Donte saying "fuck you" came across like a twelve-year-old trying to act tough by swearing. Nero saying "fuck you" to his father trying to casually dismiss him makes sense in context, and it continues through the fight.

Story is edgy and juvenile without any self awareness, characters are unlikeable dickheads.

Even if you ignore the "not my DMC", it still has terrible characters, story and dialog; the combat is just serviceable when 3 and 4 had different styles and even Nero had his own gimmick and Vergil's Downfall is a complete joke.
It also had the worst Devil Trigger in the franchise in design and gameplay.
