based, he's a rich lawyer that bangs teenagers in the back of his sled and doesn't afraid of anything

Birth of a Nation is boring. Intolerance is alright. Exodus is a cool epic unless you're a muslim scum. I'd consider The Sound of Music, Godfather trilogy epics

He did? I don't remember. Nolan is not my hero.
For a Few Dollars More is not an epic. Which is why some plebs prefer it.

Cheers lads. I'll give it a watch soon. Might make a thread about it afterwards.

The Greatest Story Ever Told is a highly underrated epic kino with fucking gorgeous cinematography, I wish I had screens of it but I honestly don't feel like I'm worthy of seeing it sometimes, also it suffers from being a really long and boring film that you need to watch it with the right mindset.

>Waterloo
>The Searchers

Outstanding taste user. I'd buy you a pint.

>still no Alferd Packer kino
>you can't find The Legend of Alferd Packer anywhere online

Are Satantango or Lav Diazs movies epics? Asking for a friend.

Highly reccomend this gem too, The Buccaneers. It's the last film Cecil B. DeMille was involved in, though he didn't direct it, but it has my husbando Charlton Heston as Andrew Jackson in it and Yul Brynner with hair and wearing the reason why 19th century fashion should return. no homo.

Speaking of Charlton Heston, can anyone confirm me how everyone suddenly paid attention to 55 Days at Peking?

>no El Cid
Based list. But Bondarchuk‘s War and Peace is better than his Waterloo.

Add Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon a Time in America, my lad

I actually am planning to finish reading War and Peace before I tackle on any of the adaptations, even though I did watch the Paramount one years ago, though I don't remember if it was any good.

my mom hates this movie but I like it

my mom unironically likes Lawrence better because it has more action scenes and the bromance was better than Zhivago cucking his wife to fuck some slut and feel good about it

I love the Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia. Does this hold up to them?

>Replace Cleopatra with Titanic and add Seven Samurai
perfect taste.

it's actually pretty different because it's not about the war or battles it's a very intimate and personal drama movie with sometimes a bunch of people on horses go by

>Contemporary critics were generally disappointed, complaining of its length at over three hours, and claiming that it trivialized history, but acknowledging the intensity of the love story and the film's treatment of human themes.

What did Wikipedia mean by this?

it means critics were getting tired of giving A+ reviews to all of Lean's films because it made them feel superfluous

Also recommended.

the DC to Lean's Marvel

My nigger

It has some memes on it like ''bbut the Tsar let his people starve!'' but it's a truly well fucking made movie. Breaks my heart everytime. One of the few times that a movie was made to make the entire fucking family depressed.
