It's not just that. Around Jem she really was becoming a parody of her own style. It was kinda shit. It seems around her Universe story she really learned to dial back the cute shit. So hopefully she's figured out how to balance it.

I always liked Campbell's fancomic and designs. Honestly, that Mona Lisa update is fantastic. More like an actual lizard than the cartoon version, emphasizing the "college student" angle, and fitting in visually with the IDW aesthetic. Just perfect for the character in this setting.

This cover is great, and that Mona is clearly based on Campbell's fan redesign to some degree, but the art is Weaver, not Campbell. So I don't think this reflects on her current style. Though if she did the final design for Mona, than she nailed it for all the reasons you said.

Not at all. He started to go a bit native with the Foot, causing the Turtles to split and form Clan Hamato. They still talk. They still celebrate Christmas. It's strained though. The one shot where he and Mikey argued and.them fought was PHENOMENAL. They just convinced him to cede his position in the Foot and them everything went nuts.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Okay, so basically Splinter took over the Foot Clan - he'd killed Shredder so it was his by right, and he had been Foot once himself, so he thought this was his chance to redeem the Clan. And initially all of turtles were in favor of it except Mikey. Well he did some questionable shit because he saw himself as needing to protect his sons, and the clan. The turtles started distancing themselves from him. And then he had a bit of a "dammit, I'm distancing myself from my family" revelation and tried to give the Clan to Shredder's granddaughter peacefully, hoping for a nice happy ending where the Clan is not longer evil and he can be with his sons.

The current arc is the whole situation blowing up in his face, because Shredder's daughter is (1) a psycho at the best of times (2) under the influence of a demonic sword.

Yeah, like I said, he started to go a bit brutal and medieval Japan. In this version he's reincarnated medieval Hamato Yoshi. He hadn't crossed any lines he could never take back, bit leaving would clearly be the beast thing for him to preserve who he had become, especially who he had become for his sons.

Like I said, Universe was her first writing credit. I did forget about the short, but I'm not going to act like she altered the character with this one line. People act like she derailed Alopex early on, but she's really done nearly nothing with the character.

It was bound to happen, they were early S1 villains, though it was funny to see how fucked up Bradford's life became, while Fishface got to run away in the end he died twice and is now burning in hell.

But they went from a threat the turtles couldn't take on even together to just losing in literally an episode. It was pretty lame. If there was a few episodes dedicated to the Turtles overcoming them then them losing all the time would be fine. But man it was just a switch.

As far as I see it, this man is going to tarnish the entire IDW TMNT run. Sure it had some lousy arcs like Chasing Phantoms, but this man has zero right to be writing anything. He's very bad at it. Bringing back Mona Lisa isn't going to mean jack shit if the writing for why Mona is back is lousy. And frankly seeing that random new child turtle character? We're not even done establishing any kind of role for Jennika and other characters have no purpose like Angel and Alopex and they're adding MORE turtles? This is a bad sign. One of the biggest flaws this comic run has endured is a bloated cast and they're adding more newer characters like Mona Lisa and this random kid turtle? To me the comic doesn't even feel like it's about the titular main characters anymore. It's about every writer either trying to justify their favorite side character or INVENTING random new characters.

I don't even enjoy this anymore, it's just a chore to read through this stuff doesn't help that City at War is basically a longer version of Triceraton Invasion with a very forced rushed fell all over type of story with no breathing room. Making Campbell Head Writer immediately after this doesn't scream good news either. IDW TMNT has become a complete mess.

Hob now understands how to make his own animal army so expect even MORE extra superfluous characters showing up with half-assed development. Wouldn't surprise me if Mona Lisa in this series is part of the new mutants that Hob has created for his army. After all Hob needs intelligent mutants who are tech-heads and he's not going to rely on Lindsey forever because she's a human.

It's been unremarkable for a while. Pretty much everything since issue 75-ish feels like them just treading water until whatever they have planned for #100. But I wouldn't call it "shit".

But it definitely SHOULDN'T end with them becoming friends, because I feel like Bebop and Rocksteady need to be portrayed as too stupid to realize how well they would get along. They need to resent Tokka and Rahzar for being smarter, more deliberate, and purposefully crafty than themselves, despite the fact that they are just babies.

Basically I felt it wasn't a good use of the old character's name. And I didn't like that Raph just didn't bother to learn her real name, or come up with a Nickname that even slightly sounded like it. And I thought their relationship went from 0 to 100 way too fast, particularly since she appeared like three times total. And I didn't like that she wasn't even in his thoughts during the final eps.

There was the germ of a good idea with her, but I thought she was mishandled in more ways than just not being a good use of the "Mona Lisa" name.

Humans turned into animal mutants simply feel fake. They have identities and fully remember who they actually are. So it would be complete garbage that they willingly drop their identities simply to embrace their new mutated forms.

Animal mutants on the other hand have no identity because previously they were feral animals fueled by instinct. So once mutated it's the first time their personalities are developed. Even Hob made a mention about there being a big difference between human mutants and animal mutants. Putting it simply a human mutated into the form of an animal doesn't have the same understanding for the plight of mutant animals. So any human pretending to understand the struggle that the animal mutants are going through is faking it.

And for this reason this new Mona Lisa is garbage. Hope she's killed off.
