The thing is all these premium channels are run by the same company and are just as poorly programmed. Why even keep them around when it's a fact that they're hemorrhaging money and stretching themselves thin?

we make so many awful animated shows because it's easy to get grants from the (provincial or federal) governments and animated shows are super fucking cheap to make and kids are stupid and will watch anything most of the time, also canadian content requirements result in channels like ytv or teletoon having to create filler to meet requirements that a regular channel would fill with reality shows or a network would fill with news
we make awful live action stuff because we literally can't afford to make anything good, all the really good stuff (corner gas, trailer park boys, kids in the hall) was usually made on a shoestring budget compared to american or even british shows, and networks couldn't care less about making quality content and, once again, only care about filling quotas, so they just pump out a few low budget can-con shows every couple of years to get the CRTC off their backs

Here in Australia they used to play a lot of YTV shows in the 2000s. I most fondly remember watching Freaky Stories as a 7 year old in 2004. I still love that cartoon to this day

The blocks and repeatsare just how it is now. Like i said, instead of 1 channel airing multiple leading shows, there are 10 channels airing single shows. Ytv used to air blocks throught out the day appealling to multiple demographics of all young age groups. They understood who was watching and when.

Cybersix was a criminally underrated show but its failure isn't surprising. The monster of the week style didn't fit with the show very well; it needed a long continuous story and some more visceral action to compete with the anime boom that was happening.
