The Orville

i bet they blew the entire season's budget on this two-parter and the remaining 5 episodes of the season will be lame.

It looked fantastic, though. And that final act was incredible.

this two parter is great, wish it was a back to back
reminds me of Geth and Quarian

>Geth and Quarian
Getting a similar vibe. The latest episode was surprisingly good. Looking forward to Part 2. Is the crew gonna hate Isaac from now on, or is he pretending to be on Kaylon's side & planning to sabotage the invasion?

He's not likely to survive part 2 imho senpai

It's not actually Issac.

He's such a major part of the cast that I can't see him not winding up a good guy again, but how that'll happen is anyone's guess.

The nuke orbs--and the fact that they made a point of telling us their entire civilisation is currently confined to that one planet--are a convenient way to stop the rest of the cylons, so presumably they'll be hacked or something, and presumably he'll be instrumental in that.

Let's just hope it's not the power of love that changes his mind or something gay like that.
But this show is too smart for that faggotry so I doubt it.

Remember how Picard defeated the Borg after the battle at Wolf 359? They're going to pull the same trick here. We saw them remotely deactivate Isaac via a signal from their world so we know it's possible to do the same to them. All we need is for Isaac to regain his senses, realize that his people must be stopped and send out a signal to mass deactivate them, sacrificing himself in the process.

It seems like they want/need the Orville itself for some reason, otherwise they would have just killed them all at the start of the episode and wouldn't have bothered with the delay tactics.

It could just be to bluff their way close to Earth etc, but presumably they're mighty enough that they don't really need to do that though. Hopefully it's not just a test or something, that'd suck.

Yeah but it's too obvious. "We uploaded a virus to the Borg lol roll credits" was a fucking cop-out every time Trek did it.

I kinda hope they stick around as antagonists desu. I'm not a huge fan of the eye-guns but apart from that they'd be a cool recurring enemy.
Maybe the Krill will come to the rescue and keep them occupied

That's a possibility.
Did I mis-hear it or did they refer to "Isaac" as Prime near the end?

>Yeah but it's too obvious. "We uploaded a virus to the Borg lol roll credits" was a fucking cop-out every time Trek did it.
True but remember Brannon Braga cowrote this so we know he's going to write some shitty ending no matter what.

I think all the Kaylon near Earth get fried, including Isaac and they rebuild him as an android that looks like his human form from the simulator.

The Union lacks the tech to rebuild him. However, it's possible he will upload himself into the ship's computer and then exist solely as an AI with physical interaction only possible within the simulator. At least until they build a portable holo-emitter...

>looks better than an MCU movie
wew

Just re-watched it.
It happens just off-screen and it's (intentionally?) ambiguous but it's definitely possible that we were hearing the process of the Primary or a goon transforming into "Isaac" right before the crew arrive.

Which might imply that he was shut down not because his mission was over, but because he caught feelings from the kids--which yeah might mean the real one could come save the day, but interestingly him getting corrupted might also have been the actual trigger for them to decide the biologicals were going to inhibit their evolution.

>and they rebuild him as an android that looks like his human form from the simulator.
They'd better fucking not.

>Brannon Braga cowrote this so we know he's going to write some shitty ending no matter what.
Letting Braga write an episode and then completely re-writing it to not suck would be a great process for making Orville episodes, hahaha

>cylons
I miss it too user

They're literally Cylons spelled with a K, bro.
More of a reference to the original BSG than the remake though.

So, how aware do you think Seth McFarlane is that a lot of this show's fans see it as carrying the torch for Star Trek in the absence of a good official Star Trek show? Do you feel like it is evolving into a more straight sci-fi series as it goes on, in contrast to the initial marketing pitch of it being a spoof?

Personally I don't think it even is a spoof.
I think it's literally Star Trek in disguise, and the parody angle is a facade to kind of trojan horse around established expectations, and to let Discovery do it's own weird shitty mirror universe gimmick thing.

There's just too many Trek people involved, and there's no fucking way the timing with Discovery and they way the two even seem to subtly play off one another sometimes is a coincidence.

That's exactly how I've seen it going. I honestly didn't like most of the episodes so far this season, but it definitely feels like it's taking itself more seriously which is great. The episodes I did like were far above anything STD has to offer and beat out most other Trek series besides the big 3 for me too. It still has a lot of comedy elements, even if most of them fall completely flat, but I think Seth knows what the fans think.

I don't usually like the man and I don't know much about the show's production so I might be attributing undue credit here, but I'm glad he's having fun with his LARP while also making it the Trek we deserve.

It's a terrible fanfiction version of star trek and its hilarious that it's devolving so rapidly into yet another boring SCI FI WAR show. Meanwhile I'm rewatching DS9 and am still amazed how such a low budget 1990s show with literal who actors managed to produce such incredible episodes like Duet.

Is this show really carry Star Trek's torch? Because desu, it looks fucking gay. McFarlan isn't that funny and is terrible as an actor. Whenever people post about this it's always lame jokes or gags. Things that are "funny" in same way Marvel movies are.

Well you're a dumb faggot and you should try actually watching the show before you form an opinion on it, dingus.
If you like Trek, you'll like Orville. It's literally TNG but with a far better gold:shit episode ratio.

You're probably just some viral marketer trying to trick someone into convincing people to watch it though, so fuck you.

I’m genuinely curious how they’re going to salvage Isaac after this. I’m guessing he’s actually not the one claiming to be Isaac or something and will come to save the day in the end

That's pretty obvious. He acted nothing like Issac and the kid was adamant that it wasn't him.

>it looks fucking gay
>t. seething STD cuck
