Despite myself, I'm impressed by the elegance of Sim's thought-cancelling clichés - if Jaka is an unhappy person by nature, then it's her own fault for being upset, and whatever Viktor said to her is inconsequential. Come to think of it, that essentialism is really at the heart of all his character work... which does a lot to explain why and how he builds so much complexity out of simple concepts.

Anyway finished reading this part.
Better than the last ten issues, that's for sure. There's at least some sense of progression and character building/exploration going on. I liked Cerebus' split conversations and his relationship with Bear coming full circle here. I liked seeing Joanne again. Guys is getting into that personal feeling that Jaka's Story had which is nice, but it still isn't hitting the same highs JS did and some parts are still quite filler-like. Overall, the second half is an improvement over the first.
As a side note, it felt so weird getting allusions to main story again after so long without them. It only illustrated further how Guys was divorced from the rest of the series.
My opinion on the art in Guys remains mostly the same, except it's not so cluttered while being everywhere anymore, which is a plus.
There's only one issue of Rick's Story here but the art is actually outstanding. I love the compositions for the drunk visions. The demonic Cerebus looked creepy and vicious, as it should have. Really want to see more.

Weird to think that back in the early issues, one of Cerebus’s ‘big goals’ was to get his own tavern. That didnt last long as a focus but that was a dream of his for a while.

This comic can really hit you with trippy art in places you weren’t expecting. The visuals all have a strong purpose beyond just looking cool though, they portray mood and perception very well. In some conversations it’s easy to visualize an animated version of what’s going on, but then there’s all this crazy panelling and pagework and techiques real specific to this medium.
