what the fuck happened to their full TV series? they keep pulling this shit again and again

they are musicians trying to cross over into full on cartoonists. Of course they are gonna stumble.

that's a nice noodle butt

There's been a surge in activity from Gorillaz & co. on social media so there's probably gonna be a new Album in 2020

I mean that's a gross simplification. Jamie isn't a musician, he's a cartoonist, but not an animator.
I get the feeling either they're unfortunate enough to end up low priority enough to be dismissed by whoever whatever Label they're owned by drags their feet on whatever project they want. Or they've a chronic case of biting off more than they can chew and end up taking on projects that they can never see through in a timely fashion. I mean fuck this is an ad that took this long to come out. You'd think they'd been pressed to get this out in a more timely fashion by G-shock.
I guess, I don't know how I'd feel about them rushing out another album. NowNow was okay but not very memorable.

>they are musicians trying to cross over into full on cartoonists
bruh this has been going on since demon days

its freaking ridiculous

I see butt. I sniff butt

I want more noodle butt

butts are gross

It's not his first rodeo, he literally had to animate the beginning, middle, and end of Tank Girl when the studio pulled their budget.

Not to mention the fucking Beijing Olympic animation. How many high-profile jobs do you have to do before you're an "animator"?

This reminds me, even weirder, why is there no Gorillaz comic?
It would be a lot easier and cheaper than a cartoon.

Yeah that was dumb of me,even ignoring that, they've been at it for 20 years now and I don't think they've had a single phase that didn't end with them cancelling major portions by the end for whatever reason.

I'd imagine animation is a big part of it for them.
They're supposed to be cartoon celebrities, so the idea is either they're "actual people" making music videos or out in the real world. A comic doesn't quite capture that.

you posting the storyboards/animatics with them showing tons of character seems to disprove that

usually they say budget, but I thought the reason they did all that ad shilling was so they could afford a series

these are great. what are you talking about?

no kidding, Imagine a comic version of the whole gorillaz storyline presented in a cohesive manner.

I'd kiill for it.

I seem to recall that Jamie Hewlett said he'd never make another comic, as they were too taxing to make. Since he's "The Gorillaz Guy", he'd likely never let someone else do it

I actually think it comes to Albarn and Hewlett being perfectionists. I have the gorillaz book floating about somewhere, and the main reason a movie wasn't made during their heyday is because they couldn't come up with a script they liked. A gorillaz origin story would have been great, a movie about them going on tour styled like a mocumentary also great, perhaps a movie that's a making of an album; the album being the soundtrack to the movie. Ideas come easy, but all these ideas are likely not surreal or ground breaking enough for albarn and hewlett.

judging from their track record, even with a script it would never have been finished

and as for jamie not drawing the comic, you'd have to pick a damn good replacement. some of those tank girl issues drawn by different people just feel wrong

Oh I don't doubt you there, there's a reason he became The Gorillaz Guy in the first place, his style is so distinctive, he's still one of my favourite artists

I remember trying to find porn in that style

i thought that power puff villian replaced murdoc?
