Good horror movie ?

Hey Yea Forums, I am in the mood for a good horror movie tonight, but I have no idea what to watch, and since I know you guys have superb taste in movies, I decided to ask you.

It's not a horror movie, but it's the best thriller I've ever watched. The first hour is set up, but after that you're on the edge of your seat the whole time.

What kind of horror do you want?
Theatrical vs found footage.
Supernatural vs not supernatural
If supernatural, what kind?
>ghost
>demon
>predatory animal
>alien
etc.
on a scale of "torture porn" to "bloodless psychological horror", where do you what this film you want to watch to lie?

be more specific

Evil Dead (2013)
Cold Prey
Devil

I don't have really big preferences, though it has been a long time since I watched a good psychological horror or found footage horror

Saw the "new" evil dead and Devil, might check out Cold Prey

Tnx user, will add it to my to-watch list

In the Mouth of Madness

watch noroi at home, alone and at noon

saw it, gr8 lovecraftian movie, probably the best out there

Supernatural horror is my fave, I liked
>The Conjuring (both)
>Insidious (1 & 2, the rest aren't great)
>Woman In Black (1, 2's just a cash grab)
>The Devil's Backbone
>Oculus
>The Nun (pure schlock but fun, and the protag's a qt3.142)
>The Ritual (cool idea, execution's a bit meh)
>A Cure For Wellness (more suspense/mystery than horror)
>Suspiria (some anons hated the remake, I loved it)
>The V-Vitch

I'm just going to throw out some suggestions.
The ones listed are either just because they came to mind right now, or, because of some reason or other, they stick in my mind regardless of their actual merits as a horror film:

>Deathwatch
WW1 military horror; bunch of British soldiers find themselves lost after a battle and come across a seemingly abandoned, labyrinthine trenchworks. Strangeness ensues.
>R-Point
Vietnam Military horror: S.Korean troops in Vietnam as part of the US war effort are sent on a rescue/recon mission to an island off Vietnam, from where a distress signal has been received. Problem is that outpost was reportedly wiped out 6 months earlier.
>Shutter (not the US remake): Thai everyday horror. Professional photographer starts seeing strange shit in his prints.
>The Bunker
WW2 military horror: A squad of German troops fleeing the American advance take shelter in a bunker with an ominous reputation.
this and too.

I dunno which of the "classics" you've seen but there always
>The Exorcist
>The Thing
>Alien
>The Haunting (1963; NOT the 1999 one).

If you were to watch one on this list that you've not yet seen, then I'd recommend the 1963 Haunting.
Holy shit.
It's black and white, but don't let that deter.
It's still spoopy.

I'm particularly partial to R-Point for some reason; it's not perfect, it's not a "must see" like The Exorcist or The Thing or any of those other classics, but it sure does have its moments, it really does.

watched Dagon just now, couldve been better, but the lack of budget shows in the cgi, still much better than what I was hoping

>>Woman In Black (1, 2's just a cash grab)
Oh I forgot to list this one.
I agree about the 2nd, but the first is rather good.
Same goes for the old TV movie version.
(and the play, and the novel).
There was a thread about it last week.
This film did something well, and I'm not quite sure how to put it into words.
I'll try:
You know spoopy shit goes down at eel marsh. You know the protag knows. And yet he still has to do it.
I suppose it's just "dread"; you know the inevitable is soon to happen and you sure as shit wouldn't want to be that character that has to go through with whatever it is that they must go through.

Oh, also
>Silent Hill.
Forget the shitty sequel.
>Kairo.
Don't watch the hollywood remake, Pulse.
>Night of the Hunter
Perhaps that's more of a "thriller", though. I found parts horrifying enough.

>>The Bunker
>WW2 military horror: A squad of German troops fleeing the American advance take shelter in a bunker with an ominous reputation.
Seconding this.
It's a more subtle... comfy even version of Deathwatch.
And it's one of the few horror movies that convincingly never really answers if what is going on is supernatural or not.

Pic related American cover art for it makes it look really cheap, but it's damn good.

What really got me was the atmosphere in the second half; the first half is almost all setup and didn't have me very interested, but after that it's pure payoff.
Some of the most atmospheric haunted house sp00k1ness I've ever enjoyed.
And I like how they had the balls to go with a melancholic ending instead of the typical happy conclusion.

OP here, thanks for all the suggestion anons, will save the suggestions and go through them all in time, but I think I will go for either The Haunting (1963 version as the user pointed out) since I had no idea that the movie I watched was in fact a remake of an older movie, or R-Point since the premise sounds interesting. WIll decide after dinner

Ofc. if anyone wants to add any further suggestions please do so, my horror list can always get bigger

Holy shit I never saw such a cover.
Just watched the film on a stream after looking for some more military horror.
I would've just though it was just another nazi zombies type deal.

And on that note, there's always
>The Outpost

Agreed on all you said.
>Some of the most atmospheric haunted house sp00k1ness I've ever enjoyed.
A really good comeback film for Hammer.
I knew the story pretty well, having read the book, seen the stage play, and having watched the old film.
But that second night.
I mean, I knew what was coming.
And it was still spoopsy.

DOG SOLDIERS.

Also I forgot to add, that I did watch the majority of the reccomended movies and a suggestion of my own to other anons if they didn't see it would be: Pandorum. Definetly one of the better sci-fi horror movies I have seen, and kind of a hidden gem I guess since the marketing for it was abysmal if I remember correctly and it didn't do to well in tehe box office

If you just want a "quickie" as an aperitif, I would look at
>>Oculus
But not the full hollywood film.
Oculus was based off a short film, maybe 15/20 mins, I can't remember.
Maybe it's because I saw it first, but I've found that short film more memorable than the full production hollywood movie based off it with the typical massive budget.

>Pandorum. Definetly one of the better sci-fi horror movies I have seen, and kind of a hidden gem I guess since the marketing for it was abysmal if I remember correctly and it didn't do to well in tehe box office
I was shocked after having watched it because I had never heard of the damn film before.
I think I might've seen a trailer for it once, but when it came for the theatrical release, I didn't see it and haven't met anyone who did.

Shame. Like you said, good film.
I presume you've seen
>Event Horizon
?

>nazi zombies
Speaking of them, Shockwaves (1977) is solid. No gore but great island location, decent cast. The Zombies are very eerie and robotic in a Michael Myers kinda way.
Peter Cushing is wasted but still a welcome addition.

Interesting. I've never seen a poo horror before.
They don't stop and start dancing and singing intermittently, do they?

>Trench 11
This wasn't bad at all.
I like military horror, so watching was a given, but you can tell that they didn't have such an expansive budget, but they did well with what they had regardless.
It's kind of a trope now though, I mean, it's almost akin to "The Outpost" but a WW1 version of it.
