God please don't roll out the cheating cliche after avoiding cliches with Sandy the entire series.

It faked out she was a jealous girlfriend cliche when "December" made it seems like Mike turned on Lucy because of Sandy only to disprove that only a couple chapters later when Mike saw her and she encouraged him to make up with her.

While "Model Girlfriend" communicates that their relationship is shaky and likely doomed, it did so without Sandy being a bad selfish girlfriend cliche.

So just doing a Dear John thing would be very lame.

I liked the angle of Mike and Sandy slowly realizing they're just not that compatible. Mike just happened to be there for her when her life was at it's darkest but that alone not being a good base for a lasting relationship.

Apparently Sue & Mike were originally the main leads way before the comic was off the ground. Sue was pretty much the same but Mike's personality was basically "Leo" from VGCats (i.e. retard). Mike was re-written to be the straight-man when Lucy took the spot instead.

I'll just say this isn't necessarily Mike being stupid so much as him having no other way to feel like he's a good person. It's been firmly established by now that he doesn't trust his friends, and with the Lucy suicide thing hanging over his head he neither expects nor is entirely convinced he deserves forgiveness from them, so as with all his emotional needs he's relying on his relationship with Sandy to make himself feel moral. I'll say that this need is probably fueled by expectations put on him since childhood to be really kind, largely with Lucy but it was present in all facets of his life really. Which is also why he doesn't express his anger properly until he's pretty much ready to murder whoever he's angry at. Anyway his focus on trying to assuage his myriad of emotional issues is probably preventing him from thinking critically about Sandy. That all probably could've been more clear and concise but my head's killing me.

Sandy has zero relevance without Mike, and Taeshi trying so hard to make him look pathetic tells me she'd never put Mike in a situation like that where he'd have to show any agency or maturity whatsoever.

I just hope he's allowed to grow his spine back before getting stuck with Lucy again.
