the reason I call bullshit on the article is that Jia Zhangke, possibly the most important chinese director, has stated in one of his interviews that censorship laws around films have become more lax in recent years and that the chinese political establishment sees film more as a product than as propaganda nowadays, which is the opposite of what the article states.
Hero is more of a propaganda film than most of the chinese kino that's coming out today
