because thats the best its got and thats utter shit.
Vaporwave will be regarded as the next big cultural movement after post-modernism. The way the newer generations think of the late last century and early 2000's is truly marvelous and I don't think there was ever a bigger generation discrepancy (internet playing a huge role in it) - vaporwave is what is left of that huge gap - some sort of a lost generation, but I might be falling in the "only 90's kids would understand" trap too much.
Part of the beauty of vaporwave is that you can pretty much stay anonymous and just do what you do (something that wosx did to a larger scale, with his Antifur) - vaporwave is like the Yea Forums of music in the most romantic way possible; you're just a tabula rasa and everything people needs to know about you is the music. in the real world you could be a saint or a war criminal, but here you're nothing but your music and what you're willing to reveal - something that in some ways is the epitome of art - everyone is treated equally, regardless of the background and formal education - this is very reminiscent of the art circles we learned about in school, just some artistic inclined ppl with similar views about the world living a bohemian life and making their art only that instead of fancy taverns they roam on discord servers and the like. Ppl think vaporwave is dead but the communities are very active and new stuff is coming out almost daily and the quality standard is getting better and better.
too radical of a departure from the late 00's/early 10's hangover period
/thread.
Vaporwave is just beginning. Like alluded to it’s an entire art movement/language rather than just a music genre. You will continue to see vaporwave-inspired works and works with vaporwave themes/imagery for decades to come.
Lol no
nice argument faggot but let me give you some food for thought: why do threads like "why is vaporwave dead" keep popping when something can only die once? this is the same meme as "punk is dead" but if you actually look it up punk is doing fine. just because normies with their greek statues left doesn't mean that it's over for the genre
>Ppl think vaporwave is dead but the communities are very active and new stuff is coming out almost daily and the quality standard is getting better and better.
I will never understand how people would say that Vaporwave is dead.
CLEARLY they aren't in the community like AT ALL.
They thought: ahh Macintosh Plus was pretty neat, but then there's nothing.
However what most people also don't know is that Lo-Fi is essentially a microgenre of Vaporwave.
But it did? The '''''chill'''' music trend started with it and then the whole aesthetic can bw stilñ felt to this day, simpsonwave and alñ, the chorusy-neon sounds/aesthetic associeated with it too
To this day the David statue is still a meme asociated with vaperwave trendhoppers stupidity AND the real vaperwave anticonsumeristic sentiment
because normalfags got filtered
Floral Shoppe is one of the greatest albums of all time
not to mention the influence it had on the mainstream artists

ppl just don't see #vaporwave or whatever on their feed and assume it doesn't exist anymore. some of the best vaporwave comes from recent times not to mention the barber beats craze

how do I get into the vaporwave community?
literally go to vapor memory on youtube and join their discord. they organize a stream every week or so with member submitted music. also a good place to discuss the genre, discover artists etc. take it from there
vaporwave was chopped&screwed for pretentious white faggots like you
instead of listening to vaporwave just listen to the original songs they're pitching down
internet era music IS and will ALWAYS BE dogshit
people hating on it so much are just proving my point here great art was never truly appreciated by contemporary public, except for the artists themselves and the people involved in art.
this is also a very healthy thing for the community and the quality of the music itself. nowadays it's only the most dedicated ppl remaining that REALLY like it so the quality of the releases increased considerably over the years. good luck submitting a demo to a major dedicated label, they get flooded weekly with submissions
because it was intentionally internet driven and obscure. i have no idea why you'd ever think it could become mainstream in any meaingful way. where would they play it? in the club?
doesn't carry out a satanic agenda
it did in a sense, the aesthetic of vaporwave was pretty much interwoven into late 2010s advertisement and online designs MTV did it a fuck ton. Sure most people won't know Macintosh Plus but people will know the music and know the iconography which is pretty good for a genre that 'died' in 2011
Interesting take
>you're just a tabula rasa and everything people needs to know about you is the music
I'm not too familiar with the genre, but it doesn't seem like the music would reveal much about the person. Based on what I've heard, it's very formulaic and nostalgia-fueled.
yeah, what I meant is that unlike any other genre, the large majority of vaporwave musicians are just an alias and that's pretty much everything you know about them. so they can create an artistic persona without any connection with their real life.
I think the success of death grips was linked to this a lot, you pretty much don't know anything about the musicians (especially mc ride). if you found out he supported x politician or is part of whatever thing you don't like, you wouldn't have liked him that much, but since you don't know anything else about him, he's just mc ride, the angry black guy who screams in your eardrums for your pleasure and you love(>implying) him
>great art was never truly appreciated by contemporary public
yes it was; this is just what shitty artists tell themselves to cope
yeah, whatever, there are exceptions but it feels like I'm trying to prove you that vaporwave is good or something
it's fine if you don't like it, but there is a niche that really like it and that's all
Chopped and screwed is way better than vaporwave
I see. Yeah, the mystery is usually more interesting than what the artists have to say, whether it's vaporware musicians or novelists or whatever.
Unfortunately, you're less likely to gain recognition if you don't put yourself out there. People wanna be able to look through the artist's social media and watch their interviews on YouTube and whatnot.
I know, it's all part of the charm. I make music under 4 aliases which greatly alienates my "fanbase" and there are ppl way better than me that have less listens/supporters. I guess it's a fitting fate for the vaporwave artist. we sample music people forgot about only to be forgotten again
Made by tranny
you're really running out of bad things to say aren't you?
anyway, who /barberbeats/ here?
youtu.be
Vaporwave is the music equivalent of stoners who have nothing in their life besides extensive knowledge of weed strains (few of which they can afford), and an endless chain of unskilled jobs.
You get bored of it quickly.
youtube.com
Is this vaporwave? If not what genre is it, I really like it.
the visuals definitely hit the mainstream in part because of the mid 10's 80s revivalism movement, but MTV was lifting vaporwave aesthetics for years during that time period, and there were definitely online content creators that were cribbing from vaporwave's image around the same period that people were doing the exact same thing to OutRun/Synthwave. it's currently happening with darkwave
>Lo-Fi is essentially a microgenre of Vaporwave.
never knew that guided by voices were vaporwave
>I will never understand how people would say that Vaporwave is dead. CLEARLY they aren't in the community like AT ALL.
are zoomers even sentient? do they seriously believe that a discord server full of 12-year-old trannies means anything?

Trapper keeper aesthetics
Vaporwave isn't dead by any sense but I think there is an overabundance of low effort vaporwave detritus that people spew out. Its the grunge of our generation. A fake genre held together by a fake idea and a vague image.
Some artists have the potential to but I think they need to stray away from the "vaporwave image and ethos"
It was literally tranny music.
I miss classic vaporwave
youtube.com
>Its the grunge of our generation
You realize grunge was popular right?
where did I say it wasn't? why are you bringing this up?
also grunge is not a real genre
Fuck this nigga for sampling my girl
You're comparing a style of music that revolutionized everything to a musical genre that literally isn't known outside of very obscure circles like this on. I mean you can go with that, but it's kind of sad.
>also grunge is not a real genre
Why, because grunge bands didn't all sound exactly alike? Lol. Ok.
>Why, because grunge bands didn't all sound exactly alike? Lol. Ok.
lol why are you arguing with people in your head?
Grunge is just alt rock that was marketed with a particular image attached to it. Similarly Vaporwave is just electropop with a particular image attached to it.
Also vaporwave is far bigger than you think. You are really out of touch if you think its something only known to small circles.
you should really look around you kid
Vaporwave was huge as fuck. Just because it wasn't in the charts doesn't mean it wasn't massive.
>You are really out of touch if you think its something only known to small circles.
Ok then...post sales figs. Where them gold certified vaporwaves at? Platinum? Diamond. Or more like they sold 2000 copies in the USA, and that's why the genre died.
>you should really look around you kid
It sounds to me like you never look outside of the mu bubble actually.
the diana ross macintosh plus song got botted to over 9000mil views on youtube, this is totally evidence that vaporwave is a MASSIVE genre and spread organically without any shilling!!!!!!
Kek
why are you talking out of your ass so much? literally every physical release, even from the most obscure artist gets sold out in days, sometimes in hours. also,
>good music has to sell well
god just please let this thread die I'm cringing so much at how ignorant some ppl are
t. newfag
you need to go outside dude
I don't care anymore lol
>sold out in days, sometimes hours
Wooo Jeffy they sold all 500 physical copies !!!!! !!!!
>I'm cringing
Vaporgays tend to do that a lot.
great good for you go back to your general now
I'm happy y'all hate vaporwave, nobody would want you there anyway
>even from the most obscure artist gets sold out in days, sometimes in hours. also,
LMAO. literally everyone knows you can bleed trannies out of their money by scalping shitty rymcore. i've done it a dozen times with my friends and made about $2k in profits
when did I say I hated vaporwave? like I said you are arguing with people in your mind. read my first post
>y'all
>ppl
>cringing
Like...... I cannot even. Just. This...so much fr fr skskfkskfkksfhsk
I'm sorry user you are samefagging so hard I lost track
I don't even know who's meming who anymore
what? lol whatever I need to meet my gf for breakfast
yeah man can't leave the poor girl with her dick unsucked
>Grunge is just alt rock
yaya grunge, as the way the early 90s media portrayed it, was quite artificial; but it was a meaningful descriptor of the changing face of rock music at the time. Alt-rock was generally more jangly in the 80s and morphed into the wretched whiny wail that became known as "grunge". Even if it is not a 'genre', it is a useful descriptor of aural texture. It's been retrofitted to describe Neil Young's electric style, or Australian rock* that likely influenced the "Seattle sound"
youtu.be
hell, I've heard it effectively used to describe early dubstep on the verge before it became brostep.
it's hella associated with vapor. The lineage is more Far Side Virtual than eccojams or Floral Shoppe though. It's essentially a cheeky recreation of classic new age music. Check out this OG classic of that genre and tell if it scratches the itch
youtu.be
can we get truly anonymous and make this a vocaroo drop thread? I have virtually nothing on this computer but i found this peculiar accident
vocaroo.com
came from some defective configuration of recording my soundcard. I have no idea how to recreate it. made Dylan sound hella demonic
It's as mainstream as it's going to get. "famous" Tiktok zoomers literally used Teen Pregnacy in some stupid meme last year
Eyeliner is one of my all time faves and damn, this Kitaro is sick.
Nice vocaroo too, I don't have much to post that hasn't been published on one of my bandcamps, but here's a shitty unfinished version of macarena
voca.ro
was about to mention earlier, the windows 95 aesthetic is also fairly popular amongst zoomers
it has influenced mainstream culture plenty, but in a way that is inconspicuous. I see chuds wearing vaporwave influenced t-shirts and when you explain what they are wearing they are terrified, often never to wear that article again. Maybe it isn't exactly even influencing mainstream culture but is just part of the same modern impulse that fetishizes nostalgia and produces landfills of remakes and rehashes of intellectual properties. Instead of 'culture jamming', it's more like history jamming; "what if x but with 80s cgi?". Sometimes I wonder if the goal of vapor is to eternally confuse future history students
lol, slow macarena is such a silly vibe.
>AAAIIIIHHH
yeah but I mean to me this album is more like crystal castles type shit thatswhy zoomers love it do they even know it's vaporwave? they probably think its a new album
