This is thread for general discussion of Alita: Battle Angel. Post and discuss your thoughts on the movie, pics/gifs/webms related and relevant info/rumors/news.
It flopped bros, it's time for us to go back to our subreddit
Charles Martinez
This is it, boys. The weekend that determines the fate of this film and potential sequel(s). Let's hope the Chinese love it just as much as they did Bumblebee and Ready Player One.
Andrew Bell
Alternatively a bunch of anons just saw a movie they really liked and enjoy talking about it. Probably not though, it must involve chemtrails somehow.
>Probably not though, it must involve chemtrails somehow. This, people can't possibly like a movie with a female lead, that is not Captain Marvel, seeing as that's not kosher.
Angel Rivera
Again, we can't determine that until Tuesday. Also, fuck off back to /r/eddit.
Jennifer Connelly in 3D; has our civilization peaked?
When people say things like “China has made *us*” 20 million, I wonder if it’s Fox shills or just fellow rabid fans. I mean, we were happy to let Scientologists think we were paid by “big pharma” to laugh at Xenu, so I’ll happily let Disney think the same.
>Netflix Enjoy Alita being a nigger midget with a beard who identifies as a 7ft tall blonde transman.
Easton Fisher
been trying to discuss it there, its so godamn slow
Chase Nguyen
No, I just want one sequel, just to tie up some things and end on a more positive note. I mean, a third movie would be cool, but then that would depend on the sequel's performance.
Isaiah Jenkins
AoT is much bigger in Japan, and it's a Japanese movie to boot.

It's well known that the ones behind these threads aren't from this site they get upset at dated pastas, cry about /pol/ and get mad when you tell them to leave

>Disney´s Alita 2 >boyega is alita´s sideck Director: Steven S. DeKnight
Domestically they will be roughly on par. Overseas is where the difference will come, and no surprise given how long and slow BR2049 is.
Lincoln Allen
>Blade Runner 2049 br 2049 prolly launder some dollars for alcon entertainment.
Hunter Thomas
Are we getting a sequel bros?
Cameron Hill
Oh yeah, domestically, Alita is making almost the exact same money as BR2049. But China alone is going to make a gigantic difference. If it hits 400 to 450 million within the next month, I say yes.
Daniel Evans
yes but its going to be pacific rim 2 tier hence my joke in this post

i can't explain it, there's just something...special about this movie and hopefully series. i guess it's refreshing from all the capeshit and hollywood in general i've been conditioned to. i fucking love this movie and come check on Yea Forums and see the same zeal. so much so i'm currently rewatching some shit xbet rip.
That is what I'm trying to say. My mom is a "technology" teacher, in every course there's always a few little girls literally searching "how to fuck" videos.
Benjamin Reed
It's so fucking refreshing, I'm so goddamn sick of capeshit and other bullshit the media hype up and then audiences lap up as a result. Finally, a fucking blockbuster with heart and risk taking. China will get us that sequel.
It needed more quips for the RT bloggers. It failed to spoonfeed the deeper themes and plot points so those spilled all over their laps. And I don’t recall it doing anything to make a viewer feel smug or superior. Triple fail. Why does he pretend to have taste?
I bet someone from Japan will end up holding the record for most Alita viewings. Japanese can get very fanatical. Wouldn't be surprised in a fan in Japan has been watching showings back to back since its release.
Adrian Russell
Disappointing tiddies
Christopher Taylor
It's in Chinese currency, but the question is what number is important? The 152 million or 120 million? 'Cause it could be a difference of 17 million US dollars Friday or 22 million US dollars Friday.
Michael Sanchez
>Finally, a fucking blockbuster with heart and risk taking it could've easily been ruined by toning down the absolute weirdness of it (like the big eyes, cheesy lines) but they didn't, they just fucking went all in with no irony and it gives it such a genuine vibe.

So, uh, I guess according to my calculations, Alita: Fighting Angel, as of 11:00 a.m. Saturday, has grossed 26 million dollars. At least that's what I got out of this. If anyone wants to crack at this more, here you go:
>cave the jokers skull in >decapitate prostitute >drop f bomb >brutally weld asians face >chop in half black sidekick >unapologetically kill off characters >pg13
Burgers only watch capeshit, slasher movies and kiddie cartoons.
Brandon Ward
but my favorite manga is Berserk

I had to go to the washroom during the bar scene, can anyone tell me what happened? I walked back in to the theater and everyone was fighting for no reason.
Nathaniel Bennett
She basically challenged everybody in the room to a fight.
Robert Rodriguez
It's also going to make more than the remake RoboCop which wasn't rated R either despite the sauce material.
Alita was still pushing it with stuff like camera lingering on the cut in two black guy.

I just got back from seeing Alita for the second time and I almost had a heart attack when a little girl shouted **SHE'S SOOO PRETTY!!!** when you first ssee her in bed. Fucking amazing.
Berserk is cool and all but it has very little on BAA. Give it a read, you should understand the appeal by the end of the first one. Alita came in and exchanged some banter with Zapan, who in turn pointed out she wasn't one of them just for getting a licence which led to Alita breaking his nose. She then asked the room to join her in fighting the beeg Yoshi which led to laughter. Finally she went with challenging the whole room saying that if she beat them they had to join her and proceeded to fuck with two guys unprompted.
Brayden Davis

It is confirmed, it made ¥132 million or 19 million US on Friday, I think without Thursday previews. And word of mouth is fucking overwhelmingly positive over there right now.
>Alita will never use her berserker body's shape-changing nanotechnology to grow a two foot metallic horse cock and peg your boipucci to death with it like Mr. Hands.
Berserk is better than Alita but it's on hiatus for six months again, which is fucking frustrating.

At least it won't be a total flop in the US, just an overall disappointment. The narrative will be that it exceeded expectations. 95 million for a movie like this ain't so bad.
Brody Ortiz
Am I a pleb for thinking this movie was really good? The motorball scene was so exciting I couldn't stop grinning in the theater. The biggest problems were the fuccboi love interest and hamfisted romance but other than that the worldbuilding and designs of the cyborgs looked incredible. If you removed the greasy haired faggot the movie would be a 9/10 for me, barring some corny dialogue with Chiren and Victor.
>"Audiences, film critics, sci-fi fans and original fans are all gave praises. There are quite a few viewers who are screaming "blow out". "This is the top level of the Hollywood film industry."

Nolan Butler
>barely making it to 60% on rotten tomatoes >mouse shills like it LMAO. Try harder mouseshill. You know that Alita is gonna shit all over Captain Marvel.
Chase Diaz
Thank fucking God for that. We live in an age of corporate control who much deliver all their products in a "safe" and "tested" way which inevitably dilutes the product to such a point that it's worth nothing anymore. Allowing suits any amount of creative control is among the biggest mistakes humanity has ever made.
Evan Cruz
Do you guys ever get tired of coming in here and spouting doomer shit?
>RT If thats what you want to go with then sure lets talk about this now If mouseshills are progressive SJWs then why did they rate this so highly when it shows roasties as low IQ, indians as the savages they were and complete lack of forced diversity? don't reply yet
Should have pissed during the kiddies rollingballing in the street early on. You blew it. The bar scene is a pivotal moment in the plot and for Alita's character development.
Adrian Hall
>uncanny You're one to talk, ever look in a mirror? Or did they cover them all up where you live?
Aaron Jones
Should've used a > then.
Ryan Brooks
Yes, and the movie isn't even as coy as the books about the why and gives you large chunks of her origin story right away. Irontown is a violent place and Alita is made for combat.
Connor Sanders
t. neckbeard incel
Parker Cox
Also why did mouseshills rate a movie where a white characters are strong and completely shits on a roastie trying to fix him? while the so called non mouseshill audience hated it?
Maybe because it isn't a movie with a strong female lead in direct competition with the mouse's own movie with a """strong""" female lead. Keep trying to wriggle your way out of this though mouseshill.
Brandon Evans
That must be it
Zachary Foster
Again, this plus it is well known that liberal feminist women love the whole "bad boy" persona and thought it was very romantic. Keep talking out of your ass though.

i agree that it only produces generic, bland, banal bullshit, but in the other hand, it makes sense to trust a team of marketers in any 100+ million dollar project blockbuster movies never will be an author's media. even small indie films are just unremarkable safe bullshit nowadays
Depends. Original run yes, extended no. He even becomes somewhat of an ally to Alita in that, though not in the way you are imagining right now.
Bentley Collins
Mind you Paige is a """victim""" of the fappening too
Matthew Smith
Because again, that isn't in competition with their movie. It is a family movie rather than a strong female protagonist movie. Get it through your thick skull.
David Martin
The philosophy that should be adhered to is to let each do their job as they are able. More often than not now, you have suits coming in and overstepping their bounds as executives or what have you and trying to enforce their own "creative vision" or "decisions" because their ego is too fat, and the creative team has to abide because he ranks higher on the food chain than them.
Do what you're good at, not what you think you're good at. Stupid suits.
I wish in the extended cut they go more with exploring how shit the city is. It was full on Dredd tier grimdark in the manga.
Jackson Williams
>11 Captain Marvel threads up

>that isn't in competition with their movie >Feb 14, 2019 That shares the same release date as Alita >that isn't in competition with their movie. It is a family movie rather than a strong female protagonist movie It's both just like they're painting their movie
Ian Russell
Would a sequel theoretically be doable from an plot adaptation perspective?
Ayden Rivera
It isn't in competition with Captain Marvel BECAUSE it is a family movie not because of the release date. They are aiming for entirely different audiences. In the fucking screenshot you posted it says outright that it is about a family. Whatever you're getting paid to shill, it's too much, because you're a special kind of retard.
Nathan Howard
But China looks great? Fuck off with your Fake News.
Joseph Lopez
They already wrote the sequel. They have a script ready to shoot.
Connor Ortiz
My company had a movie outing yesterday to celebrate the completed move to the new office. A couple of guys from my department lobbied the chief to watch IMAX for a change and he agreed. That's 74 tickets for Alita on IMAX, $15 a pop.
I prefer it this way. Seemed more real this way. Still deadly, almost lawless and full of corruption but the people living there found a way of life still. Manga version always felt a bit too shit to support a stable population to me. Maybe a little more Grimdark but not too much.
Levi Perry
>It is a family movie rather than a strong female protagonist movie >FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY is a heartwarming comedy based on the incredible true story of WWE Superstar Paige(TM). Born into a tight-knit wrestling family, Paige and her brother Zak are ecstatic when they get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try out for WWE. But when only Paige earns a spot in the competitive training program, she must leave her family and face this new, cut-throat world alone. Paige's journey pushes her to dig deep, fight for her family, and ultimately prove to the world that what makes her different is the very thing that can make her a star >Paige's journey pushes her to dig deep, fight for her family, and ultimately prove to the world that what makes her different is the very thing that can make her a star It is a roastie propaganda movie and a family movie just like how they're painting captain marvel
Captain Marvel is not being marketed as a family film. Why are you trying so hard to pretend that the two are going for the same audience. Anyone with half a brain can watch the trailers are promotional material and can tell you they are aiming for two different audiences. Meanwhile Alita was unlucky enough to be aiming for the same audience as the Mouse, who's revenue predictions are already plummeting because of the Brie's retardation.
Connor Cook
>trailers are promotional material *and

Pitty we only saw the Motorball suit for a few seconds in the end, it's my favourite suit from the Mangas and I love the adaptation. Next one I guess.

they dislike fun. You have to portray a strong message that fits CURRENT YEAR philosophy, because a timeless movie might be offensive at some point.
Zachary Thompson
What if Ido gave Alita blonde hair like Alita 1.0? He didn't know how she originally looked after all.
Adam James
Lot of reasons, but what I noted is it's traditionalism. Females can't be sexy, badass, ignorant, or feminine. They have to be mute, no-male needing, obnoxious, unsexy Brie Larson types. Journalists have no reason to defend Alita, so they won't.
Lucas Johnson
>Alita now predicted to earn above 400M globally Sequel incoming lads. We did it.

Well guys, I'm going to head to bed, but I'll be on later tomorrow. Based on my projections from: piaofang.maoyan.com/dashboard?movieId=410629 Alita will be at 30 million US dollars in China by 2 or 3 p.m. on Saturday, which is in a couple hours. That's halfway to 60 million and right before a big Saturday night and Sunday coming. Keep tracking that site, it's kind of fun. It keeps going up and up and up. Have a good night all!
Ok what's the point of this. A list of Marvel movies? Cool but you didn't prove me wrong.
Oliver Morris
How many times have you seen the movie already? Watched it for the third time today and I can't believe how it just gets more enjoyable the more you see it.
Fucking hell Yea Forums bros, ALITA is just too cute and perfect, Hugo was such a lucky guy.
Anyone wanna do the Alita Experience with me in NYC?
Samuel Hernandez
Well, it's now a possibility. Keep checking that site I linked at to watch it go up live. If China continues to throw money at it, and it reaches 150 to 200 million, oh fuck yeah we're getting some kind of sequel.
Juan Sanchez
Twice, third time will be with a family member.
Daniel Watson
Alita niggers are redditors breh. They called everyone dirty pedos when it came put
>using box office forum Just don't. But, that's minimum, if it hits 60 million, 150 million is realistically the minimum, no film has ever dropped hard in China from a 60 million to less than that.

last time a did a theater binge like this was unironically for avatar and dark knight(fight me). going again tomorrow with a friend, the 3D imax experience is truly great but $23 a show is steep although well worth it.
Thanks niggas, I could go for a forth viewing, but I believe it is getting kind of awkward since the staff in there is seeing me watch the same fucking movie every time.
Also, I have a question about Hugo, the fucker had a bunch of hints telling him that Vector was the one behind the attacks on ALITA, why didn't he cut connections with the guy sooner?
I mean, even at the official motorball sequence Vector says that Hugo brought ALITA to them, that wasn't on purpose was it?
Holy fuck, 23 bucks for a viewing? The one I go to is not even close to being 3D imax but I end up paying like 4 bucks per viewing, living in an underdeveloped country helps as well.
Not gonna fight you, but I usually get like this when nostalgia hits (watched the Dragon Ball movie 2 times) or when I see shit that remind me of the teenage love I was not able to live.
>you will never be chad hugo with a naive teen who lusts for you as she will never lust for someone else again because you're her first crush who introduced her to a world she never knew
i would kill all of you to get even a chance at this, you fuckers have no idea
>the fucker had a bunch of hints telling him that Vector was the one behind the attacks on ALITA, why didn't he cut connections with the guy sooner?
He was probably in denial. Remember that to these humans down below life is miserable and Salem is used as a religious "salvation" to them. Vector was the Pope between Iron City and Salem. You need his blessing to go to hea-...I mean Salem. He was probably in denial and didn't want to accept another alternative. He found love with Alita but his obsession with Salem is what eventually drove him to hell and him never being with her. He's one of those zealots that refuses to see alternatives to their intepretation of the world. Alita could have been his Salem but his zealotry wouldn't allow him to see that.
>that wasn't on purpose was it?
Vector may have been the one to tell Hugo to tell Alita to go to the motorball tryouts. Remember, that Vector admitted that he told Hugo he would send him to Salem for bringing Alita to motorball. The truth is that Hugo was more in love with Salem then he was with Alita which is why he couldn't think of alternatives because his zealotry wouldn't allow him to.

I've been working on a post apocalyptic book where machines take over and the human race is extinct. The difference here is that unlike most stories the humans and machines ended on a good note. The human race was dying out and it was the machines time to live.
A bit more bittersweet than your typical story
Nolan Gomez
Oh totally. Go watch the behind the scenes videos. Her expressions match up to a T.
Isaiah Wilson
Surprisingly, it wasn't until my third viewing, which I just got back from actually, that I finally saw Hugo in a different light. The source purists will go on about how Yugo never cared for her and just used her as a means to an end, and had a more fucked up business dealing going on with actual organs, and while this certainly intensifies his character, the translation to the movie version is still fine, even if diluted.
I totally understand why somebody would find fault with the movie version if they're invested already prior with the manga, but on its own merit without taking the manga into account, Hugo is actually just fine.
There were several key lines that he said in the movie that when taken into a broader context of the whole movie, actually make him a good character in my opinion.
Adam Smith
It's pretty obvious Alita is the first waifu of 90% of newfags ITT
in the far future you can live in a shithole and maybe still run into a dog petting cyberwaifu like Hugo did
Michael Torres
it was the fucking eyes! i fucking told you dumb niggers the eyes would make this movie and everyone mocked me saying the eyes would kill it but they literally crack cocaine in a visual form. funnily enough the second time around i paid a lot more attention to alita's facial expressions above all else and man it really does hit you how big of a crush she has on hugo especially how her voice subtly changes AARRRRRRRRRGGGGG
Daniel Ramirez
He also said if he had her ability he would climb up there. Nice little continuity. It was a dog move robbing cyborgs in the street but what can you do
I really enjoyed the movie and hope it does well enough for the inevitable sequel it teases. However my experience was kind of annoying because of the people around me. On to my left was a group of girls who felt the need to have a discussion after every scene (They REALLY enjoyed the kissing scene). On to my right was an annoying group of kids and one of them had already seen the movie and felt the need to spoil scenes before they happened and his Dad wouldn't shut him the fuck up (“Oh this is so sad this is where the Dog dies”) kind of shit.
In case you guys are wondering my cinema was about 65-75% full
Damn, what else did the group of girls say. I only had one major thing happened and that was the second time i watched it and a little girl shouted SHES SOOO PRETTY!! when she first wakes up after the surgery. my heart melted
Austin Robinson
Shit guys, we've been found out. Abort single thread raid and regroup.

Hey Yea Forums, what are some other movies/shows featuring awkward teenage romance like the one found in ALITA?
Truly you are a dedicated man. Reminds me of this one WWII vet who waifu'd Betty Boop before waifuism was even a thing, and kept her to old age.
James Ortiz
Did my part, >tell coworkers at lunch I want to see this movie Alita >they dont know I already watched imax 3d last weekend >"Yeah i heard it was by james Cameron" >one by one they agree to come 6:30 showing >packed house actually @ Flix Brewhouse >was kino. >after the show "that was terrific" >"wow user that was way better than aquaman"
yeah, I feel sorry for him. He's just a product of his environment. He has nothing, not even a family. No indication of his own parents, siblings, ex's. He was alone and the only thing keeping him alive and coping was Salem and the promise.
It's also a possibility that the elites in Salem on purposely keep the humans imprisoned in the iron city as slaves under the lie that the rest of the world is irradiated and unsalvageable. Same as the City of Babel incident in the Bible where Nimrod refused to allow the humans after the flood to spread to the rest of the earth and crowd them in his city so he can control them for his own selfish gain.
A recurring theme in Alita is zealotry, obsession, and the refusal to change. The only person who "repented" was Chiren who realized the alternative that Alita could be her daughter if she wanted to and Ido could take her back and they would be a family again. She realized her Salem could just be Alita and Ido together with her. Immediately, Vector had to have her killed because he lost power over her and Salem lost power over her. Without the belief that anyone can work there way to Salem nobody would slave for Salem anymore. Then they would probably leave to the outside world and look for alternatives. Thus Babel would fall.

Is Alita where Empowered got her huge fish lips? Also what's the context
Jonathan Flores
Just trying to guess what was going to happen throughout the whole movie (Hugo is going to do X and Y to win Alitas heart!) kind of stuff
Nathaniel Stewart
Alita only ever got a very short lived OVA years after the Manga.
luckily I was getting them as they were coming out.
Jeremiah Rivera
I think the two of them are too old and mentally mature by the time their relationship blossoms. In the OVA it's two kids stumbling their way through puppy love, with Hugo mostly clinging to Alita because he's scared and lost and worn-down
Hunter Ward
Only ever did it once and it was for my father that wanted to see Halloween so I treated him.
It's big action bro. It's what the crowd likes. BR is a much more niche film requiring a more "refined" appreciation of the cyberpunk genre. Transformers for most people is big robots duking it out. It's the difference between a bottle of Jack vs. a nice Brandy or Cognac.

The last time i rewatched a movie this much was br2049 lmao. Not even joking. Something about these two movies hits this same exact spot in my soul that I didn't know I had. It's funny, cause it's only the domestic side. Foreign side, this film is doing very good. I don't get it.
Yeah, I'll post for a few minutes here. I'm going to try and make her in Soul Calibur in a bit but I think it'll be futile, especially with no eye adjustments.
Can only speak for my dad. I had a lot of manga growing up with a fixed amount of my allowance reserved for new releases. My dad was always interested and read a few pages of every new one I brought home but never liked any of them, be it basic stuff like Dragonball and Escaflowne or more niche stuff like Heat or Samurai Deeper Kyo. But Alita he immediately took a liking to and read every single one after I was done with them. According to him the characters made sense and there was a good variety of clashing world views which reminded him of his own science fictions growing up.
