The stress got to the original OP due to shit flinging and casting doubt on the tournament. He stated there were some shady votes happening during a specific hour, 40 votes exactly the same, and said he removed them. Honestly despite his best intentions he probably should have kept his mouth shut.
Huge rage storm formed for some reasons. OP threw a huge fit, ended the round prematurely, and said the show was over right during semifinals. This pissed people off even more
Stats user stepped up and took over the round. Things settled down after awhile and we got some fun moments like out of it
He claimed someone was stuffing the ballot box and that he had to delete votes to fix it, people called him a faggot, and he quit. Then another user came in to shitpost and claimed he was the ballot stuffer but nobody believes him and so we're all denying it happened.

The reason I feel so passionate about allowing recent characters is because recent and popular characters inherently have more supporters, more fanart, and more discussion - look at how much there's been in these threads (drama and shit previous OP aside, of course), it's been pretty amazing how much traffic we got this year and a large reason for that is the inclusion of a hugely popular character.
I'm worried that, as a FOTM clause comes in (along with like some other rules to support it), we'll have much less OC in these threads as it won't garner the attention of larger crowds that the recent characters bring.

Part of fair judging means removing recency bias and preventing recent word of mouth from influencing voting. Not to get too serious with this, but it's the same logic as to why when you're in jury duty you're told not to read the newspaper or discuss the trial; they don't want the outside world impacting your decision making process.
And really, answer me this: If a new character can't win when the shine of them being new has faded, why did they deserve to win at all?
there's always a character that's a hot pick during the time of the votes, since voting takes place in such a short amount of time anyway rather than being more spread out; I don't consider it to be unfair that a character is popular around voting time, it's more a matter-of-fact inevitability. A FOTM clause is an attempt to suppress this, but there is ultimately always going to be a popular pick during voting time - there kind of has to be, as that's how it works so that somebody wins. I just don't want these threads to shrink through the years due to arbitrary rules and restrictions limiting the fanbases welcome to them, as it could severely decrease OC output.
