How do you find what books to read?
Work. Find out what genre you like (scifi, fantasy, etc) then just go on google and search for "classic scifi novels" or popular, best selling, etc. Once you find an author you like, look up what books that author recommends and go from there. Go on Yea Forums or other forums and make a thread asking for good recommendations. Go to a book store and go through the genre aisle and read the summary of every book (covers are useless for judging quality) and write down the ones that sound interesting. Get an Audible account and like the books you enjoy, it will recommend similar books for you and you can listen to books while driving/doing other shit. But most importantly, dont be afraid of taking a chance on a new series. I didnt like 50% of the books I tried and thats normal. Dont let yourself get lazy and stop looking for new shit. Just like all entertainment, the good stuff is buried under a pile of garbage you have to sift through.

One of the main plot points in the story is racial tension.
However, in the world of the Expanse people are generally pretty mutted at this point and the real conflict is between groups of humans that have lived in different conditions for so long that they are physicall different from their counterparts on mars/earth/belt.
When someone is 7 foot tall, thin as a rail and can't stand up in a gravity well you're going to hold that against them before you notice that their brown...their skin/race in the classic sense is irrelevant.
Having a diverse cast actually highlights how different but the same their world is to ours.
Race conflict is still a thing, just not in the way we imagine it.
Kinda sucks they can't do lanklet belters justice on tv though.

All "hard" sci fi (which is just sci-fi, no need for hard), has elements of fiction, but real sci-fi doesn't over do the fiction. The Expanse still has, or at least did until the end of last season, more sci than it does fi. Not like star trek or other "sci-fi" space shows that are far more fi than sci.

How do you count that, screentime showing magic < screentime showing non-magic? Of course every scifi needs some fi to work, for example in this case it'd be the constant acceleration drive, but when the centerpiece, the most important element of the setting, the motivation of every important character, is literally magic, and you can solve apocalypse-tier problems will love, I don't think "hard sci-fi" is an accurate description.

It takes a long time to actually discover how the protomolecule works and what it does which takes place over several novels.
I guess its the whole 'magic and advanced science are indistinguishable from each other' trope but it is the mystery element of the series.
The point is you have this very real human world with human technology and human politics but the 'magic' throws a wrench into it

Then the UN counter-invasion would drob millions of expendable grunts on Mars where they'd all have super-strength compared to the natives and fight like devils because they're all former slum kids with nothing to lose, unlike the highly educated and pampered Martians, so Martian habitat domes would just turn into massive orgies of rape after UN victory until their military police could restore order.

Mars is basically setting itself up to be Nazi Germany vs Soviet Union 2.0.

In the books the character is terribly written. The writers clearly haven't actually met/got to know anyone with an actual rough background and/or violent streak, Amos comes across like a kid trying to act hard on the playground.
