>successful animated movie >gets a TV show spinoff >show introduces a lot of stuff >movie gets a sequel >completely ignores the show
>successful animated TV show >gets a theatrical movie >vastly different than the show and ignores most of it >sometimes the show changes to synergize with the changed movie >the changed movie gets a theatrical sequel >ignores the synergized TV show
Why is there such a huge disconnect between shows and theatrical movies in Yea Forums media? I almost can't think of any examples where the two are consistent and build on one another.
I can probably think of some but what are your examples?

This assumes that the audiences are able and willing to watch both in order to appreciate the crossovers between them. This is not always the case for a variety of reasons, for example, the disparity between distribution and access to network TV and theatrical releases.
>Unikitty >Hotel Transylvania >Tangled >Big Hero 6 >all of Disney's classic movies >technically MCU with the Netflix shows and Agents of SHIELD
Owen Carter
Technically The Simpsons movie ignored some stuff from the show, but the show itself lacks consistency so eh
Josiah Howard
Tangled didn't get a sequel. There was wiggle room to fit everything in canon
Liam Morris
With the Simpsons Movie, that was explicitly due to shitty executives wanting people who never even watched Simpsons to get their asses in the seats. So anything that could potentially alienate a new viewer was taken out, like Reiner Wolfcastle just being renamed into Arnold.
Jonathan Ward
>animated show gets theatrical movie >usual voice cast replaced by meme famous actors
They didn't do the same with the Looney Tunes in their movies, why change it for Scooby Doo?
Mason Bell
The Unikitty TV cartoon is itself a TV cartoon in the world of The Lego Movie which is in a child's imagination. The fact that the sequel went out of their way to include two references to the Unikitty show, something pretty removed from primary canon, was a very nice touch.
Kayden Allen
Fun fact: the voice actors for Space Jam were kicked out of the Hollywood premiere after being told it was for the stars of the movie.
Dylan Adams
>show and movie have perfect synergy and consistency Even the episode that aired after the movie was about dealing with the consequences of the movie
