It was a lot of fun back in the early 00s but at some point it started taking itself too seriously and become overmoderated. Trying to hard to distance itself from its own autism when that autism was what made it fun in the first place. Much like this site, now that I'm thinking about it.

The early 10s were a magical time. People used to unironically enjoy things and didn't take themselves so seriously all the time.

The 2016 US election drove everyone insane. Truth no longer mattered. Everyone on all and every side started to believe that all that matters is propaganda. The side with the most advertisements would win every time. A complete denial of the human capacity to reason.

Main pages are fun to read, but stay the fuck off the forums. Troper Tales stopped being a thing years ago, so the site's definitely less cringy than it was when that was a thing.

We live in a tv tropes generation. This site has ruined fandom discourse forever.

Because if there was anything that follows any kind of trope at all, people don't want it. They don't want it no more. "Its too tropey therefore its not reinventing the genre or deconstructing it and therefore its not smart and therefore we hate it". Its part of why even films now like obsessing over "deconstructing this" or "avoiding this trope or that trope" rather than being good.

If people cared about tropes and cliches that much, superhero movies wouldn't have dominated this decade and bland shit like Big Bang Theory and Two and Half Men wouldn't have lasted for 12 seasons each

It's just a weird geek thing. Sometimes I go there when I don't understand a character's likability or motivations.
