There's no problem with Batman courting Catwoman. What makes the pairing awful in King's run is that Batman come off as extremely insecure and needy to the point of creeply treating Catwoman as the fix-all of all his life problems, as if he had her in his life everything would be swell and he wouldn't have to cut his wrists.

King came in hot off of the Vision comic and did Omega Men and his Green Lantern tie-in to Darkseid War were among the best comics at the time. Bendis was a big name that DC was just yanking from Marvel because they were aggressively trying to outdo Marvel in everything they did. Snyder, regardless of how you feel about his comics, has been putting out top selling comics for DC.

The sad thing is, his idea wasn't bad and very in-character for Ra's to raise his daughter as a soldier and Damian's backstory could make sense without character assassinating Talia. Maybe someday, Talia would finally go back to her anti-hero origins.
