1996 to 1999 had more than twenty albums that were easily 10/10 each year. Also some year in the 80s and 70s were similar. from mid 00s the quality and originality of music died?

I've noticed that Fantano drones and redditors have decided that "conscious rap" and experimental hiphop (Death Grips) are the only good music genres and then they seem to randomly have chosen Carseat Headrest, Mount Eerie, and to a lesser extent Swans to be the token good music made by white people.

Funny how they've formed a relative consensus around what music is good and what's not good and they all seem to like the same stuff despite music being so personal. The Kendrick, Tyler, Danny Brown, and Kanye stuff they cling to as the decade's holy grail of music is easily accessible and often incoherent rap not really much different from Future and Young Thug type shit, but it's less offensively retarded and fits their political mold well so that's what they've picked to be considered good I guess, which signifies either that they're pseuds, or soulless, or don't really enjoy music that much, or are utter conformists, or all the above, or I'm looking to far into it.

unironically: rym is mostly underage white kids with savior complexes who don't really listen to rap outside of big hyped releases, drone fantano and _genuinely_ don't have any opinions of their own but just give whatever is fotm at the time 5 stars. they also have extremely limited taste and basically only listen to rap and indie from the past few decades which is why older rym charts and specific genre charts are so much better
