To be honest, when I went to Alita the first time, I was expecting it to not be that great. While I had seen the trailer I didn't find it too compelling and Alita's eyes were a little large for my taste. When the movie began I searched for things to dislike but surprisingly there weren't any except a few cringey lines now and again. I got used to Alita's eyes and they became quite cute to me in the end. The story was compelling and I became absorbed into it along with the visuals.
The world of Alita is extraordinary and beautiful. The action scenes are exciting, honestly some of the best ever put to the sliver screen. The story is very quickly paced but not rushed. Alita is an enthralling character, she is kind-hearted, innocent, naive and protective. Throughout the movie Alita grows up and learns about sacrifice, loss, love and the horrors of humanity. Alita is also a quite likeable character because she is such a good person in such a horrible world and you can't help feeling very sympathetic for an innocent being like her as she is exposed to the dysotopian world of Iron City.
I haven't read the magna and still loved the movie. It drew me into the story and I had to watch the movie a second time to relax into and enjoy it all. I will definitely recommend this movie to anyone young or old.
Is it better to watch this BEFORE or AFTER reading the manga?
Like will reading the manga help me better understand what's going on and be more invested in it and make me clap when I recognize something or will it ruin the movie for me because it will feel watered down?
