It just makes me all the more disappointed that we didn't get a third season because I could legitimately see a redemption arc working for Gideon, just not in the rushed way they did it in the finale. 10-12 years old is an awfully young age to go full supervillain and end up in the slammer. Makes me wonder if the second journal itself had something to do with his descent into a midget mob boss.
Would have boon cool if Stan had gone to jail after NWHS/AToTS instead of Ford using the memory gun maguffin and that had given us a jailbreak episode with Gideon and Stan to kickstart the kid's redemption arc. Plus it would have offered Ford some time alone with Dipper and Mabel to further establish their relationship dynamics early on.

It's likely canon the amulet made him turn more towards evil and was the reason that he had white despite the fact that his dad is brown-haired. Journal 2 likely didn't have the warning, only the amulet's abilities and location.
