The charitable reading of this clusterfuck is that of course the lunatic is right in Cerebusland because the universe Dave creates is supposed to be interpreted as being utterly insane. Kind of like in a satirical Philip K Dick story.

The probably more accurate reading is that Dave got so fucked up and crazy after this point that he just plain forgot about how he portrays Rick... much like how he forgets about his initial portrayal of Jaka.

At least she’s a strong enough character that she mostly survives the hatchet job.

I have to say Im happy with where Cerebus has gone as a character. He wants to get rid of Rick but has become too moral to leave him on his own when he’s mentally incapacitated (assuming that wasnt just an excuse to stay). Early Cerebus would never have done that. That farewell to his friends was genuinely heartwarming, too.

He was an ass to Joanne but he genuinely seems to be getting so much better in his relations, to both men and women.

I know the comic is supposed to end with Cerebus dying, I think by killing himself. There was also that warning real early on about his second marriage being a justification for him dying alone, unmourned and unloved. So we’re on a real happy note right now but I am anxious about what will happen going forward. No spoilers though please, I’d rather it be a surprise.

Okay spoilers for two characters: do Artemis or (fake?) Elf ever show up again? Artemis kinda left the same time as Elrod but s/he didn’t get poit’d. There wasnt a ‘real’ exit to the character yknow? But it still kinda seemed like an exit?

And Elf just got fucking nothing at all. Really expected that character to become more important considering she’s Cerebus’s magic spirit daughter.

This was surprisingly good. I liked it way more than Guys. More meaningful character progression, story progression and really stunning art.
There are a few hiccups here and there but I was expecting something worse.
