I rewatched LOST not long ago and it made me realize that Sawyer is pretty much the only truly consistent character, who's arc actually makes complete sense.

Jack, Locke, Ben, Desmond, all really good characters but they all stumble and have contrivances that can't be ignored. Sawyer on the other hand just feels very organic compared to everybody else. He's also so fucking lovable.

Sawyer has the best arc but still being in love with Kate in season 5 was bullshit.

As soon as Juliet appeared I wanted Sawyer to get her, so it didn't bother me at all. Kate is a head-fuck and Jack was a self-righteous prick that needed stuff to fix, so they belonged together.

He was self-sabotaging as we saw all the time, especially with his relationship with Kate, but I think it was much about showing them who the fuck they were dealing with than anything else.

It was almost pragmatic. Guilting Sayid about torturing him at the very beginning of doubt made it certain he'd never bring himself to interrogate Sawyer again which was vital when Sawyer actually did decide to fuck them over later. Sayid felt like the most capable leader to me so I thought it was brilliant that Sawyer basically immunized himself from Sayid by preying on his conscience like that (really the only question to me is whether any of that was intentional or instinctual, maybe Sawyer only later came to understand Sayid would never attack him that harshly again and took advantage of that understanding)

that's a new one. i always get a bit bored during season 3 because there is a lot of nothing going on for a bit but i can't stomach rewatching season 6 at all. i get into the first few episodes but my brain can't handle the left turn the season takes like every thing about the numbers and the candidates and jacob and the lighthouse and heart of the island and the flash sideways and everything.

it's so fargone from the lost i love. it doesn't feel like a character driven season but more so it's a vehicle for these weird shoehorned in mythologies. i get super annoyed with the episode where they show jacob touching everyone in the past like it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo unnecessary and it irritates me that they have to connect the characters like that. for some reason, the idea of everything being premeditated for these characters really detracts from the impact of the earlier seasons for me
