Never heard this but will definitely be checking it out.

Been on a Mingus tip since a few threads ago

This band is absolutely mind-blowing. It's a bunch of ex-Mingus band mates (you can hear them on the albums Changes One and Changes Two. Incredible swing and rhythm yet with excursions into the avant-garde. Only Don Pullen could play changes with glissandi.

Mingus at Antibes
Bill Evans Montreux (67?)

Dark Magus
I actually need live jazz album recs. I’ve really only checked out Miles’ fusion stuff.
I take it these 3 would be good to start? Is the Seattle Love Supreme album from last year worth hearing?

>Seattle love supreme
only if you're a superfan. recording quality is a real barrier to entry.

if you're looking for recs check out Cannonball Adderley at The Club, Full House by Wes, and Waltz for Debby/Sunday at the Village Vanguard

The sound quality was shocking considering how much Impulse hyped it up. It's a Coltrane album where Coltrane is barely audible.

I really like Coltrane’s ballads and his collaboration with Duke Ellington. What are some albums or live performances that are similar? Fun exploring but not too bombastic.

who is a must see musician that is very likely going to die soon (still playing publicly)

Herbie Hancock. He probably has 10 years left before he dies but who knows how long his playing will still be powerful.

Wayne Shorter too but his capabilities are noticeably diminished.

This gets good about halfway through when the solos start to have a lot more space.

based Mingus bro

Where to start with Mingus?

Hello, I want to practice improv/transcribe some stuff and I'm looking for tunes that modulate within a "chord loop". Preferably switching between two/max. three keys/modes repeatedly.

Examples:
youtu.be/dQTtUmmjqbI?list=PLZQyYtnEBu337QjjW5LE3meBKzuAxzzPW&t=18 this one doesn't have enough soloing to transcribe

youtube.com/watch?v=S6IB_nGpKBY this one would be great if there weren't so many keys

I would prefer tunes with this kind of UK-jazz/fusion/afrobeat sound but anything is welcome.

If we're counting live albums, Ugetsu. Otherwise, probably Free for All.
