I'm not really up to date with all the politics but the quality definitely dropped when he started featuring the black dude and that girl in every episode.
He was always cringe and a guilty pleasure but the cringe levels seemed to go way up in the later episodes. His old stuff still holds up though I think, better than AVGN in all honesty.

TGWTG and Channel Awesome first started going south when Spoony left, it was all downhill from there. Doug is doing fine though, he still gets plenty of views. Everyone else though isn't as hot.
