>new 52 death stroke omnibus
I can safely say I’ve never seen one of these before

This is the stuff I picked up today at a local convention.

Attached: new purchases.png (2892x1780, 1.9M)

Yeah I got it on HPB for $25. It's not so bad, there's lots of action and good art, just don't expect any profound story.

Just got Harrow county Library Edition Vol2 and thinking of picking up the last volume of wayward.
I'm also looking for Judge Anderson PSI Files Vol 2 but this book has been out of print for years and I have no idea why hasn't rebellion reprinted it yet.

Also, how is the TMNT comic from IDW? I remember people really liking it when it came out but since it has almost 100 issues, I wonder if it's still good and worth jumping into

It's good but I only read up into the 60 issues. Prolly the definitive TMNT run if the quality is still the same.

I also finally got around to putting stuff on my walls.

Great!

Alpha by Jens Harder is the story of the universe from the big bang until the apparition of the first hominid; and Beta is the first half of humanity.

The "story" and timeline is based on science; but the illustrations (which are the reason why you buy those books) mix scientific diagrams with historical/mythological/scocioogical/etc illustrations.

Do an image search of "alpha jens harder" to see what I'm talking about.

I was tempted to get Final Fantasy Ultimania off TFAW last night, until I saw their shipping costs.
How the fuck are they charging $12 for basic bitch USPS shipping when everywhere else is $4 to $7?

I like your SS collection

I really like the Thor and West coast avengers, you have good taste. How’s Shi and Daredevil?

Cheval Noir is the best anthology

Who you think is taking over Thor? All signs point to Cates

Farmhand doesn't get half the attention it should.

Just got DC universe: The Stories of Alan Moore for 7 bucks. It's the older edition that has TKJ with the original colors, which is the main reason I got it.

Been in kind of a batman mood lately. Guess it's because of the 80th anniversary and the We Live in A Society movie coming up.

>The Stories of Alan Moore for 7 bucks.
What a steal
>It's the older edition that has TKJ with the original colors,
Even better
I had to scoop the Absolute to get the original colors. It was on sale for 25 dollars though, which was nutty.

Sophie Campbell’s art put me off for good. It’s a shitty furry rendition of the turtles although the backgrounds are decent

I too went to my first con locally and went nuts on the cheap prices

I second that, user convinced me to get it and I'm glad I did. Absolutely stunning page compositions and he references all sorts of cultural and scientific ways that people were trying to make sense of the universe. It's amazing how much it contains.
ya, I will have to take pictures and storytime Censormonkeys Have No Class, just didn't get the time this weekend.

>Tyrant
fuck you, I really want that.
oh man, that's like 50 issues of Ron Marz Silver Surfer and like 40 Chuck Dixon Nightwing. The deal was fill a bag for $20 so I filled 2 1/2 and just paid $40. It was great. I haven't read that Shi/Daredevil yet but it seems kinda cool.
Hoping Ewing but it will be Cates....
>Namorfag

Folks, I'm glad the thread is up because I come here with a question:
Is the New Mutants series by Abnett & Lanning worth getting? I added it to my list for tomorrow's purchases, since I saw they were at a decent price and I was planning on getting the Demon Bear Saga (and as a way to start reading New Mutants), but I don't know much about this series.

Attached: NOV181052.jpg (450x697, 64K)

Expensive lip balm, pink calculator, beanie baby collection... this is a girl's shelf.

Can't get any worse for Thor, so I'd say bring on Cates. But I'm hoping it ends up being just a limited if it is him, because he's already writing several books and one's an on-going.

silly user, girls don't post on the internet, nor do they like buff wrestlers. That poster is just living the gay life.

>Snotgirl
This. Also I feel Die hasn't gotten the attention it deserves in this board, although I've noticed some here have a serious slant against Gillen and McElvie stuff in specific.

Also check Outpost Zero, is a nice science fiction story driven by some teenagers and their interpersonal drama in a secluded colony in an icy planet.

Attached: RCO001_1551861377.jpg (1040x1600, 289K)

I liked Die.

>>GWW's Wonder Woman
I gave this 4 issues before dropping. It's just totally uninspired, and the artwork is sophomoric at best. I don't see what makes it any different from cape comic #23453

that better have his Vigilante issues in it.
The book was finally allowed to shed the CCA a
during it, and became one of the bleaker bigtwo books of the 1980s.

Good user. We should storytime it more often.

Die is really, really good. I think it's one of if not the best comic on the stands right now

Was Vigilante any good outside that one story about the incest pedophilia couple?

when she has a bad artist it's pretty bad, the Giganta storyline was crappy with amateur art. But outside of that I've loved it cause it's all about love and desire and how they can be good but can be dangerous if not handled well too.

Attached: wonder woman aphrodite.jpg (1935x2974, 984K)

That page is nice and all but I read over 80 pages and didn't feel any sort of desire to go forward. I wonder if its praise (you aren't the only one to so so) is due to standards for Wonder Woman comics being rock bottom.
Everytime I read a Wonder Woman comic I compare it to Rucka's (first) run and it always falls short

That story you reference is the Alan Moore one, which was 17-18.
Marv Wolfman wrote most of the book before that, and it was pretty crappy in a typical cape-way. Wolfman even used some magical background to explain why the title character could survive a beating. It was pretty bad. He even had a support team, a mobile base, and a techno-motorcycle. That team was gone by the end of Wolfman, and Moore literally had the bike taken apart.
Kupperberg took over as the regular writer, and started writing the book more realistically. Realistically as in, "what will happen if someone took up being a vigilante, and then started spiralling out of control?"
The book was frequently brutal, and ignored the CCA for the entirety of its 50 issues. The ending of the book contains a sequence that is still infamous thirty years later.

>"what will happen if someone took up being a vigilante, and then started spiralling out of control?"
Sounds like Foolkiller.

Got the Monster sized Chilling adventures of Sabrina, Afterlife with archie 7, I might hunt the rest of betty RIP later; the mex trade of rebirth Superman vol 6 Imperius Lex and on the manga side Monster 6 out of 9 and Wotakoi 4. Might grab more manga this week but Im not as certain.

not even a week ago bro

DC has been churning out a lot of Essential Editions - the only really essential one would be World Against Batman. There's also the Darkseid War and the first manabuc Flash stuff, and a few others.

I didn't know they were calling anything an omnibus from that time frame.

Are those the original Newsprint editions of Wednesday? Because if so, that's a great score.

Except whatever that XYR is looks like a normal size trade?

Do you think we'll get a Prieststroke omni?

Wanna start collecting sandman. Should I start with those 30th anniversary edition trades?

This. Every time I see someone actually buying that stuff, I wonder if they knew they're paying for collages and rants.

I'm thinking of getting Bill Sienkiewicz' Revolution when it comes out. The more I see his stuff the more I like it, which is weird because when I first started reading Elektra: Assassin I absolutely hated it. Now I can't get enough.

350 bucks for a 20 page artbook? Talk about a ripoff.

You don't need to buy the Limited Edition, you can buy the regular one for 35 bucks. Also
>20 page artbook
It's 224 pages though?

great argument

>I've noticed some here have a serious slant against Gillen and McElvie stuff in specific.

It's fucked - they're GOAT creators, and Gillen's writer's notes are a must for any would-be comic writers

Parts of it are good and are quintessential, but that's only at first. I'm not about to pay for his lengthy misogynistic ramblings with lazy art, though.

Honestly anything outside of High Society is pure crap, and even High Society is only meaningful because it was one of the earliest TPB collections ever made.
Bone does everything Cerebus tries to do, but better and with none of the misogynist homophobic rants.

It's really great. Excited to read through the 10 issues I got. There's some Druillet on black and white and a Moebius story I've never read.

Bissette is a master. Some day I'll have everything he worked on.

Yeah, they are. There were a couple more, but I didn't grab them. Definitely regret it now. Xyr is like 50 pages long. It just happens to have a stiffer paper stock for the covers.

Nice. I've wondered whether to start reading Punisher Kill Crew, apparently it's pretty good.

Am OP, can confirm, am living the best gay life I can.

Nah, I just have dry ass lips, the calculator is a hand me down from my sister and I need a graphing calculator to do calculus (and I do unironically like the color pink and like to wear pink shirts and black pants), and my family has a huge collection of Beanie Babies but I can't have them on the floor cuz my dogs will chew them up and choke.

Guys if I buy old, uncollected comics in single issues digitally, will this increase the odds of those issues one day being collected in trades?
I just want more Ostrander stuff on my shelf bros

If you wanna see Frank fuck up fantasy bois with the power of gun...why aren't you already reading this? It's so dumb, I love it.

Am I fucked if I ever wanna get Amazing Spider-Man omnibus 3 at a reasonable price? Do these weird middle volumes ever have a chance of getting a reprint?

>pink
ultra-closetted gay

It used to be the color that represented boys before clothing companies shut that down. If you think about it, blue is a lot girlier than pink, pink says "high energy, intense, outgoing" to me. Look at Bret Hart's outfits and tell me it isn't cool.

I'm going to do it anyway so when I die I can tell whoever judges my soul that I owned these things.

It's not like comic book characters don't wear ostentatious costumes, either. Arguably more ridiculous with the fake muscles on the costumes.

damn, i'm jelly -.- i want these Death drawings

Fair enough, although I wouldn't wear tights and a cape everywhere either, I don't think they'd realistically be clad in costume every time they went outside in real life. This is just comics convenience.

You can and should politely write to the publisher and request it. Right now, they go by the stupidest of system - which is how many pre-orders LCS give something

>Definitely regret it now.
Thanks for letting me now. I read my libraries version of the entire series and they look really great that way. It's one thing I wish DC would reprint but since they did such an ugly fire of the guy whose idea it was, I doubt it will ever happen for quite some time.

>Xyr
I meant format size, that looks like it's just a normal sized TPB but next to the Wednesday, it should be a folio or some other oversized edition (top to bottom, left to right?)

>Thread Question
What are you planning on getting for the autumn season?

>unnatural
... Oh user why would you....

Re-evaluate some of those URLs. Valiant effort.

Any suggestions?

Well I have two hauls based on a schedule I set up... Today I'm compiling and making an order, and after the second week of October I'll get another.
Do I'm just gonna post the tentative list for today/tomorrow first:

>Realm of Kings Omnibus HC
>Fantastic Four Omnibus by Waid and Wieringo HC
>Uncanny Inhumans Vol.1 HC
>Uncanny Inhumans Vol.2 HC
>New Mutants Epic Collection: Demon Bear Saga
There's a couple that I'm still iffy about on the list, so I'm not sure if I'll pull the trigger yet. Maybe I'll replace the F4 Omnibus with two other trades (epic collections), though I haven't decided which yet. This collection for example got me real curious but I don't know what half of that is and can't find it in IST/CGN either. Any advice is recommended.

They mean fixing the space between the URL and the description in parenthesis, check every address.

You have parentheses touching some of them, which screws up linkifying. I thought it was obvious, so I decided to be jokingly prodding. Hope that didn't come off rude.

Oh I thought you meant updating which sites were good or new.

Well I mean, if it comes to updating the list, I'd add Alibris in there (alibris.com), which is a much better alternative to Amazon without their fees, dealing directly with the retailers; and yes, it does ship worldwide too and has PayPal support.

>Bone does everything Cerebus tries to do, but better
What the hell? These comics are so utterly divergent that it's ridiculous to compare them at all. It's like comparing The Hobbit with The Black Company. Who the fuck reads Bone and Cerebus and comes to the conclusion they're anything close to the same experience?

Everything Silver Age will be reprinted eventually because almost all those guys are dead and their deals were terribly in favor of the company. Do NOT spend hundreds on an OOP Silver Age omnibus

I'd add comicbookdb. I like to use it to find what volumes single issues have been collected in.

I got a funny LCS story. It's at a place in the city I haven't been too cause it's way further than the other places. But the guy ran into some problems with Diamond not shipping his orders in time, was a few weeks behind at some point (I suspect it is at least partly his own fault). So he ended up getting late on his rent for his story in the strip mall. Well, the owner of the mall went into his store and took a bunch of the inventory, like all the statues and figures and whatever. And now two doors down he set up a temp shop to sell it off. The LCS owner told my buddy that he can't go there cause his Lawyer told him to stay away, but said my buddy should go to find some deals. So this weekend I'm going to go down to see this mess. This comic store is so dead, lol.

Where do I write and how many letters a day do I need to send for them to take it seriously?

>self-published, humorous but epic fantasy stories starring non-human protagonists in a human world
They're essentially the same, the only difference is that Cerebus is held back by not being a comic book and instead being mostly an outlet for an incel to rant about how women don't put out.

That's an extremely surface level comparison that you would only make if you haven't read them both. I won't bother arguing with you.

Make sure you don't get the Sandman recolored editions. They look like shit and diminish the work as a whole.

You haven't read all of Cerebus either, nobody has. It's just not possible to power through page after page of soul-crushing misogyny and homophobia. I can't even imagine how people kept buying it for all those years, but I guess even the alt-right needs their own "comics".

>That's an extremely surface level comparison
Actually cerebusfags can't stop masturbating over the fact that Sims lost the best years of his life self-publishing this garbage. So no, it's not a surface level comparison. It's a literal selling point of the book.

How many posts can one person make saying the exact same thing? Jesus Christ.

Considering how tedious Cerebus is, I don't blame anyone for actually not sifting through the entire thing and coming up with a more concise description of it. Isn't there a 22° thread of a Cerebus Storytime going on right now? Maybe they're on the 23° thread already.

How come all of Matt Kindt's comics come out in hardcover first? It's really discouraged me from reading him.

that's how graphic novels generally work. it's how novels are published too

>Sims
At least get the name of the person you dislike right.

Why can't his comics not be graphic novels and just be comics? I don't want to buy hardcovers.

Because comics are absolute bottom-of-the-barrel garbage for babies and illiterate manchildren, while graphic novels (neouvélles graphique) are high-brow art for sophisticated people.

>I don't want to buy hardcovers.
why? Do you want to come off as a pleb in /shelf/?

No, I just don't want to pay more for the exact same content.

Plus he is publishing with Boom now and they overcharge for their books anyway so it's like getting two ass rammings instead of one

Since we're on the topic, when given the choice of HC and paperback. which do you usually choose?

Well at least this time you didn't call them "BD" (bandes dessineés) like the jerk from a few weeks ago.

I didn't know about that phrase but I will use it from now on, thanks.

>Boom: When You Buy Our Books Prepare Your Ass!
it depends on the book, big two stuff, if it's just some X-men and nothing really special to me just something I like to read, then just the softcovers usually. But if it's a nice collection and something kinda more special to me then I want to HC if it's bound nice. Not a fan of the way the Sunstone HC's look so I stuck with the TPBs. But I fucked myself by going for the HC's of Manara's Bandes Dessineés since they are OOP

Depends, but at first I was like "hell yeah hardcovers" when I wanted to get some omnibuses, but I've found thick paperbacks to be better to handle and readable in general. So here's how it goes for me:
Omnibuses (in case there's no other way to buy them) > oversized paperbacks > regular paperbacks > hardcovers
Because that's the other thing: hardcovers with only 5-6 issues are the worst. One of the reasons why I keep holding on to see if DC is ever going to print Morrison's Green Lantern in a format that isn't 6-issue hardcovers.

Plus you can always take the softcovers you like and bind them into hardcovers like I'm going to do with my Epics one day...

Depends on which has less gutter loss.

Nice plastic man

Well it depends on a lot of stuff, if I really like the art I go for oversized HC if not best bang for the buck.

Meant to but I'm an idiot

>oh man, that's like 50 issues of Ron Marz Silver Surfer
Mucho jealous

IDW's Black Crown imprint has been shut down. One book, "Eve Stranger," will have it's final two issues released in trade.

Unrelated, Chapters/Indigo has a 40% off sale on Image titles, plus bonus plum rewards until the end of the week.

huh....I was avoiding a couple books cause I know the bindings are shit and the pages fall out. But that might be fixable then (and maybe i could find it cheep then). thanks for reminding me about that idea

Honestly bande desinee it's the French term for comics, same with Manga, fumetti, historietas, cuadrinhos, etc. It's not a high brow term that people uses like graphic novel

I know, but there was some dude who hogged a good portion of a previous /shelf/ thread ragging on people who didn't know what "BD" meant, as if it was general knowledge. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else started calling eurocomics like that to try and act special.

it's a pretty common word on Yea Forums, but I guess everyone has to learn at some point.

Am I the only one that dropped Mind MGMT, despite it being my sort of comic? The story is very interesting, the margins and the psychic mayhem is great stuff, but the characters and the art are not very convincing (outside of page composition).

I didn't like Gillen's Young Avengers and got bored with the Wicked + Divine. Will I like Die?

It's very different to those two, it's more like D&D Jumanji kinda story, except with grown-ups who were once trapped in the game, and now have to go back to rescue one of their own. The amount of thought and detail put into it is very admirable, so if you're into RPGs (the pen and paper kind), you'll get a kick out of this. Plus, Stephanie Hans' art is magnificent in this.
Try the first issue and see where that takes you.

Want to get into Legion but the omnibuses are just too big and bulky for me, especially if I want to take them with me out of the house to read.

Are the Legion Archives worth picking up? Or should I just wait for the softcover TPBs to come out?

The archives are worth buying, but just note that certain volumes (mainly the first two Shooter volumes (the first of which also collects the original Computo arc) and the last two archives) go for $200-300 a piece.

Somewhere Didio's crying his eyes out.
I think everyone expected this to happen.

me too

The omnibuses are your best bet.

There are about 4-5 Archives which will cost you, as said, triple digits a piece. Cheaper and less of a wallet buster to buy the omnibuses, especially since the third volume comes out at the end of the year and most likely, we'll get the first Bronze age volume next year (and we only need two Bronze age omnibuses to catch up to the Superboy and the Legion HCs).

But if you are a casual, you can pick up the Showcase Presents volumes but just know, the last Showcase Present volume doesn't have the contents of the last two Archives so you'd still have to (in theory) pay out the ass for the last two archives).

Got these in the mail today.

These too, but unfortunately they got beat up in the mail, so I'm gonna send them back for replacements.

Cool, I'm going to get the two Ms Marvel Epic Collections soon, and I'm planning on picking that Eternals trade as well, although I'm also trying to see if I can find the second volume of Knauf's Eternals and a less pricey version of the Thor Eternals Saga.

We'll probably get a big wave of Eternals reissues next year thanks to the movie, so might just wanna wait it out a few more months.

Yeah true, at least these Gaiman's reprints are still fresh so no chance they'll sold out again. Really hoping they reprint Kirby's and (pipedream) Gillis' 12-issue run.

Gaiman's Eternals isn't good

Feige was going on about how the Eternals movie is TOTALLY JACK KIRBY GUYS XD at Comic-Con, so I'd honestly be more surprised than not if we don't see an omni or some Epics of the original '70s run.

I'm a completist and Eternals is already an obscure series (despite showing up all over 80's Avengers). I prefer Kirby and Knauf's runs.

Nooooooooooooooooo

bump

I was actually looking forward to this one.

I'm surprised Matt Kindt didn't work on Harbinger and instead worked on X-O Man O War for Valiant. He could've written a really good Harbinger run.

GOD

DAMN IT

Why didn't you preorder it?

I found the first half of Unnatural pretty compelling, but I felt like it kind of let the air out of its tires by filling the last book with so much exposition and backstory.

Campbell barely draws the book though and the leonardo spin off book he drew was excellent.

fuck preordering shit DC will cancel anyway. I don't want my money tied up on stuff that won't see the light of day. At least with Kckstarter you can track it and know what is likely to get funded. Why the hell does DC need to "crowd fund" their books anyways?

Because they have to answer to WB who have to answer to AT&T.
