I like some of their stuff, but i feel like they try too hard sometimes.
probably getting an album date too if I were to guess

I'm excited
>no organic demand
Having a black drummer/bassist in an otherwise all white band is a racist trope.
/thread
The best thing they've done so far is that KEXP performance, imo. They're definitely better a better live band than a studio one.
youtu.be
This version of Dethroned was fucking amazing, it's such a shame that the studio version completely ruined the vibe with the reverb and lack of saxophone.
They're all great at what they do but Morgan Simpson really is the star of the band, what a fucking great drummer
hype af desu
Yet you cared enough to bump the thread :)
Whatever you say, Jamal
Hopefully LP3 will be a lot better than Cavalcade
Cavalcade was a 9/10
I met the sax player last year dudes insanely cool hope he gets a bigger role on this new album
It is a bit of an eyeroll, but if the band is great (which these guys are) then it's not big deal. What would you rather have the black guy be then?
he's not some fucking token black guy, he's one of the most talented young drummers on the planet
Saw these guys in Philly. Easily the best show I've ever been to. Geordie also randomly stood next to me on the balcony and we chatted for a bit before he went on stage. Amazing show
Sick band and the lads are very cool if you get the chance to talk to them
Soundboard bootleg with a bunch of the new songs:

Fucking HYPED, the new songs sound fucking brilliant, hoping for a whole album all on the same level as Chondro and Slow this time with some of the mania of Schlagenheim back again on tracks like Looney/The Race/Circus, all rests on the production/mixing which Cavalcade was a bit more wobbly on
It was recorded before the KEXP version and they said 'apologies for the lack of horns on album-dethroned' before the album was even out tbf, so they're aware of the fact at least, hopefully we get another live album
I have a bunch of black midi (and other windmill scene bands') rarities in my Soulseek shares, always lossless where available, search my current username Rrobynne Mk. II on there to get the goods
That's my thing. I don't really care that he's black, but I was saying I know a lot of bands where the one black dude is the drummer. But even then idc cos if they're all mates then that's the main thing. He is also a very very good drummer too
Avant prog for impressionable retards and zooms
Why are you upset lmao
where does it say new single on monday?
New Music from Black Midi & Opus Kink
Steve Lamacq
Steve kicks off the week with some brand new music - with new tracks from Black Midi & Opus Kink. Also, Lammo soundtracks you transition from afternoon to evening with a brilliant mix of music, old and new.
They've also changed their homepage to a tetris game that plays a midi version of welcome to hell
Not even the art school kids in London listen to them anymore
so according to that ASCAP registry thing sugar/tzu isn’t on this new album but they’ve been playing it live for like a year and a half now. will it ever get released?
so an 11/10?
Oh fucking boy, I can't WAIT to hear another fucking Britbong reciting his shitty ironic Reddit Keanu Reeves meme poetry over masturbatory elevator jazz instrumentals for like 10 minutes until the song bursts into cacophonous noise at which point RYM [redacted]s will cream their mom's panties because ZOMG SO ABRASIVE I CAN'T WAIT FOR FAT VEGAN FUCK MAN TO GIVE THIS 10/10 AND MY FAVORITE INSTAGRAM Yea ForumsCORE MEME PAGES ARE GOING TO CREATE FUNNY MAYMAYS ABOUT IT. One of these days, some deranged Fall fanboy is going to shoot up a Black Midi/BCNR/Squid concert and I'm just going to be sitting in the background eating popcorn and grinning like Michael Jackson while the soi-infused guts of hipsters splatter everywhere and their high-pitched shrieks fill the room. I don't know who the fuck invented this substyle of post-punk but whoever did needs a swift kick in the balls (if they even have them) and/or a saxophone shoved up their ass. These "Windmill scene" bands like the Powerpuff girls of rock, except they're made of estrogen, shitty Mark E Smith impressions, and nepotism. Shut the fuck up and listen to King Crimson, all of you
Yeah, because they're not pretentious enough. Black Midi hasn't been swept into the obsession of being "current" and deep into the identity politics thing. It's literally just a band having fun and making good music, that doesn't fly these days you need to be BCNR and sing about totally prescient stuff like billie eilish and irony
I wish they stayed noise rock oriented rather than going in the avant- prog direction. They’re at their best when they mix 80% noise rock w 20% jazz eclecticism and virtuosity. Cavalcade wasn’t very good imo
I don't know what you mean. Black Midi are pretentious as hell, and that's a good thing. One of the best things about them and BC,NR is how they do not give a single damn about audience input.
If anything, they're more political than BC,NR or Squid (aside from GSK), but they are extremely subtle and their music still thrives outside of political subtext.
>try too hard sometimes.
Literally doesn't mean anything
That's because a lot of Cavalcade songs were created with 2 guitar in mind, so when Matt left they had to scramble to fill the empty space. This new album was recorded after months of touring with the keyboard and sax player, and the music was written to reflect that. It's gonna be miles better than Cavalcade and Schlagenheim.
The absurdist updating of 18th century political satire into a 21st century context that Greep's lyrics often contain is one of my favourite aspects of black midi's albums so far, I felt like I was the only one around me who picked up on that when Schlagenheim came out
Was this you?
Why do you brainlets always let this 'not a argument' 'not a real critism' get your heads? If you don't get it is fine but you EXACTLY what 'trying too hard' means
Very tired of this midwit trope
Great, more middle class dreck.
No, I don't fucking get what "trying too hard" means when it comes to music. They made the sounds they wanted to make and that's all there is to it. If you don't like the style then fuck off and listen to something else.
One of the only bands i care about nowadays period. Cant wait.
holy fricken crap
youtu.be
what a cunt with annoying voice
I don’t know it seems like there was a very purposeful and deliberate decision on the bands part to change genres. Wasn’t John L written while Matt was in the band? I feel like either with out without him they would’ve gone in that general direction, but I wish they wouldn’t and would just make really insane noise rock again.
Imagine thinking this counts as anything beyond mudslinging.
He's probably british. Everything is about class to bongs.
the fuck is your problem idiot
you too
i mean, he could be the bass player, and then you'd complain that was a 'racist trope' too
They had a lot of potential with their debut and I like that jam album they did as well as the black midi new road stuff. Shame they went with the autism that is cavalcade.
It will be. Cavalcade was just some experiments into jazzier territory new album is gonna be about HELL
Seeing them in two weeks. Can't wait to hear the LP3 tracks live.
>drummer
why does the main guy dress like this? is this a bit he does?
disregard the >drummer part, must've highlighted it on some post
I said this in response
i'm loving this showtunes-esque direction they're taking with the new songs they've been playing
idk if LP3 will be better than Cavalcade but it'll still be damn good. I also like their direction for these new bunch of songs especially "The Defence" and "Faster Amaranta". But I sort of wish their initial noisy-punk sound came back in some way.
John L and Chondro were the only newer songs with Matt's input and noticeably they're the only ones off Cavalcade that still retain their improvisational, noisy aspects in some way.
Also judging by their penultimate performance w/ Matt where he debuted some kind of djembe noise jam song, it was clear he was going in a different direction musically compared to the rest of the group: youtube.com
>58:30
That's "Years Ago"
Chondro is such a great song, I do hope we get more songs in that vein, it might be my favorite track of theirs.
Why isn't Sugar gonna be on the next album ffs
OH shit, I meant to link the song/jam right after. It was that one
if they're not saving it for LP4 there is a chance it'll make it on as a b-side single, like we got Despair and Cruising
