How strong is Ghost Rider really?

How strong is Ghost Rider really?

On paper he doesn't really seem that strong to me, like it feels like a lot of cats could take him pretty easy. Thor and Iron Man would take him no problem. Captain Marvel. etc.

I just don't see him as actually being that strong.

He can tank hits from the world breaker hulk so he's up there in terms of strength. He's basically just Marvel's Specter where he's a lot more powerful then we usually get too see because the human side limits the power he uses.

AH NO MY JOBBER STARE AH IT ISNT WORKING MEPHISTO HELP ME AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The problem with Ghost Rider is that he's arguably too strong, so much so that Marvel wrote themselves into a corner and thus results in constant jobbing. The biggest and most frequent example of this is writers not understanding how The Penance Stare works. Punisher, Captain Marvel, and several others magically are immune to this attack

Attached: Johnny Blaze The Ghost Rider.jpg (1009x1400, 578K)

>marvel's spectre
>not marvels Martian manhunter cause despite being stronger and more powerful than super man he jobs to everyone just like ghost rider

Simply infuriating

This is still the funniest Penance Stare moment youtube.com/watch?v=Hx8ob0BAkOs

He’s supposed to be really strong, he’s just never really allowed to overshadow the A-Listers.

Ghost Rider is so cool. I feel bad that he's kind of been sidelined, I guess because of the Cage movies or something. He used to team up more with major heroes like Spider-man and Hulk. They should do a Hulu series with Danny Ketch.

Another problem Ghost Rider faces is marketability. They have to be careful not to piss off Catholics/Christians, and frankly GR material isn't really suited for the China market given their restrictions on how the dead are portrayed

>This ol' Ghost Rider
>Is Ghost Ridin' all alone
>He's a sturdy
>Solitary bone

Attached: latest.jpg (433x420, 135K)

I don't know why it would piss off Christians, the source material basically affirms a lot of their worldview.

Did Ghost Rider piss off Christians back then?

Strong enough to one-shot Galactus yet weak enough to literally get the Spirit of Vengeance beat out of him by Punisher.

Not that I recall. Johnny Blaze meddled with the dark arts and made a deal with a demon to save his dad, and was tricked and his dad died anyway, and he was possessed by a demon. He tried to use the powers for good but he still had lost his soul because he trusted a devil. Why would that bother Christians? It fits with their view of the devil. Jesus actually appeared in the comic and saved Johnny's soul once, but they retconned it later. Then later they also retconned it so Zarathos, who possessed Johhny and Danny, was an angel not a demon. Maybe Disney forced that, was that during the Disney era? Can't have heroes possessed by evil demons I guess. Big corporations seem to want to avoid any religious subject matter and they act as if simply presenting heaven and hell and demons and angels would be offensive to Christians (or maybe non-Christians? Who knows who they're worried about offending).

I mean in Christian lore demons are just fallen angels, so it makes sense.

>Jesus actually appeared in the comic and saved Johnny's soul once but they retconned it later
Jesus would regularly appear in old GR (and other marvel titles) as a wanderer who did people a solid and bounced. Once Marvel (sorta?) retconed TOAA to =/= YHWH Jesus just stopped appearing. Old GR was actually pretty pro-Christian values.
>I mean in Christian lore demons are just fallen angels
Ehhh, there's some leeway Marvel could play with. The old testament says there's spirits that God made that arn't Angels and some are dicks. There's not really anything strictly prohibited in GR from mainstream Christian lore but as has been said most big corporations just don't want to fuck with it in this age of internet spergs.

To be fair his weakness fire is just a match away and kryptonite requires a lot of money, a lot of luck, or a lot of earth mover equipment

Okay. So how the hell does it work? Makes you feel all the pain you've caused over your life, right? What happens if the character, some serial killer or something, is a huge masochist cuz his brain got rewritten or something. Hows it work then?

Spectre jobs all the time though

The entire point is turning all the suffering you've caused others into a weapon and wrecking you both physically and mentally down to your vary soul. "lol I'm a masochist" doesn't work that way. It's more or less Hell felt in an instant

He’s super strong and has Hellfire which burns super hot, he would destroy iron man 1v1

I love his echoed voice

>I feel bad that he's kind of been sidelined, I guess because of the Cage movies or something.
The first Cage movie was fucking great. I loved it despite the villians being stupid looking and the final fight happening in a low-budget Mexican shack.

Second movie was so trash. They retconned random chunks of the first movie, his characterisation, and then just decided to run some random stupid bullshit plot about stopping the Devil from possessing his biological child (at least, that's what I can remember). They even managed to fuck up the Penance Stare in the second movie to make the victim freak out like they're overdosing on meth. The sequence in the first movie was simple and smooth, all they had to do was improve on that but no, they needed to just somehow fuck it up. No amount of exploding firey construction equipment can make up for how much they fucked up the second movie.

I feel bad they sidelined him because of their own fuckups and shit taste.

>Then later they also retconned it so Zarathos, who possessed Johnny and Danny, was an angel not a demon
That's movie only. Zarathos is actually a turbo demon, but the spirits of vengeance whom he was masquerading as were ghostly servants of angels which had been subdued by a demon (this flipflops a lot), but none of the major Ghost Riders actually use an actual Spirit of Vengeance (also one is currently dead and is now a Spirit of Vengeance and Johnny is King of Hell).

Also for some reason Marvel has 2 Heavens (one spelled without an a) and this is on top of all their other afterlifes.

Robbie defeated Quake, who at the time had the powerset and experience of just a tier below the Avengers. He's pretty fucking capable

He took down Galactus.

He's jobber strong.

Why does he talk like DrDisrespect?

hes one of those "this doesnt follow linear power sets" powers. hes not stronger than many many of the people he can take down due to owo magic bullshit

Well, cats feel no guilt, and can shrug off his stare.

Attached: 1290884166482.jpg (600x783, 72K)

Iron Man isn't NEAR that strong. Read a comic, moviefag. He shoots lasers big whoop. 90% of his fights involve him barely surviving due to his armor and barely scraping a win due to luck and quick thinking. Ghost Rider would pulverize him

>Iron Man isn't NEAR that strong
One of Iron Man's reoccurring baddie is marvel's version of Godzilla though. He's also had to fight a fully powered Namor a dozen times. Iron Man is also pretty high on the 'power levels determined by plot' list

For Punisher, Deadpool might’ve accidentally given him protection.

Attached: CE5F56E6-994F-4FA0-9862-5B48551AF3B5.jpg (478x366, 79K)

MAYBE the Penace Stare was retarded in the first place. I WIN attacks are something pissy 6 year olds would come up with. I would like to see it retconned out of existence

Does it kill, like in the films?

That doesn't mean shit user. Christians STILL get mad over an iron maiden song about a bad man who realizes he's going to hell, just because it has the sp00ky number 666 in the lyrics. Doesn't matter to them that the song itself is literally christian as fuck, they're idiots

I still think Punisher shouldn't be immune, but the *only* guilt he actually feels from the Stare is over his family's death. It's more in character and still makes him seem like a badass.

it shouldn't, aside from like accidental heart attack or a freak brain aneurysm. The whole point is that it's a non lethal attack. If GR wants to kill someone he could just burn them to death with hellfire or something.

I am not sure why the Ghost Rider would go after him. Shouldn't the Ghost Rider only care about the innocent being killed? Would the Ghost Rider really make Frank feel the pain of the two parents, he killed, that were making porn with their kids?

>Ghost rider destroys the marvel universe

The penance stare is supposed to wound the soul and make your immortal being nope the fuck out from awareness for a lifetime (give or take.) The problem comes from writers who are either euphoric or stupid (or both) that equate the Penance Stare to a psychic attack on the mind. While Frank has in canon proven to be so batshit that psychic attacks don't work right that should have nothing to do with getting soul stabbed. If anything being a guilt ridden fallen Catholic should make Frank even more susceptible, not less.

Could he one shot Galactus then?

Don't suppose I could snag some Ghost Rider recs or a chart to follow. If he's jobbing now I want to see him in his prime.

The original story that was from was Dr. Strange casting a big spell that basically did the same thing as a Penance Stare (which is probably why the cartoon guys just used a character they already had a VA for and was being pushed a lot more at the time). But in both Galactus is a severely weakened state, he'd probably be able to power through it otherwise. He canon locked away a lot of Silver Surfer's emotions when he made him his herald, I figure he'd be able to use the power cosmic on himself so he normally doesn't give half a fuck that he's eating billions.

>I figure he'd be able to use the power cosmic on himself so he normally doesn't give half a fuck that he's eating billions
Galactus is pure science, his soul is power cosmic which is why he's the universes thresher (eating matter and returning the spirit to a neutral state in preparation for the universal reset.) He had to go through a bunch of bullshit to depower him down enough for his souls to exist in a form Strange could attack.
It was fucking dumb.

>sup
>get rekt
>bye
they should use ghost rider more like this, as the last guy to show up or when fucked up beyond redemption

does his stare work only on a person evil deeds or would it works on a hero too? like when they hurt a villain to save someone else

>It was fucking dumb.
He's been around long enough to be part of a lot of dumb stories. It's hard when Lee and Kirby introduced him as basically GOD, and then he's used as a jobber to get over other cosmic threats.

Attached: Dont Fuck With Earth.jpg (690x602, 153K)

Most Christians have calmed down since the 80s.

They probably didn't calm down, the more angry ones just died and haven't replenished their numbers enough.

I'm dying. This photo is amazing.

Robbie should have the white stripe. All black leather for Blaze is perfect.

He is so strong and not much of A-list. so writers use him to show how powerful other heroes or villains are.

I think Remender used him really good in his Uncanny avengers annual. Sprit of vengence felt like a real threat and Johny blaze also had some nice moments.

> lot of cats could take him pretty easy.
>cats
Are you a 1960's black man? or a 1970's caucasian trying to be a cool black man?

I think they should rename Robbie as Ghost Driver or something. Too many guys with the same name annoys me.

He "no way fag'd" out of a threesome with Morrigan when she was in heat for him. He is very strong.

>Names some of the strongest and most prominent heroes on Earth
>"hurr this guy isn't stronger than them, what a weakling"

Punisher wank is the worst, that faggot has more plot armour than batman.

God Agents of Shield completely fucked up ANGR

why is the voice acting so hilariously bad in old cape cartoons
how did noone at any point say "uh guys this doesnt sound any good "

Any kind of wank can be done well but is usually not. The recent Hulk wank being a good example. Immortal Hulk has had a whole bunch of upgrades recently but very few people are complaining because it works within his own narrative and Ewing doesn't have him out in crossovers curbstomping ten different fandoms favourite characters. As opposed to WWH which (outside of the main book) was just a line up of marvel characters ready to job to the Green Scar like he was Andre the Giant at a royal rumble.

Ghost Rider’s gotten his ass handed to him by Hobgoblin. He’s kind of a pussy if it wasn’t for the whole Zarathos thing. Zarathos can match Mephisto, who’s blown galaxies away at his best. Ghost Rider is a massive jobber, is what I’m saying. Fucking Daredevil with a shitty Hand Demon wrecked his shit.

The voice acting is so shitty but god damn Ghost Rider's voice is sexy. Who voiced him?

He shouldn’t, since Galactus is supposed to be a universal force of nature that maintains balance and keeps all cosmic level shit from outside the universe at bay, but no doubt Ghost Rider has been wanked to those levels.

At a hypothetical strongest, Ghost Rider should be close to, if not the, strongest hero on Earth.

That being said writing him in a dynamic universe full of other characters is very difficult to reconcile, as in any real sort of conflict, he'd likely overshadow many other heroes and solve conflicts too easily.

I think he's at his best when he's just a traveller, dealing with southern gothic/Grindhouse horror weirdness.

>Galactus is supposed to be a universal force of nature that maintains balance and keeps all cosmic level shit from outside the universe at bay
That's not what Galactus does, at all. He's the universes entropy, he consumes the raw potential of the natural universe in preparation for the universal reboot. Some of the potential he consumes is potential for chaos but he doesn't judge morality and as far as keeping anything "at bay" Galactus wants you to come in...so he can eat you.

Richard Grieco

Also, while I was looking for that Ghost Rider Fantastic Four clip, I came across this.

The Penance Stare should only work against real shitbags.

They deserved this. Statues should be ontop of sturdy premade bookshelves, not glasses cases that you have to put together yourself

Wrong. I still see this shit daily. People tell me im going to hell over a goddamn t shirt

It's a balance of control/power between Johnny Blaze and Zarathos is the way I like to look at it. This is from when he faced The Hulk during World War Hulk.

Abraxas is one of the stupidest, most worthless characters ever created by MarLEL. Making Galactus a "living seal" for some "ultimate embodiment of destruction" donut steel is beyond retarded.

>citation needed

Uh...wasn't GR's power was originally bestowed by god? And didn't he kick Lucifer's butt back to hell?

I mean, YHWH was already used as joke in Howard the Duck. (I don't know that was canon description of him though) Compared to it , I don't think portrayal of GR really anti-christian.

But can he beat Cosmic Ghost Rider?

blaze, ketch or kenshiro?

My dude, I think you're living in the 90s

Well at least we have more crazy religious folks who would shoot you or throw bomab at you if you talk bad or mock their religious figures.

an infected dead celestial crashed landed on the planet eons ago and thats where life came from

Pain, as we mortals understand it, is really quite a trivial thing. It is a biological response to stimulus, a warning of immediate bodily harm. So trivial is this response that there are those who can steel themselves against it, or, even, perceive it as pleasure.

But a wound of the soul is no mere mortal pain. It is to gouge at one's very essence. Such agony can neither be endured nor enjoyed. And this is only the smallest of abrasions. Imagine what it must be like to have it burned away, those eternal agonizing moments before you're hollowed out, made a lost vessel who's only purpose is to suffer from then on?

>Wrong. I still see this shit daily. People tell me im going to hell over a goddamn t shirt

I think the thing is that Penance stare for a good while was an instant win. Ketch was basically immortal and blown into nothing and still reaper a second later. Then writers started letting people tank with varying reason. I think the idea that one can endure the suffering they put others through is plausible but no regrets is dumb.

Attached: [palpable disgust].png (337x334, 172K)

No, for all the shit we like to give him CGR is outstandingly broken. And I’m glad he’s (for the most part) being left to his corner of the universe to fuck off and be by himself.

His powers are from literal hell. He's one of the most powerful Marvel heroes as long as he's written at his full official strength and the writers don't conveniently forget how powerful he's supposed to be like they usually do.

>Ghost Rider kills The Container Store

Strong enough to tank anyone not demi-god or Angel level.

Attached: ghost rider Shield.gif (447x250, 1.74M)

He looks like he's having a smashing time, it's so perfect.

Marvel's version of Godzilla was Godzilla and it took the Avengers AND F4 to fight him. Foom's a tier or two below.

>Iron Man would take him
Penance Stare. Have you seen what it did to Dr. Strange? Now imagine what it would do to a military weapons dealer.

>Captain Marvel
Maybe if he came back from the dead, yeah.

>Thor
Best chance by far, but if I recall Johnny outran Mjolnir once, so at least a good fight.

>And everybody clapped

As much as I hate "muh diversit" This depiction of the Ghost Rider was bad ass.

He has been shown to be immune to magic before.

Attached: punisher beats magic.jpg (620x702, 103K)

The penance stare reflected damage that Doctor Strange had dealt to other demons so it's safe to say alignment or guilt is not a factor.

Attached: doctor strange portal.jpg (800x800, 102K)

At least Robbie is distinct at a glance.

strenght wise he's spidey level of strenght

Its still a pretty good Strength chart, even if a lot of these characters use magic or beam attacks for their actual punching weight.

Attached: Marvel_Power_Level_Chart.jpg (800x2914, 582K)

That's the thing, it's not a damage chart, it's a strength chart.

Huh...I prefer the comic version when Dr. Strange did it...

Spidey, Surfer can easily replicate all your powers.

>Maybe Disney forced that, was that during the Disney era?

Disney leadership doesn't know or care.

But then how do you explain what Ghost Rider was doing when the world was about to implode?

Where one that says that about Muhammad.

Marc Specter is now the new Ghost Rider and Johnny Blaze is now the new Moon Knight. How well do they do their respective jobs?

I actually love this bit, it's the first time aliens in comics actually took stock of what Earth had done.

Damn, Doc Samson is THAT strong?
Of course there's been some power creep for some characters since, but still pretty good, yeah.

It is the home of the most feared being in the universe...

Attached: Victor_von_Doom_(Earth-616)_from_Thor_Vol_1_600.jpg (986x1410, 351K)

Well he's tanked Hulk more than Ben Grimm

Multiple Galactus attacks, plus the Phoenix. Not to mention all the shenanigans with gods. Makes anyone think twice at least.

I love how half of them are pissed at Spider-Man for what are his rankings, it gives the reader a good idea without being too limited by what is strictly canon if a writer disagrees.

Since humanity are baby celestials it only makes sense.

This is out of context iirc, Frank had some boost and Strange was not actually strange

Sure, sure, losing his wife makes him resistant to happiness magic, I'm just saying there's a pattern.

Is that Super Jesus?

The entire comic book industry did. Motorcycle rididing ghost rider is from the 70's, where D+D and rock music hysteria was in full swing.

It just wasn't as big of a deal, compared to EC comics and the like.

Think of it like Satana, and marvel's idea of maximum edgy for them at the time.

Basically, yes.
It's Wundarr the Aquarian.
His origin is Superman's, and his attitude is Jesus.

Clearly Tony needs to build "anti ghost rider armor". What the FUCK would that be?

And how does ghost rider deal with the whole flying thing.

10/10. Would bag, board and have graded.

Frank Castle in one of those baby backpack things that go on the front.

>"It's as embarrassing as it is for me, as it is for you."

It's the equivalent of Gary Indiana for America, or the Democratic Republic of Congo.

One of GR's weaknesses (specifically Blaze) is that he is gullible. You see this a lot in the mid 2000's run with Lucifer. He could probably be tricked into thinking that Roxanne was a hologram or something.

I like to NOT think about that crap.

>Clearly Tony needs to build "anti ghost rider armor". What the FUCK would that be?
Sure, would work as well as any other "anti xxx armor", so why not.

Anti-Ghost Rider armor would be more like a suit for the Ghost Rider that was forged with Enochian seals or something to act as a seal.

It's not an I Win button you fucking impatient underage faggot, it's a coup de grace. Fucking kids have no appreciation for showmanship.

All I want is a series where a GR wanders around the American Southwest dealing with random demon shit, riding into town to deal with it and riding out when it's done, like a modern day supernatural Western hero. That's all they have to do. Keep him far away from the regular Marvel supervillain bullshit unless they have to call in the really big guns.

Attached: 1547362253844.jpg (800x1000, 382K)

Much like Lobo hes only as strong as the writer wants him to be
He can go from punching beings like Mephisto in the dick one minute to getting his ass beat by a werewolf on meth the next.

fuck the cgi for this show pisses me off, watch his chin just extend for no reason

Blaze tanked Thor twice and Thor had help both times

Mystic/demonic people never have any really strong definitions in their power.

Most of the time they cannot be killed conventionally so they come off as really durable. Other times they cannot even be hurt unless some kind of magic is being used against them so they are unstoppable when fighting regular or science based heroes.

Ghost Rider is typically around Spider-Man level physically. About 10-20 ton strength, mostly human durability but he cannot be killed since he is a dead guy so he might as well have regeneration. He ignores shit like underwater and outer space because dead again.

Main offense is hellfire which burns for no reason and cannot be put out like regular fire. and occasionally things like chains or knives which also have hellfire on them.

He's not going to wrestle with Hulk or Thor for too long, but they cannot put him down permanently either. Just kick his ass and drop a truck on him or something. Which he will burn through and walk away from.

Penance stare worked on Punisher before

>Nick Fury is dead
kek that's a very hasty assumption

It's like the Straights of Hormuz on the galactic scale. A third world shithole full of crazies that no one wants to deal with, but it is in the major space highway intersections to everywhere.

Earth is perfectly in the middle of contested territory between Kree and Badoon space and whoever controls it controls a huge chunk of space. Which is why the Shi'Ar and Skrulls wanted it for so long. But the planet itself might as well be a backward central asian nothing county with the last name -Stan.

Made no sense how he was Thanos' bitch for a few thousand years if the very next mini he could casually kill Thanos with no problem.

Wasn't that retconned to pstd when seeing fire tho?

Blaze filled Starks armor with hellkite once and the comic that had Carol tank the stare literally dropped the same week as her movie so the Carolwank is obvious, Mar-Vell who knows he's dead and never coming back

>Hellfire

70s had lots of edgy "Hey the bible thunpers will hate this!" comics like Son of Satan, The Demon, Damien Hellstorm, Satana,

Ghost Rider at least had some nuance other than "This is the literal son of the devil with a pentagram on his chest and shouts evil bible passages at things!"

How is Danny Ketch?

This, Ghost Rider is magic and does not really fit into set power levels like most heroes.

He's medium level in strength and ignores physical laws like gravity or momentum because magic bullshit.

youtube.com/watch?v=rsePyOUvinA

Plus he was suppose to be a Daredevil villain.

>don't know why it would piss off Christians
It romanticizes the idea of making deals with the devil.

Most of the tricks Johnny uses nowadays started with Danny, no?

General theory is the stare, chains etc are a side effect of when Zarathos absorbed Danny

>like it feels like a lot of cats could take him pretty easy
I don't know why I visualized like fifty house cats just swarming Ghost Rider's ass. I can't stop laughing at it now.

Nah, he'd fistbump him.

>Nick Fury
>innocent

Not in any of the letter columns I've seen (although there were some complaints about Satana and Son of Satan, one of them from Peter Sanderson who would later become an editor and handbook writer at Marvel). Outside of the first few arcs, GR was mostly a superhero/stuntman series up until Johnny Blaze found out he was possessed. He actually performed fully in public at arenas in Ghost Rider form, with people assuming it was a mask (somehow). Whole stories feel like something you'd see on the Billy Bixby Hulk show.

Also, Google captcha morons really need to learn what a ''bus'' is.

...

I loved that Hulk show

That's exactly what Way's 2000s run was.
