Was this his most dishonest acting?

Was this his most dishonest acting?
>read cue cards on every scene
>pronounced Krypton as Kriptin
>got paid a fuck ton of money per minute
>didnt give a fuck about Superman

Yet somehow it worked making him seem distant and above it all in a very alien way. He really did come off as a god-like figure which fits the messianic themes

biggest waste of budget ever on that bozo, could have gone to effects

Completely false, the only way that Donner was able to get the film made was by casting big names like Brando and Hackman. It was these respected actors being on board that allowed them to secure funding for the film. Without Brando the effects would have been even shittier and the film might never have been made to begin with

Fun fact: One of Marlon Brandon's insane demands was to wear the S symbol and he got especially stubborn about it. Until that point the S stand for Superman so it was imposible for Jor-El to wear it but Donner came out with the idea that the S actually was the symbol of the house of El. This was eventually adapted into the comics and finally merge into every Superman continuity, including the recent Man of Steel

Hackman was a good Luthor though

I think Smallville being in Kansas and the Fortress of Solitude were created in the movie as well

based

Both preceded the movie

When I was a child I used to belive that God looked like Brando's Jor-El.

late brando gave no fucks all the time

He understood that superhero movies are a fucking joke and made for children.

hmm

He always read cue cards in his later films, and he always gave a great performance, also
>muh actor didn't give a shit about muh capeshit character
I don't know why you're listing that as a bad thing.

I agree, and I also like Brando as Jor-El. However they were necessary casting choices no matter what your opinion is of them

Even more fun fact: Brando was too lazy to go to the set so he pitched the idea that Jor-El would be a talking, glowing suitcase. That way he could just voice it and not have to do any real acting. Needless to say they turned him down

>No,,,by causing the deaths of innocent people.

I thought he wanted him to be a bagel.

I vaguely remember something about that as well

"I wish I knew"

Superman II had such potential, could have been even better than the first if they had kept on Donner as director. Oh well, the Donner Cut they made in the 00s is a good enough consolation prize, even if it's more of a fun curio than a legit great movie

Fucking me too man

Ive never seen Superman II all the way though. should i start with the donner cut?

Superman II might actually be my favorite capeshit movie. Top 3 for sure

Nah

Superman II original cut is bangin'

>He always read cue cards in his later films, and he always gave a great performance
No he didn't. He was absolute dogshit as Colonel Kurtz.

Both versions have their merits, and I wish that Donner when he was making his cut would have shown less disdain for Lester's footage and used more of it. An "ultimate cut" using both versions could be serious kino

That said I think the Donner Cut is much better. Lester version has too much slapstick comedy bullshit which takes away from the dramatic aspects of the film. However it is a more fully polished product. Donner used screen tests and added shitty 2000s tv-tier CGI to complete his original version, and these moments can be immersion-breaking. There are also some logical inconsistencies and continuity issues.

I would say that both are worth viewing, but the Donner Cut is certainly more true to the spirit of the first film.

Nah watch the original. It's messily inconsistent in terms of style but it's the more entertaining and satisfying version. Donner cut is still good though.

This, it's fucking fantastic.

I can respect that, personally I vastly prefer the first movie. In fact, Superman '78 is my second-favorite film of all time, capeshit or otherwise.

Is Superman I supposed to be a God/Jesus allegory

>dishonest
You don't actually know what this word means in film context. Dishonest acting would be autisticaly reading every superman comic, meditating on the character and his role in the story, etc. Brando's performance actually manages to capture acting in the most pure form. He doesn't know or give a shit, yet he does it and it's great - that's the power of art.

Very much so, he can even bring the dead back to life as he did with Lois

I just read about the Superman movies for 20 minutes, Yea Forums. Thank you, give me more

Define "Honest" casting, before i can answer that question.

now go watch it

So if the original ending of Superman II was the time-turner planet, what was the original ending of Superman I?

It was going to end on a cliffhanger with Lois dead and Superman mourning over her

that's actually a myth, original ending would have been that the rocket never detonates and Superman saves the day without time travel. You see in the original script there was only one missile, not two. But the Salkinds wanted a big finish and the Earth spinning was the major special effect so it got changed.

>Donner commented, "I decided if Superman is a success, they're going to do a sequel. If it ain't a success, a cliffhanger ain't gonna bring them to see Superman II."[23]

>he pitched the idea that Jor-El would be a talking, glowing suitcase
based

this. he was an absolute chad. gives zero fucks, no preparation, rolls out of his alcohol fueled hotel orgy, late on the set, mutters through some cue cards and still puts out a better performance than try hards. F

>pronounced Krypton as Kriptin
this was based. i want every iteration of jor-el to pronounce it that way

I really liked the silvery crystal-like nature of krypton in this version of superman. The new version was dumb and less futuristic looking. They even had dildos for rocket ships.

Attached: Jl3tw91.jpg (1080x807, 44K)

You're saying this like it's bad. Brando gave zero shits yet he did a better Jor-El than Russell Crowe.

>Marlon Brando getting redpilled about (((Hollywood)))
>Become greedy and sabotage movies just for sheer contempt.

Is Brando the most based actor?

Wtf is this real

Snyder has no vision, which is why his only good movie is a shot-for-shot remake of a graphic novel

Based Brando

based

Smh desu senpai

lmao I didn't even notice when watching the film but they do look like dildos.

He was excellent at expression and reading
I would've loved for him to do an audiobook

Brando was incredibly based, OP wouldn’t understand
