i would like a character sort of like Banshee and Blue Marvel. Marvel has been shitting out Teen Heroes like it's Diarrhea Day at Applebees so I'd like to see an older character who has always had characters but just been a Z-lister or something attempt to make his or her way onto the mainstage. Or maybe just some 40 year old boomer with a late activated X-Gene. Some kind of old novice. Something in that ballpark. Write Whoopi Goldberg getter her groove back. Something. I don't know desu

I think The Sentry was the only time it was ever good, and ONLY if you count the original limited series. As soon as they brought him back they fucked it up forever.

Anyone else remember being extremely hyped at the news that Superman(Sentry) had always existed in the Marvel universe and he was Hulk best friend and Spider-Man idol?

What is a "retcon hero"?

> a Z-lister or something attempt to make his or her way onto the mainstage
Isn't this happening in Runaways with that Doc Justice guy?

A superhero who was introduced via retcons to existing lore.

That does not really sound that bad.

It's not unless you're an autist obsessed with continuity.

trash, I hate Sentry, Blue Marvel, Jessica Jones, etc.

when it's done in an amusing way I don't have a problem. like in alias, the whole jessica jones went to high school with peter parker, and was briefly an avenger in the 80s. I thought that was amusing, so I have no problem.

Then Marvel decided to make him into a mopey drunk fuckup and never looked back. He has been horrible in every appearance ever since.

By default it isn't. It just happens that they're usually awful. Sentry is one of the worst characters in Marvel history. He sat out the World War Hulk event until the very last minute because his agoraphobia conveniently stopped. He wasn't even panicking, he just stood there and told Iron Man "sorry lol."

It does not sound like it even really has anything to do with continuity.
It's entirely possible for them to exist without showing up at every single event.

Behold, the last page that ever should have depicted The Sentry outside of a photo or flashback.

yeah i was very fond of triumph

It works once and then gets old quick.

I like Sentry as a concept, but hate literally all they've done with him outside of his original mini. That he's literally not-Superman is proof the Hypercrisis is real.

As long as you fill them and don't insert them in it can work.

This. She's a nice gal.

And I ended up liking Sentry after Lemire's mini where he merges with The Void. I also like Blue Marvel a fair bit.

Yeah, but if a story point is "Sentry was an important member of the Avengers and was Hulk's best friend" and he's never before appeared in and Avengers or Hulk story it's a retcon

man I never read No Surrender or No Road Home but this thread is making me want to. I love comic books about comic books

read flex mentallo?

Not yet, it's on the backburner (which has become football field sized)

The insertion is the fun part desu. Look at how they redrew classic Marvel events with Sentry and Voyager in the background

Sentry is a reality warper who changed history so that he was an Avenger and Hulk's BFF and whatnot.

Marvel isn't saying he actually was there all along. It's not an official retcon. It's Bob Reynolds's fantasy that he made reality through his reality warping powers.

Am I smoking crack here? Is this not...obvious? Is this not what everyone else thinks?

I prefer Sentry to Hyperion. Hyperion has zero creativity and is mostly a 1:1 of Superman. Sentry is at least different enough to be his own character.

It's not impossible but it's fan theory in the same league as Franklin being the reason for the sliding time scale. Plus Sentry's powers didn't that crazy until Bendis.

How is it that crazy? We know there's reality warpers. He's just a reality warper that doesn't realize he is one, and he's crazy to boot. It explains everything about the Sentry - his powers, his background, the Void, etc.

I'm mostly sad that Marvel didn't print some $1 Voyager reprints during the event.

I honestly recommend you move it up to your backlog top, if anything because it's very much readable in a single sitting.

i should read doom patrol first right? to make the most out of the experience?

also for the love of god try to either track down the floppies or download the edition with the original colors

not really needed, you should read both because they're peak Morrison but just read Flex first, him and DP Flex are barely related and Doom Patrol is a very lenghty read, not only because it's a medium-to-big run, but also because every edition is kinda dense in itself (though to be honest, so is Flex, but the symbology and references are a bonus that can researched upon rereads and don't really detract from the experience if you miss them).

thanks for the tips user

It's always some asshole trying to make their snowflake O.C important to the mythos without much character building or actual work. It's lazy, comes off as hollow and should not be rewarded.

Jessica Jones is a particularly awful case in point.

Jessica Jones is one of the few characters created in the last 20 years that's actually worth a damn

She was just Bendis' self insert so he could fuck Luke Cage on paper. Name something she's done that's of note or any worth

Kek

Can Sentry, Voyager, and Blue Marvel defeat Knull?

Other than mastubating to Torch and stripping for Purple Man, I'm drawing a blank.

Remember that Slott sound wave guy who fought Peter in high school?

yeah, Clash. that Learning to Crawl mini wasn't bad tbu

I'll do you one better: Franklin created the Sentry as a more mature version of another being he'd manifested before, the Tattletale. Think about it, he's his father's best friend, an inspiration to all of his most admired heroes, the solution to the Hulk problem, in short, everything Franklin would want in a hero, in his childish mind.
